Global Lords: The Undead's Mobile Fortress
Chapter 98 - 95: New Unit Type
As cart after cart of Corpse Remains was brought out, the number of Skeletons under Li Ziyu’s command increased rapidly.
The Corpse Remains didn’t need to be excavated, only hauled. With 50 to 70 Skeleton Undead, a single minecart could be filled in one trip. Roughly 2,000 Undead were enough to keep 30 minecarts supplied, ensuring a continuous stream of Corpse Remains was transported out.
But there were far more than just 2,000 Undead in the cave. Counting the ones Li Ziyu had newly created, the number of Skeleton Undead now totaled over 5,000. This meant more than 3,000 Undead were still using the old, inefficient method of carrying the Corpse Remains out in their arms.
Li Ziyu stroked his chin. ’I can’t let this labor force go to waste.’ With the minecarts transporting Corpse Remains at this rate, the Undead no longer needed to carry them by hand. It would be better to put them to work elsewhere.
"Xingxing, are there any mineral veins around here?" Li Ziyu suddenly asked.
At the question, Liu Xingxing quickly pulled up the system interface. After studying it for a moment, he shook his head in resignation. There were indeed mineral veins in the Wraith Mountain Range, but none near their cave. The closest was still quite a distance away.
’If there are no mineral veins, we’ll chop down trees. We can also hunt some of the Wild Beasts in the mountains to restock our food supply.’
’Food is a valuable commodity. Not only do I, Liu Xingxing, and the Catman need to eat, but it’s also excellent for trading for other resources.’ 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦
With this in mind, Li Ziyu no longer hesitated. He established a Resource Node: Lumber Camp not far from the cave.
Just like before, ten Undead marched over and transformed into a square building. Li Ziyu had already figured it out: these resource nodes were likely linked directly to his main hall. Any resources placed inside were instantly teleported back, which was incredibly convenient.
Once the Lumber Camp was constructed, several new items appeared in the system, largely similar to those from the ore collection point. There was the Woodcutter’s Axe, which could be crafted at a rate of five per unit of Skeleton; flatbed carts designed for hauling Wood; and bundling ropes, which required vines to be crafted.
Li Ziyu didn’t have any vines on hand, but that wasn’t a problem. The mountains were covered in them. He could just have the Undead gather some to begin crafting immediately. It wouldn’t be much trouble at all.
After using up a batch of Skeletons to craft several thousand Woodcutter’s Axes, the surplus Skeleton Undead were pulled from the cave. They grabbed the newly forged axes and marched into the mountain forests to begin logging.
Of course, if they happened to run into any Wild Beasts, they were to take them out as well. A little hunting never got in the way of logging. After all, an Undead that wasn’t willing to hunt Wild Beasts was no good Lumberjack.
Liu Xingxing’s eyes widened as he watched Li Ziyu’s sequence of commands. "Boss, even capitalists aren’t as ruthless as you! Sure, the Undead can’t speak, but you can’t just bully them because they’re mute!"
Hearing this, Li Ziyu turned to him and asked calmly, "What’s the creation cost for a Catman?"
"Five units of meat each." Liu Xingxing blinked, somewhat confused, but answered obediently.
Li Ziyu graced him with a smile. "Would you like to have a few more Catmen?"
’Hell yeah, I want more! It’s all I dream about!’
Liu Xingxing nodded vigorously.
The smile on Li Ziyu’s face widened as he asked in an even gentler tone, "And can *you* hunt?"
Liu Xingxing shook his head so hard it was like a rattle. Hunting was out of the question for him. At best, he could maybe bag a rabbit or snare a fox, and the meat from such small prey wasn’t even enough to feed himself and the Catman.
Seeing him shake his head, Li Ziyu smacked him upside the head. "Without me, this so-called capitalist, what the hell would you eat? How the hell would you get more Catmen?! It’s not like *I* need meat to summon my Undead! And you’re complaining about me bullying the mute? Calling me a capitalist?"
After a few smacks to the head, it finally dawned on Liu Xingxing. He quickly flashed a placating smile. "How could you be a capitalist, Boss? You’re so kind and noble, completely different from those capitalists who’d devour a man without spitting out the bones!"
’You have to know when to back down. If it means I can get more Catmen, increase my own strength, and have a better chance of survival in this Otherworld... what’s a few smacks to the head?’
After knocking on his skull a couple more times for good measure, Li Ziyu finally let him be, turning his gaze toward the Wraith Mountain Range with a smile.
’A chance to rise up... It’s been so long. I’ve waited for this, and I’ve finally grasped it.’
’I still remember when we needed Wood before. The Undead had to hack away at trees with their Bone Sabers and Curved Sabers. They could work for half a day and have almost nothing to show for it. But now it’s different. With tools like the Woodcutter’s Axe, their chopping Speed will increase, and the Wood will start rolling in.’
[Alert: Storage space insufficient. Please construct a storage building immediately. *Resource collection will be halted until storage space is increased.]
The smile hadn’t even left Li Ziyu’s face before it froze solid.
’What the hell? "Insufficient space" is a thing? How did I not know about this before?’
’Oh, right. My bad. I was just too poor before for "insufficient storage space" to ever be a problem. *Cue face streaming with tears.*’
’What was the source of my ignorance? Poverty. It was poverty!’
’Ever since arriving in this Otherworld, I’ve never had a night with a harvest this big. A surplus of Skeletons? Unheard of. It was always "not enough of this," "a shortage of that"—I was lacking everything. I was so stressed I was getting ulcers.’
’Whatever. Let’s not talk about it. It’s just a tear-jerking story.’
’So what if I don’t have storage space? No problem. I’ll just build some!’
He pulled up the system and scrolled through it, finding a blueprint that was practically collecting dust. It was for a building he had once considered completely superfluous. That building was called—the Warehouse.
[Warehouse]
[Introduction: Are you blind? Don’t you recognize this word? Say it with me: Ware-house. It’s used for storing resources! It can store a lot!]
