Gacha Leveling
Chapter 178 - 39 – The Laufgraan War 14
Farynn looked a lot like his brother Farzan. He had short silver hair and the same green eyes. He was as tall as his brother. He was wearing armor made of red shiny dragon scales. He had a short sword on his hip and a silver bow was resting against his throne.
"Come out, Shadow Death." Farynn said in Elven with a bored tone.
Faynn obliged, getting out of the shadows with a nervous smile.
"The other one too." The elven female said with a teasing smile.
"You’re always insufferable Karynn." Faynn said, while Matthew got out of the shadows.
Karynn was wearing a black priestly robe with silver stripes and a big light blue flame symbol on her chest. She also carried a staff with a black lantern on the top. She had long dark blond hair and green silver eyes.
"Oh, it’s a human." The woman noted when looking at Matthew.
"It’s Lady Faralynn’s lover." The elven man explained.
"I see. The thorn in my shoes." Farynn smiled, speaking in English now.. "You made everything more difficult." He said, getting up and approaching Faynn and Matthew. "Have you come to kill me? Has my brother finally resorted to assassination?"
"He’d never do such a thing." Faynn protested.
"We’re here to capture you." Matthew added.
"Bold." Farynn chuckled, walking back to his throne.
"Why don’t you just surrender, my lord?" Faynn asked. "You know you can’t win."
Farynn laughed out loud.
"Shadow Death... You went soft working under my brother."
Matthew got curious about that name, but decided it was no time to ask her about it.
"Kazan." Farynn said to the elven man who was standing on the side of his throne. "Kill them."
Kazan was wearing thick metal armor with a blue hue and held a simple sword. He had a red cloak around his neck, extending all the way to the floor. His eyes were the same green silver as Karynn, but his hair was light brown and short.
The elven knight stepped forward slowly and drew his sword.
"Are you really going to fight alone?" Faynn asked Kazan, taking steps back as he approached.
"I’m enough to fight you both." He said.
Matthew drew his swords from his Inventory and stepped forward.
"Careful, Matt." Faynn warned him. "He’s Firynn’s master."
Matthew used his Identify skill on the trio. Farynn was level 55, Kazynn was level 32, but Kazan was level 83.
That meant he was as powerful as the Earth Dragon.
"Did the human train with my disciple?" Kazan asked.
"I did." Matthew said. "But not for very long."
"Let’s see." The elf said charging forward and slashing at Matthew.
Matthew defended himself with Aym’s dagger and tried to counter attack with Belial’s blade, but was forced to defend himself again.
"Good instincts." The elf praised and kicked Matthew on the stomach, sending him flying towards a wall.
Faynn charged from the shadows, but Karynn warned Kazan that she was coming for his right side and he simply defended her attack with ease.
In the next movement, he punched her, making her stumble back in pain.
"Stop playing." Farynn admonished Kazan. "They are not your students, they are my enemies. Kill them."
Kazan sighed.
"Yes my lord." His voice was somber, clearly uncomfortable with the order.
It’s when he was distracted with Farynn that Matthew charged forward clad in miasma and used his Reckless Agility to increase his speed.
Kazan just managed to raise his sword to defend himself, but Belial’s dark blade was unnaturally sharp. His simple sword was cut in half and Matthew lodged his blade in the elf’s blue armor, opening a dent on his side and taking a slither of blood.
Kazan punched Matthew away and stepped back surprised. Then he felt his side burning and noticed the blue flames covering Matthew’s sword.
Faynn didn’t give him time to rest, she pressed on her attack forcing him to dodge her strikes. When he had the opportunity, he grabbed her arms and threw her against Matthew who stepped forward to help her.
"Daughter. I need some aid." He said looking at Karynn.
The elven priest just waved her hand and a gold light undid the unholy fire burning her father.
"What sword is that?" Farynn asked, impressed by what it did.
"I have no idea. Never seen something like that." Karynn said.
Kazan threw away his sword and raised his fists.
"Is that a technology from the human world?" Farynn asked.
"It doesn’t seem so. It looks more like shadow magic." The elven priest said.
"I want that sword." Farynn smiled.
"Yes my lord." Karynn replied and cast a bless spell on Matthew to prevent him from using unholy mana again. "Ufa, bring his sword."
Kazan looked at Karynn with a painful look.
"As you wish." He said.
"Use my sword." Farynn ordered, throwing his own sword towards Kazan.
"Thank you my lord." Kazan said, unsheathing the blade.
Faynn got closer to Matthew and whispered, while the trio was talking.
"We need to run away. We can’t defeat Kazan."
"I noticed." Matthew took a deep breath.
Kazan walked forward slowly wielding Farynn’s short gold sword now.
Faynn then threw two flashbang grenades on the floor.
The elves had never seen such artifacts and took a step back watching them closely, waiting confused as to why she threw the 2 at the floor and not against them.
The loud sound and light blinded them for a moment, enough for Matthew and Faynn to turn into shadows and run away.
"They’re running away!" Karynn shouted.
"Let them." Kazan protested.
"No." Farynn interjected, rubbing his eyes. "Go after them."
"Yes, my lord." Kazan sighed and ran out of the court into the courtyard relying on his mana sensitivity to find Matthew, since his eyes were still seeing colors.
Matthew rushed blindly through the castle trying to find a high place so that he could let Ffyr out of his necklace and fly away with her.
But Kazan was too fast, soon he was onto Matthew and, when his vision went back to normal, he caught Matthew in shadow form and forcibly pulled him out.
Only magic could hurt them in shadow form, meaning that Kazan’s armor was magic, since he could touch Matthew with his gauntlet.
They were atop of the eastern wall that led to a cliff by the shore.
Kazan pinned Matthew against a merlon scaring the sentinels around who had no idea he was there.
"I don’t want to kill you, human." Kazan whispered to Matthew. "But honor bounds me to obey my lord."
"Why do you serve him?" Matthew asked while thinking of a way to flee.
"Because my daughter swore allegiance to him." Kazan was succinct.
Matthew moved his hand planning to stab Kazan while he was distracted, but was stopped before he could bring out his sword.
"Don’t. Give me your sword, the black one, and I’ll let you go." Kazan bargained with Matthew. "You already failed your mission, get out of here alive."
Matthew remembered what happened to Vine when he tried to wield Belial’s blade. Then he agreed.
"Ok. Let me go." Matthew dropped the sword on the floor that eerily made no sound when hitting the stones.
He prepared an attack, waiting for the sword to react the same way, but nothing happened when Kazan took the sword. And then he pushed Matthew out of the wall onto the sea below. 𝐟𝚛𝕖𝚎𝕨𝗲𝐛𝚗𝐨𝐯𝐞𝕝.𝐜𝗼𝗺
Matthew took a dive and looked up as the sentinels walked around pretending nothing happened.
"We failed?" Ffyr asked him telepathically, still inside his necklace.
"Not yet. Faynn is still in there. Let’s hope she manages to trick them." Matthew answered.
"Cowards." Farynn scoffed after Kazan ran outside after Matthew and Faynn.
"You can’t really blame them." Karynn smiled at her lord.
"How are things on the wall?" He asked.
"Raglynn and Oifan are there. They engaged Farzan and Firynn. They’ll not allow the wall to fall today." She comforted him.
Farynn then got up and stretched. He grabbed his bow.
"I guess I should join the battle, then?"
"It’s dangerous, my lord." Karynn protested.
"Enough. I’ll not hide anymore." Farynn said walking outside.
Before any of them could react, the shadows around Farynn grew and moved like snakes surrounding his body. Suddenly, Faynn materialized, grabbing Farynn from behind and injecting the noble with a syringe while she used shadow tentacles to hold him still.
Karynn looked pale when she realized that Faynn was still there.
"How?" She asked with his mouth open.
Farynn struggled against his restraints, having a hard time to get free.
"Do you really think you could sense me?" Faynn smiled at Karynn.
The shadow tentacles came undone then as Farynn used his strength to get free.
"What did you do to me?" He asked with a slurred voice as if he was drunk.
"Just something to make you sleep." Faynn smiled. "Good night, my lord." she added with a threatening tone.
