Genshin Impact: I’m The Envoy of Snezhnaya
Chapter 353: Was He Usually This Brave?
"Is the Fair Lady still within Mondstadt’s borders?"
After making up his mind, Bai Luo asked Sergei.
"Yes. The Fair Lady has always been here, but she doesn’t seem very willing to enter the city. Matters inside Mondstadt are either handled by Counselor Anastasia, or she sends us in to deal with them."
Sergei’s answer didn’t surprise Bai Luo.
Perhaps for ordinary Fatui members, Mondstadt was merely a small objective in their grand campaign.
But for the Fair Lady, this place was full of memories.
Unfortunately, those memories were not pleasant ones—they were painful.
"Take me to meet her. After all, this is technically her territory."
Now that Barbatos had been knocked out by his Anemo Archon’s Drunken Dream, he wouldn’t be causing trouble anytime soon. Bai Luo finally had some free time.
Since Sergei had come to find him on his own initiative, he certainly wouldn’t miss the opportunity to meet her.
After all... The Fair Lady had once been his superior.
"Yes!"
To Sergei, a meeting between two Harbingers was a tremendous event. It meant that the pace of conquering Mondstadt would likely accelerate.
Perhaps... this was the tragedy of small people.
They risked their lives to secure benefits for their superiors, only to realize that the goal they believed in was merely bait.
After putting on his mask, Bai Luo concealed his presence and left Mondstadt City with Sergei.
The masks worn by the Fatui actually had their own meaning.
However, even after becoming a Harbinger, no one had told Bai Luo whether that meaning was just something people made up—or if it truly existed.
It was said that once someone joined the Fatui, everything from their past and even their own identity became meaningless.
Thus, both their real names and their faces should be abandoned.
That was also one of the reasons Bai Luo promoted the use of code names within the Fatui.
After leaving Mondstadt with Sergei, Bai Luo noticed that his subordinate was heading in a direction very familiar to him—
Springvale.
"You’ve been staying in Springvale?"
Revealing himself again, Bai Luo asked.
"Yes. Springvale is just an ordinary village. Staying nearby makes it easier to transport supplies or other materials without attracting the attention of the Knights of Favonius."
"I see."
If Bai Luo had stayed in Springvale a few days longer earlier, he might have run into La Signora there.
Along the way, they didn’t encounter many unexpected events.
Patrolling Knights of Favonius cast wary glances at them, but since they were wearing diplomatic attire, the knights couldn’t take action against them. 𝘧𝑟𝑒𝑒𝘸𝘦𝘣𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝓁.𝘤𝘰𝓂
Instead, they simply gave them a "friendly" reminder that the wilderness was dangerous and that they should stay inside the city whenever possible.
Sergei seemed used to it. After briefly responding, they continued on their way.
However, before long, someone suddenly stood up from a roadside camp.
"Fatui? You’re a bit late today. Do you not realize how rude it is to make a noble waste his precious time waiting for you?"
The man pushed up the glasses on his nose. His arrogant expression made it seem as though he were looking at ants.
Bai Luo stared at him for a moment, then turned to Sergei beside him.
"Who’s this idiot? Do you know him?"
Before Sergei could answer, the man with the glasses became furious.
"Idiot? As expected of barbaric outsiders, you have absolutely no manners. In the past... behavior like yours would have gotten your tongue ripped out in public!"
He folded his arms across his chest and looked toward Sergei beside Bai Luo, who now appeared somewhat awkward.
His meaning was simple: he believed Sergei was the superior officer, and that Sergei should discipline Bai Luo for such disrespectful behavior from a subordinate.
Then—
Smack—
Bai Luo slapped him across the face without hesitation. Even the old-looking glasses on the man’s nose were sent flying far away.
"Does he not know who I am?"
Looking at the man overflowing with a sense of superiority, Bai Luo shook his hand in slight disgust and glanced at Sergei beside him.
After a moment of silence, Sergei answered in a low voice:
"He’s the representative sent by the Lawrence Clan, named Schubert Lawrence. At the moment, he’s responsible for coordinating with us."
"You dare hit me! You! And you as well! None of you will escape the accountability of the Lawrence Clan! Don’t forget who is supporting your operations in Mondstadt! Without the Lawrence Clan’s backing, you Fatui wouldn’t have any foothold in Mondstadt at all!"
Clutching his rapidly swelling cheek, the man showed no fear. Instead, with a twisted expression, he pointed at Bai Luo and rattled off a long stream of threats.
Bai Luo didn’t bother wasting words with him.
He brushed his hand across his waist, and a dagger appeared in his grip.
Slash—
Blood sprayed as the man’s finger was severed instantly.
You like pointing fingers at people? Then maybe you shouldn’t point anymore.
Stepping on the severed finger, Bai Luo ground it against the dirt a few times.
Then, looking at the man who was screaming in agony, he slapped him again.
The pain from the severed finger, combined with the blow to his face, finally overwhelmed him.
Under the force of the slap, the man spun around several times before collapsing to the ground with a thud, unconscious.
"Is this guy always this brave?"
Without even glancing at the fallen man, Bai Luo flicked the blood off his dagger in disgust and asked Sergei.
"The old nobles of Mondstadt are all like this. Since we planned to elevate him as the new ruler of Mondstadt later, we didn’t bother with him much to avoid disrupting The Fair Lady’s plan. Besides, having a clown like this jumping around in front of us was pretty entertaining."
The work of the Fatui was often dull and monotonous. Someone like him had provided them with quite a bit of amusement.
They just hadn’t expected that, after getting used to acting arrogant around them, he would dare behave the same way in front of a Harbinger.
He had it coming.
"Oh. I’ll explain it to La Signora myself. As for puppets... we can find as many as we want. At worst we just replace him, there’s more than one Lawrence in Mondstadt anyway."
After hearing Sergei’s explanation, Bai Luo roughly understood this man’s role in La Signora’s plan.
Simply put, once the Fatui took control of Mondstadt, they would push this man forward as the city’s new leader.
In other words, he would become a puppet controlled by the Fatui.
And puppets... should listen obediently to their masters.
"A Harbinger represents the dignity of the Fatui. For him to speak so arrogantly and behave so disrespectfully in front of one—if it were the Fair Lady, she would have executed him on the spot. So there’s no need for you to worry about it, Teacher."
In truth, even if Bai Luo hadn’t acted just now, Sergei would have stepped in to teach the man a lesson himself.
The plan was important, but the Fatui would never allow someone like that to trample on a Harbinger’s dignity.
After this small incident, Bai Luo finally arrived at the ruins Sergei had mentioned.
From the guards there, he learned that La Signora was indeed inside.
...So they would meet again at last.
Rosalyne.
