Guarding the River of Time
Chapter 519 - 509: Who Saved Me from Despair, the Immortal Shadow Walking Beside Time
"Little Fish, live well."
This ethereal voice, Su Mu couldn’t tell if it was male or female, but it was very pleasant, like a spring breeze, akin to celestial music echoing from a mountain stream.
However, within this celestial music, Su Mu discerned a deep melancholy.
This Immortal Shadow, with gentle hands, cradled him and found a pool of accumulated water, placing him in the only remaining water in the dried riverbed.
Once he came into contact with the water source, Su Mu was finally able to breathe and gradually began to recover.
After setting him down, the Immortal Shadow paused slightly.
Su Mu lifted his head, wanting to clearly see the person who saved him, but he couldn’t discern the appearance of this Immortal Shadow no matter how hard he tried.
Veiled and elusive, he could only see the outline, not the face.
After pausing briefly, the Immortal Shadow turned and left.
Su Mu watched the shadow’s silhouette fade away until it disappeared at the end of the river path.
Suddenly, Su Mu felt his body becoming transparent, and when he looked down, he found that his body had become incorporeal and fused with the river water...
The next second, his consciousness began to fade.
As his consciousness thoroughly dissipated, the surrounding scene began to swiftly transform.
The scene continually reversed; the small pool of stagnant water started to flood with volumes of water, the dried riverbed returned to normal, the surrounding vegetation emerged, and fish in the river began to spawn slowly.
The entire process took just a few breaths, as if a slide show rapidly passed through Su Mu’s mind.
His viewpoint was from a "God’s eye view," overlooking all these changes.
Finally, he completely lost consciousness and was no longer aware of anything.
.....
He didn’t know how much time had passed when Su Mu felt a voice calling him by his ear.
Gradually, he regained a sense of his body, the first feeling being that his eyelids were very heavy.
Su Mu slowly opened his eyes, and a worried little face came into view, with big, watery eyes shimmering with tears, red-rimmed and filled with concern.
"Daddy, you’re finally awake."
It was at that moment Su Mu noticed he was lying on the riverbank, with Nannan supporting him with her thin body.
Turning his head, he saw the Iron-Eating Beast, Five Little Ones, Little Fox, Old Cyan Ox, Barrier Beast, and other little ones sitting on the ground, panting heavily. Seeing their owner woke them excited, but they couldn’t even stand due to exhaustion.
Su Mu sat up and looked towards the riverbank, finding Little Black Dragon, Kong Yao, Koi Carp, Little Tiger Whale, and other seven small companions, also lifting their heads worriedly, looking at him on the riverbank.
Seeing this scene, Su Mu was stunned. He didn’t know what had happened.
He only remembered that last night, he used one hundred thousand Favor Points to raise his River Affinity to the critical threshold of ninety percent.
And then, he only recalled having a very, very long dream.
But when he tried to recall it, he couldn’t remember anything.
The only thing he remembered was an ethereal voice and a blurry figure; everything else was forgotten.
He wiped the tears from the corner of Nannan’s eyes with his hand and smiled, saying, "Nannan, what happened to Daddy? Why is Nannan crying...."
After speaking, Nannan sniffled a few times, then took a few deep breaths before slowly saying, "Because Daddy went missing."
"Daddy went missing?" Su Mu frowned tightly.
"Yes, yes." Nannan nodded and continued, "Daddy has been missing for thirty-three days."
Hearing Nannan’s response, Su Mu’s eyes widened, stunned.
So, from the day he raised the River Affinity, he had been unconscious for a full thirty-three days?!
But why did this happen?
Being unconscious for one or two days is understandable, but thirty-three days is quite terrifying.....
He desperately tried to recall that dream, but no matter what, he couldn’t remember, although he could feel that it was a very, very long dream....
....
That day, when Nannan got up, she found Daddy was not at home, but she didn’t think much of it.
Because Daddy usually got up very early and went out early.
The second day, Daddy still hadn’t returned home, and although Nannan was worried, she obediently stayed at home to take care of it.
By the third and fourth days, there was still no news of Daddy.
Nannan started to get anxious because Daddy rarely didn’t come home for several days like this. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
But she stayed calm because sometimes Daddy wouldn’t come home for a few days, which she comforted herself thinking he might still be busy.
Finally, on the tenth day, Nannan couldn’t sit still anymore.
She took the big boat Daddy made for her and navigated along the river to places Daddy often visited, searching along the way, but after three days, she still couldn’t find any trace of Daddy.
In the end, she informed the Iron-Eating Beasts and the Five Little Ones about this news.
Thus, the family started searching along the River of Time in all directions.....
By the fifteenth day, Nannan called the eldest brother and second brother, informing them about Daddy’s disappearance.
Thus, Little Black Dragon, Kong Yao, Little Tiger Whale, and the seven companions began searching along the river, traversing major water bodies, traveling far and wide, seeking many places.
They searched for seventeen full days!
Thirty-two days had passed since Daddy went missing, and during this search period, the usually strong Nannan didn’t know how many times she had cried.
But no matter how many times she cried, she continued searching while crying, never resting even for a second, even when exhausted or when night fell.
Nannan wasn’t the only one; Su Mu’s cherished little companions were the same, without a moment’s rest.
To find their master, the Five Little Ones released hundreds of small animals under their care into the River of Time all at once, having them seek out their master’s whereabouts.
During the search, some of these hundreds of small animals died of exhaustion in the river, some were eaten by big fish, and in less than a month, more than a hundred were missing, with life or death unknown....
These hundreds of small animals working in the medicine garden had not been bonded by Su Mu and were free to leave, unbound. Still, they ventured forward fearlessly and loyally, unafraid to sacrifice themselves.
The Iron-Eating Beasts almost exhausted themselves to death on the River of Time, encountering, multiple times during the night, a powerful Fierce Beast lurking underwater that launched lethal attacks on the Iron-Eating Beasts. If it weren’t for the timely barrier activation by the two Barrier Beasts to fend off the attack, the Iron-Eating Beasts would have faced dire danger.
It was also because of this incident that the resentment between the Iron-Eating Beasts and the two Barrier Beasts was essentially resolved, proving that only family will lend a helping hand when real danger comes.
"So where did you find me?"
After hearing Nannan’s story, Su Mu was deeply moved.
