Global Survival: I Got the D-Rank Personnel Simulator
Chapter 602: Alternate Guidance
Lin Ye suddenly stopped, because the map data didn’t match the terrain ahead.
While Lin Ye was thinking, Xiao Mei, who had been riding beside him on the Dinosaur Body, suddenly spoke up:
"Uh, what I see might be different from what you see. In my field of vision, there’s a giant corpse lying in the seawater ahead, which you all don’t seem to be able to see..."
She had actually noticed some anomalies earlier, but the Dinosaur Body had been moving so fast that she hadn’t had time to confirm them before they passed.
"...So that’s it. No wonder something felt off."
Lin Ye suddenly realized the problem. That abstract map had several especially odd areas, places that were probably not meant to be viewed from his perspective alone, but required another viewpoint.
Because this region had already been influenced by that building, the map couldn’t be read from a single, isolated perspective.
"Take a look at this map, which way should we go next?"
Lin Ye transmitted the map’s spiritual imprint to Xiao Mei. He did not spawn a small, alienated version of himself to scout the area, since doing so would carry too much risk.
"...It seems we need to enter that giant corpse lying on the sea. I can lead the way ahead."
Xiao Mei took some time to locate the route on the map nearby.
"Good. Tell me immediately if anything goes wrong."
The Dinosaur Body carried Xiao Mei to the front, and the three of them followed behind it.
In their view, they were still walking across corpses on the sea surface, but in Xiao Mei’s field of vision they had already entered the open mouth of the giant corpse.
Xiao Mei described the surrounding environment as she walked. Lin Ye mentally reconstructed the terrain on both sides. He felt that the entire battlefield space was undergoing some kind of transformation. Only by understanding that transformation to some extent could they survive this war.
"Uh, the terrain ahead doesn’t match the map."
Xiao Mei suddenly stopped and said to Lin Ye.
"Okay, now it’s my turn... to lead."
Lin Ye moved to where Xiao Mei stood. An island formed from the corpse of some colossal creature appeared in his view. On that island coiled a blue-green worm long enough to cover the entire island. The long worm was only as thick as an arm, but its length was ridiculous.
"That looks like an out-of-control tenth-order spiritual energy user."
Victoria walked up beside Lin Ye. She saw the island and the long worm on it as well.
"Has it already gone rogue? We’d better find a way out of here as fast as possible, otherwise we won’t fare any better."
Su Yue sighed. For tenth-order spiritual energy users like them, as their bodies became more alienated, they had to continuously raise their mental energy to control their bodies and maintain stability of their Consciousness. If they lost control, the consequences would be horrific.
"Should we deal with it first? Ah, it seems to have noticed us."
The long worm crawled toward Lin Ye and the others, but when it reached the island’s periphery it suddenly changed direction, as if there were an invisible wall there, isolating them in two different spaces.
Lin Ye stepped onto the island following the map. The long worm swam around them constantly, but it couldn’t touch them at all.
The worm’s mouth opened and closed repeatedly, and its body formed all kinds of shapes, but Lin Ye couldn’t understand what it was trying to express.
"This seems to be an information blockade. We can’t comprehend the message it’s trying to convey. You’d better not look at it."
Victoria turned away cautiously and stopped observing the long worm. Establishing this kind of information blockade could embed dangerous information. That was likely the reason they were able to perceive the long worm at all.
"It wants us to rescue it, and it says it will reward me. It seems trapped inside some kind of looping space... Idiot, after you die, your assets will be mine."
Lin Ye said casually.
"You can understand the message it expresses?"
Su Yue looked at Lin Ye in surprise.
"There are my Mutation Creatures over there, of course I can understand what it wants to convey."
Lin Ye was analyzing the spatial changes of the entire battlefield. The long worm and the information it expressed provided Lin Ye with excellent experimental data.
"...Only a system could cultivate a mid-level Spiritual Energy User like you."
Su Yue couldn’t help but exclaim.
Lin Ye didn’t answer. He didn’t know the system well enough yet, so he didn’t want to bring up topics related to it.
He was the system’s Survivor, and undoubtedly everything about him was closely tied to the system.
When it came to things that couldn’t be spoken of, silence was the proper response.
After boarding the island, they entered its interior under Lin Ye’s guidance. The island’s internal structure was very complex. After several swaps with Xiao Mei to alternate who led the way, they finally reached the island’s exit.
"Uh, are you sure we should exit from here?"
Su Yue stood at the edge of the exit. Outside was an empty expanse of sky.
The exit was tens of thousands of meters above the ground. In a normal world, even if Su Yue fell from tens of thousands of meters she wouldn’t be harmed, but here she had to seriously consider even jumping down from more than one meter.
"From now on you must stick close to me and not take a single wrong step. Xiao Mei, you might need to lead the way ahead in a bit. Before that, you must figure out the sky’s structure and then guide us according to that structure."
Lin Ye took a step outside, and he steadily stepped on top of the sky.
"...What happens if I go the wrong way?"
Xiao Mei asked nervously.
"I don’t know either. Maybe you’ll be moved to another area and become some strange shape." 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Lin Ye kept walking forward as if he were taking a stroll near his building. The sky’s structure had to be observed using mental energy. He recorded some obvious structures and summarized a structure index to hand to Xiao Mei.
Xiao Mei memorized the different structures carefully and compared them to her surroundings. Although her perspective differed from Lin Ye and the others, she now also saw a sky with those structures around it.
Soon it was Xiao Mei’s turn to lead from the front. The Dinosaur Body set her at the very front of the line; now she had to rely on herself.
"...What if she goes the wrong way? What should we do?"
Su Yue could offer some trust to Lin Ye, who had once saved her, but she couldn’t bring herself to trust this trembling little girl.
"If it’s an obviously wrong route, we can still think of other options. But if it’s a less obvious wrong route, then we might completely lose our bearings here."
Lin Ye glanced at the cautiously moving Xiao Mei and said casually.
"...I have a secret technique that can temporarily raise mental strength. Can she learn it first?"
Su Yue sighed and took a Mind Crystal out of a spatial item.
