Gourmet: Midnight Vending
Chapter 529 - 420: Working Out While Eating_2
Lin Yutong saw this and quickly followed, holding an empty milk tea cup in her hand. But her stamina was not good; she was exhausted after jogging a few steps and turned into a fast walk.
Huang Shurui’s running and shouting quickly attracted the attention of passersby.
At this moment, a middle-aged uncle with a briefcase stopped in his tracks, pushed his glasses, and looked puzzled at the running couple: "What’s going on?"
A nearby lady walking her dog also paused to watch. She tugged on the dog’s leash, and the little dog stopped too, tilting its head and sticking out its tongue. The lady squinted and muttered: "Didn’t hear about a marathon being held."
Huang Shurui had no time to mind the onlookers; his mind was full of his girlfriend’s earlier ravenous eating. He was itching, not for anything else, just purely curious to taste if the noodles were really that amazing.
The uncle with the briefcase noticed Lin Yutong was also briskly walking as if chasing the vehicle, and he intercepted her to ask, "Excuse me, are you chasing something?"
"Chasing that car!" Lin Yutong pointed to the yellow food truck a few hundred meters ahead, "It’s a cart selling noodles and pancakes, super delicious!"
The uncle adjusted his glasses again and asked, "Why chase it?"
The main thing is it sounds a bit too absurd; couldn’t they just ask the owner to stop by the roadside? Why chase?
Because the uncle saw that the young man who was running ahead had already caught up with the food truck, but neither the cart nor the person seemed to have any plans to stop; they were continuing forward.
"Don’t know, that owner is really weird. He says someone’s chasing him, so he has to run away. To eat the noodles, we can only chase!"
After saying this, Lin Yutong couldn’t stay longer because the food truck was getting farther away from her.
If she didn’t hurry and run a few steps, she might have to sprint even faster soon, which would be exhausting.
The uncle watched the two young people run onward, squinting.
"Could this be some new type of street food?"
Suddenly, he seemed to understand.
Xu Zhenghao, an ordinary office worker. Today, he had finally managed to leave work early. Xu Zhenghao’s plan was first to grab something to eat at the night market, then head home early to exercise.
Actually... Xu Zhenghao’s daily plan was always like this, but oddly, everything would come to a halt just before the day’s workout session.
The doctor had reminded him many times that middle-aged men like him, who are always deskbound, must start exercising, even if it’s just a bit of running each day.
Otherwise, not only would internal body issues arise, but problems with his cervical vertebra and waist would also escalate.
But perhaps only heaven knows, that every day, just when Xu Zhenghao decided to workout after dinner, he ended up wanting nothing more than to lay down and relax instead.
The next day upon waking up, he felt very regretful for not working out the day before!
Of course, he wasn’t the only one; many of Xu Zhenghao’s colleagues faced the same situation. The demands of work and family nearly drained a man’s energy, leaving little for exercising. This matter was slightly discussed only during cigarette breaks on the balcony at work.
And now, seeing those young folks running, Xu Zhenghao had a sudden realization.
"Right, couldn’t this solve both the workout and dining issue at once?"
He heard that the truck sold noodles, and today he had planned to eat noodles at the night market anyway.
Thinking of this, he didn’t hesitate, hoisting up his briefcase and jogging toward the direction of the food truck.
"Huff, huff..."
Just a few steps in, Xu Zhenghao felt pain in the front of his calves, and his waist started aching.
His heart rate seemed to increase, and he was already out of breath.
"Has my body really deteriorated to this extent?"
"Just running a few hundred meters, I can barely handle it?"
Xu Zhenghao suddenly realized his health might indeed have issues now; thinking back to when he could easily run five kilometers in his youth, the competitive spirit kicked in.
"I must catch up with that food truck today!"
He tried his best to maintain a steady pace, running just a bit faster than the truck, feeling himself slowly getting closer to it.
Meanwhile, he didn’t forget to whip out his phone and snap a photo of himself, casually posting it on social media.
[Sometimes, fitness happens at any moment in life, even if you’re wearing a suit and leather shoes, so what?]
In the photo, Xu Zhenghao was already dripping with sweat. Others seeing it might mistake it for having run at least a dozen kilometers.
Putting away his phone, Xu Zhenghao continued running!
Finally, after about three minutes, Xu Zhenghao felt all his muscles were about to melt, his chest seemed pressed by a huge rock, and even breathing felt painful.
"This is a crisis signal my body is sending!"
"Didn’t realize before, I guess I’ve really become frail!"
Looking at the young fellow consistently running alongside the truck, he seemed unfazed, even shouting for the owner to add more meat.
At last, Huang Shurui got another bowl of steaming, fragrant sliced noodles, satisfactorily stopping to move towards the roadside.
First, he looked back and saw Lin Yutong was still far away from him.
Then he glanced at the noodles in his hands.
"Yutong said earlier, this bowl of noodles is for me."
"So even if I don’t wait for her to get here and just eat it myself, it should be fine, right?"
"Besides, Yutong has already eaten so much; she probably isn’t hungry anymore."
Thinking this, Huang Shurui smiled, lowered his head to inhale the familiar wheat aroma from the noodles.
Without hesitation, he dug in!
From afar, Lin Yutong saw her boyfriend had gotten the noodles, first feeling delighted.
After running a couple more steps, she saw her boyfriend sitting on a roadside planter with the noodles, and began to feel a bit uneasy.
As she continued running forward, she found him eating the noodles while squatting, before she’d even joined him?
"Is he worried I’d steal some noodles, so he wants to finish it quickly before I get there?"
Lin Yutong suddenly felt slightly unhappy.
"Putting aside whether I’ll eat it or not, couldn’t he at least wait for me? Do couples lack even this bit of trust between them?"
Lin Yutong quickened her pace, deciding to demand an explanation from Huang Shurui!
Meanwhile, the utterly exhausted Xu Zhenghao finally caught up with the food truck.
He leaned his left hand on the countertop, using the truck’s movement to catch his breath.
"Ol...Ol..."
"Boss," Chen Mo completed his words.
"I...I want..."
"Need a bowl of noodles, right?"
Xu Zhenghao gulped down his dry throat, "Yep!"
Chen Mo pointed to the menu at the front of the cart, signaling him to pay.
Xu Zhenghao released his grip on the cart, fishing out cash from his pocket, "Also want..."
"Also want a serving of milk tea pancakes." Chen Mo continued for him, looking at the elder brother with a bit of disbelief, "Bro, you’re way too out of shape! You’ve barely run far, why are you panting like this? Clearly, you never work out."
Xu Zhenghao was too exhausted, thirsty, and hungry, and mainly couldn’t catch his breath, making it entirely difficult to converse with Chen Mo. He just continued holding onto the cart, trying to keep pace with it.
And then he witnessed... a scene unforgettable for life.
"What’s happening?"
Just as Huang Shurui imagined earlier, Xu Zhenghao expected the small owner to take out some musical instrument. But upon closer examination, the item spread on the boss’s arm was actually a long strip of dough!
And with the boss’s repeated pulling and tugging with his right hand, noodle strands like silvery dragons leaped from the air into the boiling water pot.
Xu Zhenghao was mesmerized.
Regardless of its taste, this technique, was astounding!
