Genius of the Rules-Style System
Chapter 93 - 88: So I Was Too Naive
"If Monkey goes, I’ll go!"
Zhao Yi didn’t know how to refuse, so he just diverted the decision to Sun Liang.
He instantly regretted it.
Lin Xiaoqing walked over and asked Sun Liang, "Monkey, if you and Zhao Yi come to my house, I’ll let you play on my computer. You can play games too!"
Zhao Yi continuously winked at Sun Liang.
Just as Sun Liang was about to refuse, he heard Lin Xiaoqing’s quiet addition, "Oh yeah, I’ll invite Gao Yuan."
"Ok!"
"Damn it!"
Zhao Yi couldn’t resist cursing, then promptly gave the finger.
With a flattering smile, Sun Liang spread his hands and said, "The conditions are too good. I can’t refuse."
"Females and no humanity!"
"Brothers are like clothes, women are like limbs!"
"Screw you!"
"I’m the youngest in my family..."
The only thing Zhao Yi could do was sulk alone, and think about having a serious talk with Gao Yuan about Sun Liang.
Such as, not bathing for weeks, wearing the same clothes for half a month.
Such as, flirting with the cashier girls at the internet café, or insisting on asking the price when he sees a short-skirted beauty on the street.
And then...
Ahem, truth or false isn’t important.
The Chinese exam is in the morning the next day.
Zhao Yi’s worst subject is Chinese. Since there is no definite answer to Chinese, after quickly completing the multiple-choice questions, he moves on to the discussion and essay questions.
After finishing all the scoring questions, he grapples with the reading comprehension and other problems.
His overall performance is average.
Although he filled in all the questions, and should get about 120 marks, it’s hard to say exactly how many marks he would get.
The afternoon is the Math exam.
Zhao Yi now confidently says that Math is his strong suit. Practicing a lot of questions has clearly improved his Math skills, even without using the system’s capabilities, he can roughly do most of the general problems.
Now, if he uses the "Causality Law" and the "Connection Law", he even dares to compare his grades with Sun Liang’s.
This is also thanks to his speed in solving problems.
"The Causality Law" and "Connection Law" can help him quickly complete the questions, and a few questions can also take advantage of both abilities to obtain the results and process through step-by-step derivation.
For many questions, directly getting the answer gives him enough time to grapple with the difficult ones. As for regular exams, let alone the College Entrance Examination (gaokao), the difficult problems are few, giving him more time to grapple than others.
For some questions that he truly can’t solve, with enough time, he can still attempt the steps and earn a few marks.
This time’s Math exam was not very difficult. The real challenge was the last question. Zhao Yi spent half his time on this question and only managed to solve the first two sub-questions.
But he still couldn’t figure out the last sub-question.
Regretful!
After the Math exam, Zhao Yi felt depressed for the first time. He originally had a chance to score full marks.
"Monkey, what answer did you choose for the last multiple-choice question?"
"Monkey, is the answer to the third fill-in-the-blank question the square root of three?"
"Monkey..."
Lin Xiaoqing kept looking at the questions and finally said with frustration, "The last question, I only managed one sub-question. I estimate my maximum score for Math won’t exceed 130."
She turned to Zhao Yi and asked, "How do you think you did?"
"Not bad!"
Zhao Yi hesitated before answering. He then quickly transferred the attention to Sun Liang and asked, "What about you?"
"I didn’t do well either." Sun Liang shook his head in frustration, "The process in the proof question was a bit lacking. The teacher grading the paper will definitely deduct a couple of marks."
"148?"
"More or less!"
Zhao Yi stared at Sun Liang and drew a deep breath. Just as he was about to kick him, he noticed a person standing at the door.
Gao Yuan?
He immediately raised his head and waved at the entrance, shouting loudly, "Gao Yuan, I have something to tell you."
"What is it? I’m here to see Xiaoqing."
Gao Yuan walked in somewhat uncomfortably. She was not a student of Class Three, so entering the Class Three classroom always felt a bit awkward.
"It’s like this."
Zhao Yi began his narration seriously, "Yesterday, Monkey and I were walking home, and there was a foot massage shop by the road. Not only was the door open, but it also had a red light on. Monkey insisted we go in and check it out. He even wanted to ask how much it was."
"I declined, but he dragged me in. He even offered to treat, but I firmly refused. So, he just ..."
Sun Liang suddenly reacted and denied it with a flushed face, "What are you talking about! I didn’t!"
"Yes, you did!"
"No, Gao Yuan, don’t listen to his nonsense."
"You were just telling me this morning that you spent sixty...."
"Stop making things up!"
Sun Liang rushed to cover Zhao Yi’s mouth in desperation.
Gao Yuan just watched with amusement, knowing that Zhao Yi was joking.
It was already stressful enough for Sun Liang!
Once Gao Yuan left the classroom, Zhao Yi, tipping his toes in a threatening manner, said, "Just so you know, Monkey, if you keep pretending with me, I’ll tattle on you every day!"
"Yes, I’m threatening you!"
Sun Liang, his eyes full of resentment, turned to Lin Xiaoqing, "Zhao Yi, he likes Sun Jiali!"
Lin Xiaoqing glanced at Zhao Yi, then said, "I knew that. Almost every senior high school student knows it."
"There’s something you definitely don’t know, he likes you now!"
"Screw off!"
Lin Xiaoqing made a raspberry sound, pouting in anger, "Stop joking around with me, Monkey, or I’ll tattle on you too!"
"You!"
"And you!"
Sun Liang glanced at Lin Xiaoqing then glanced at Zhao Yi, yelling with some frustration, "Ah~~~~~"
Lin Xiaoqing glared at Zhao Yi, "What are you looking at!"
"Humph!"
She snorted disdainfully and turned around, her face revealing a sweet smile.
...
The next day, science test.
The recent cramming had worked. He knew almost all the basic knowledge points of biology and chemistry. If he couldn’t recall some tricky knowledge points, it was normal.
Biology and chemistry were more straightforward than maths.
Most of the questions were fill-in-the-blanks or multiple choices which directly provided the answer without needing processes. If he didn’t know how to do a question, he simply didn’t know. But as for the ones he did know, he wouldn’t have to worry about whether he could score full marks. He could write out the answers and use the Causality Law to judge whether they were correct or not.
Physics was relatively more complicated.
The main focus of the physics questions was analysis. He had to be extremely careful while analyzing mechanics, electromagnetism, etc. Missing a point meant he wouldn’t get the question right and the subsequent thinking would all be wrong.
But thankfully, there was the Causality Law.
The effect of the Causality Law helped with physics analysis questions too. For instance, he would know how many forces he would need to analyze. He could also determine the final computed results and whether they were correct. Once he got the results, he could further perfect the process.
Zhao Yi’s principle was that for every question he attempted, he had to be sure to score full marks. Since he had ample time, he first wrote out the process on draft paper. Once he was sure there were no issues, he would then copy it onto the answer sheet.
Exam ended.
Zhao Yi felt he performed quite well, his mood instantly became refreshing.
Although the pressure for midterms wasn’t great and he was confident of scoring high, he was still unsure of how he would actually perform. After the science test, only the English test was left, and he had almost no worries about that.
In the afternoon, English.
Zhao Yi only took an hour to hand in his paper.
Once the exam ended, he could leave.
He found his bicycle in the bicycle shed and, looking at the classroom window on the third floor of the teaching building, the corner of his mouth unconsciously curled into a smile, "Beautiful Lin, I’m really sorry. I’ve been overusing my brain recently and I forgot about visiting your house."
"So, I’m leaving first!"
"Bye!"
"Oh yes, turn off the phone!"
Zhao Yi leisurely rode his bicycle, while taking out his mobile phone to ruthlessly turn it off. As he exited the school gate, he merrily hummed a tune, "There’s a girl called Xiaofang in the village, she’s ugly and robust..."
"Zhao Yi!"
A loud shout suddenly came from the side.
Zhao Yi turned his head and saw a police car parked on the side of the road. It was a high-end, cool-looking Hummer pickup. In front of the police car stood a middle-aged police officer with a broad face displaying an upright and capable appearance.
The middle-aged police officer walked over to him and gestured, asking, "You’re Zhao Yi, right?"
"Yes?"
Zhao Yi sounded uncertain.
"Get in the car!"
"Get in the car?" Zhao Yi took a jump back in surprise.
The middle-aged police officer nodded, "Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Lin Xiaoqing’s father, you can call me Uncle Lin. I heard from Xiaoqing that you guys were supposed to visit our house today. Just so happened that I’m off duty, so I thought of picking you guys up."
"Ah?"
Zhao Yi, with reluctance, made up an excuse, "I need to park my bicycle first...."
"It’s fine!"
Officer Lin lifted up the bicycle with one hand and placed it onto the back of his pickup truck. He then turned around to face Zhao Yi and smiled, "Zhao Yi, get in the car!"
Zhao Yi had a feeling of being arrested. He had no choice but to get into the car. Looking outside through the car window, he began to hum a prison song, "Iron doors and iron windows, iron...."
He thought that trust was a basic aspect of human relationships.
He had never expected....
That he was too naive!
