Chapter 24: Shadow Contract and the Cathedral’s Dusk

Lady Crimson stood perfectly still, her crimson-dyed hair casting a sharp shadow across her pale face under the red emergency lights of the penthouse. Her daggers were held loosely, but every muscle in her athletic, leather-clad frame was coiled like a spring. She was used to being the apex predator of the underbelly, but standing five feet away from Min-jae, she felt an invisible, atmospheric pressure that made it hard to draw a full breath.

Min-jae didn’t pull his black katana. He didn’t even shift his weight. He simply turned his head, his bottomless obsidian eyes locking onto her cat-like gaze with absolute indifference.

"Renegotiate?" Min-jae said, his voice smooth and dropping the temperature in the room by ten degrees. "You enter my home with blades in your hands after sending your rats to sabotage my power matrix, and you think you have the leverage to negotiate?"

Yoo Ji-a stepped up instantly, her Void-Valkyrie’s Crescent Fang snap-pointing straight at Lady Crimson’s throat, the light-devouring obsidian blade hissing with dangerous void static. "Give me the word, Min-jae. I’ll peel the skin off this shadow cat before she can blink."

Lady Crimson didn’t flinch from Ji-a’s spear, but her crimson eyes remained fixed entirely on Min-jae. A sharp, high-stakes smile touched her lips. "I know I don’t have leverage, Monarch. That’s why I’m not offering a trade. I’m offering a total asset liquidation. My syndicate has secret safehouses packed with high-tier skill books in every district. I control the information grid of the remaining five major survival zones in the country. Kill me, and you just get a pile of ash. Let me live, and the entire underground network becomes your personal spy glass."

Min-jae scanned her face, his system cheat effortlessly overriding her stealth parameters to reveal her underlying metrics.

[Scanning Target: Park Ha-eun / Lady Crimson (Age: 20)]

[Current Loyalty/Trust Metric: 40% (Terrified / Deeply Intrigued by Absolute Dominance)]

[Innate Talent: Phantom Void-Stalker (Rank S)]

[Hidden Evolution Path Found for Target!]

[Evolving to Rank-SSS: ’Goddess of the Abyssal Eclipse’ (Requires 30,000 Mana Crystals).]

A baseline 40% trust from a cold-blooded assassin boss was exactly what he expected. She wasn’t acting out of sudden affection; she was a pragmatist who worshipped absolute power. To a corporate fixer like Min-jae, a transactional villain who knew her place was far more useful than a generic hero who whined about morality.

"I don’t negotiate contracts with people who can run away," Min-jae said, stepping into her personal space. He reached out, his strong fingers wrapping firmly around her chin, tilting her face upward. The physical proximity caused Lady Crimson’s breath to catch, her heart pounding violently against her tight leather corset as she felt the suffocating, god-like aura radiating from him. "If you want to live, you sign a soul-bound subordination contract. Your network, your daggers, and your life belong to my team. Break it, and your soul core disintegrates instantly."

[Ding! Target ’Park Ha-eun’ has received a Soul-Bound Faction Subordination Offer.]

Lady Crimson stared into his bottomless black eyes, a thrill of dark excitement running down her spine. In this broken new world, following an invincible king was the ultimate survival metric.

"I accept... Monarch," she whispered, a sultry, submissive smile breaking across her face.

Crack.!

A crimson-and-black system seal manifested between their chests before dissolving into her heart. Her interface updated instantly, locking her into Min-jae’s team grid.

[Ding! Subordinate ’Park Ha-eun’ has officially joined your team!]

[Team Synergy Bonus Applied: You have secured the Capital’s Shadow Network!]

"Ji-a, watch the tower with Ye-rin," Min-jae commanded, letting go of Ha-eun’s chin as he turned toward the open observation deck. "Seo-yoon, Ha-eun. We have a bleeding priest to execute."

"Yes, sir," Ha-eun purred, her daggers vanishing into her inventory as she stepped closely behind his left flank, her crimson hair catching the wind.

Min-jae raised his right hand, the purple spatial mana swirling around his palm with volatile friction. "Spatial Void Phase."

Space fractured like glass. In less than a fraction of a millisecond, the three of them vanished from the 100th-floor deck, leaving behind a localized vacuum pop.

Two miles north, the northern cathedral square was a scene of unadulterated chaos.

High Priest Samuel lay cratered in the center of the shattered marble plaza, his white holy robes completely soaked in his own dark blood. The 90,000 points of reflected True Damage had torn his inner mana circuits to shreds. He was gasping for air, his trembling fingers clutching a cracked, golden divine cross trying to channel a basic healing spell.

Surrounding him, over five hundred fanatical cultists were screaming in panic, their automatic rifles and low-tier staves shaking as they looked up at the sky.

Voomm.!

A sudden, violent purple rift tore through the air directly above the marble altar. Min-jae stepped out of the spatial fold, landing smoothly on his boots, his hands casually stuffed inside his cargo pockets. Seo-yoon stepped to his right, her voluptuous frame leaning forward as she raised the glowing Stellar Void Annihilator, while Ha-eun glided out of his shadow on his left, her twin obsidian daggers humming.

"T-The heretic!" a high-level cultist knight screamed, pointing his heavy broadsword at Min-jae. "Protect the High Priest! Slay the —!"

Before he could even complete his battle cry, Min-jae didn’t even move a muscle. Ten cultist marksmen panicked and opened fire simultaneously, spraying a barrage of mana-infused bullets straight at Min-jae’s forehead.

[Ding! Received 1,500 points of physical damage. Negated.]

[Vajra Retribution Triggered: Reflecting 2,250 points of True Damage to the marksmen!]

Boom.!

A seamless, invisible counter-shockwave exploded from Min-jae’s skin. The ten marksmen didn’t even see the blast before their chest plates and rib cages collapsed inward with a gruesome spray of blood, their bodies flying thirty feet backward into the cathedral columns, completely dead upon impact.

"Monster..." Samuel gurgled from the crater, his gray hair matted with blood as he looked up at the pristine, untouched teenager walking slowly toward him. "The light... the light was supposed to purge you..."

Min-jae stopped at the edge of the crater, looking down at the dying cult leader with complete indifference.

"Your light was weak," Min-jae said smoothly. He turned his eyes toward the sky, where the bleeding crimson vortex was turning a deeper, darker shade of obsidian. "And in this new reality, I am the only law that matters."

He raised his foot, bringing his heavy combat boot down onto Samuel’s throat with a single, cold, and effortless movement, crushing the priest’s final point of health.

[ You have eliminated the Coalition Leader: High Priest Samuel (Level 25)!]

[Gained 8,000 EXP! You have leveled up! You are now Level 10!]

[Global Announcement Triggered: Player ’Min-jae’ has achieved Level 10! Unlocking the Global Faction Ranking and the First Regional World Gate!]

Before the remaining four hundred cultists could even flee, a deep, ominous vibration shook the entire city grid. The central marble altar of the cathedral suddenly cracked in half, a massive, towering black iron gateway rising from the ground, covered in glowing ancient runes that spelled out a single, terrifying phrase: [World Gate 01: The Abyssal Domain].

Min-jae looked up at the newly manifested gate, his bottomless obsidian eyes flashing with intense, calculated anticipation. The true phase of the Global Descent was finally starting.

He turned toward his stunning, highly evolved team members, his lips curving into a dark, ruthless expression. "The capital is ours. Prepare the Dread-Mechs. We’re going inside."
