He Proposed to His First Love, So I Married His Archenemy
Chapter 71: Two Fox Spirits
Yvonne Sutton quickly pushed Wyatt Shaw away, cleared her throat, and went back to comforting Heather Rhodes.
Wyatt sat back down on the sofa. He scrolled through his phone for a bit, but finding it boring, he simply closed his eyes to sleep.
They waited and waited, but there was still no word from Kyle Sharp.
Heather grew more and more frantic, muttering to herself, "He’ll come. He’ll definitely come. He said he couldn’t bear to see me wronged. He said he loves me..."
Yvonne glanced outside. The sky had already turned dark.
"Let’s go get some dinner first," she said to Heather.
Heather shook her head. "I don’t have an appetite. You two go ahead."
But how could Yvonne leave her in the room alone? She looked at Wyatt, and he immediately understood what she meant.
"I’ll call and have them send some food up."
When the food arrived, Yvonne and Wyatt ate a little, but Heather didn’t touch a thing.
"I’m taking you back to the old family estate," Wyatt said to Heather after dinner.
Heather quickly hid behind Yvonne. "You promised three days, and it’s not time yet! He’ll definitely come. Maybe... maybe he’s on his way. Maybe he’s stuck in traffic."
Wyatt’s expression darkened. "Can you just get your head straight? He’s not coming!"
"He will come! He won’t abandon me and the baby!" Heather yelled.
"You..."
Before Wyatt could say more, Yvonne quickly cut him off.
"Let’s just wait a bit longer. Give them some more time," Yvonne said to Wyatt.
Wyatt kicked the leg of the sofa in frustration and went into the inner room.
Heather was a little frightened and started to cry softly.
Yvonne comforted her for a long time before she finally calmed down a little.
"Auntie, nobody knows Kyle Sharp better than I do."
"Mm-hmm."
"He’s a responsible man. He loves me very, very much." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
"Mm-hmm."
"He couldn’t bear to let me face all this alone. He’ll come."
Yvonne put an arm around Heather. "Then we’ll just wait a little longer. We’ll wait."
Exhausted from crying and talking—and perhaps exhausted in her heart as well—Heather leaned against the sofa and fell asleep. Yvonne covered her with a blanket, dimmed the table lamp, and then went into the inner room.
Wyatt seemed to be asleep already. She leaned in and called his name softly.
He opened his eyes, saw her face, and gasped.
"What kind of monster is this?"
Yvonne froze for a second, then indignantly pounced on him. "I’m the monster, and I’m going to eat you up!"
Wyatt flipped her over, pinning her beneath him. His clear eyes were full of playful mischief. "What kind of monster are you?"
Yvonne narrowed her eyes. "What do you think?"
Wyatt looked her up and down, tutting and shaking his head, before finally letting out a chuckle. Guessing he wasn’t about to say anything nice, Yvonne tilted her head up and nipped his chin.
Wyatt’s eyes darkened, a dangerous signal.
"You’re obviously... a vixen!"
"A vixen?"
Yvonne couldn’t hold back a smile. "Hmph, you’re the vixen."
"So we’ve been seducing each other, then?"
"Who—who’s seducing you!"
Wyatt winked at her, then slowly unbuttoned his shirt, revealing a chest as smooth as white jade. His well-defined hands continued downward, unbuckling his belt...
Yvonne’s breath hitched as she craned her neck to look down.
"Do you want me?"
Yvonne pinched her nose, terrified she was about to have a nosebleed. She looked at Wyatt’s face again—dangerous yet alluring in the dim light, making her sink into a helpless infatuation.
"Do you?" he asked again.
Yvonne bit her lower lip and finally gave a meek nod.
"Say it," he tempted her.
Yvonne took her hand away from her nose, her eyes fixed on his lips with such longing.
"Wyatt..."
"Call me ’husband’."
"Hu-Husband... I want..."
And with that, he immediately overwhelmed her, so urgent it was as if he were the one who had been seduced, lost his senses, and was desperately craving her.
After the fire had burned fiercely, Wyatt carried Yvonne to take a shower, and they returned to bed. She lounged against Wyatt, letting him massage her as she hummed in comfort.
Suddenly remembering Heather, Yvonne quickly sat up.
"Heather is still out there!"
Worried that Wyatt might upset Heather again, she had him stay in the inner room to sleep while she got dressed and went out. No one was in the living room. She searched the suite and finally found Heather on the terrace.
Yvonne felt a bit guilty. She pulled her jacket tighter and walked outside, only to find Heather on a video call.
"Kyle Sharp, you bastard! How dare you have the nerve to break up with me at a time like this!"
"You don’t want me, and you don’t want the baby either! You coward!"
"Fine! Let’s break up then! Don’t you ever let me see you again!"
Heather ended the call and collapsed onto the floor.
Yvonne sighed softly. She walked over and helped the tear-streaked Heather to her feet, guided her to the living room, and covered her with a blanket.
"If you want to cry, just cry," Yvonne said.
Heather looked up at Yvonne for a moment, then buried her head and started to sob. She cried for a long, long time, until she might have run out of tears.
Finally, she wiped away her tears and managed a smile at Yvonne.
"Auntie, I ran into a scumbag."
Yvonne sat down and hugged her. "It’s not the end of the world to meet a scumbag. What’s important is to walk away decisively and let yourself move on."
Early the next morning, Wyatt and Yvonne took Heather back to the old family estate.
After dropping Heather off at her home, Wyatt briefly explained the situation, then pulled Yvonne away.
Yvonne was a little worried about Heather, but Wyatt reassured her.
"My big brother and sister-in-law dote on Heather. They’ll be angry and find it hard to accept at first, but soon all they’ll feel is heartache for her. Besides, I called Silas Rhodes, and he’s coming back soon."
The two returned to the main house, where Daisy Shaw saw them and looked pleasantly surprised.
"What are you two doing back so early in the morning?"
Wyatt stuck his hands in his pockets, tilted his head, and grinned at Daisy. "Came back because I missed you, of course."
Daisy glared at him. "You’re never serious."
Just then, Mr. Rhodes also came downstairs. Yvonne told them what had happened with Heather.
After listening, Daisy frowned. "If a man can’t even take that little bit of responsibility, what good is he!"
Then, she immediately warned Wyatt, "If you ever do Yvonne wrong, I won’t let you off the hook!"
Wyatt laughed. "If I do her wrong, you can just kick me out and adopt her as your goddaughter. How about that?"
"I’d also have to chop off your hands and feet and chain you up in the doghouse, to keep you from ruining anyone else!"
Mr. Rhodes stood to the side, seemingly wanting to say something, pursing his lips several times.
"Dad, did you go for your walk last night?" Yvonne asked.
The moment she asked this, Mr. Rhodes looked a little guilty. "I did."
Daisy snorted. "He just walked one lap around the courtyard. Not even a hundred steps in total."
"That’s not good enough. How about I go walking with you tonight?"
Mr. Rhodes didn’t want to agree and hurried toward the dining room.
"Let’s eat quickly. I have to get to the company for a meeting."
At the dining table, Mr. Rhodes asked about Wyatt’s business trip. Wyatt said a few words, but Mr. Rhodes picked apart several things he’d done wrong, and Wyatt threw down his chopsticks and went straight upstairs.
"Look at him! I’m his father, what’s wrong with me criticizing him a little? He was sent by heaven specifically to torture me. He’s my nemesis."
"That’s enough. Weren’t you the one who started it?" Daisy said.
Hearing this, Mr. Rhodes had had enough, too. He threw down his chopsticks and left.
In an instant, only Daisy and Yvonne were left at the table.
"Don’t mind them. If they don’t eat, they’ll be the ones who go hungry. We’ll eat," Daisy said with a frown.
’This family looks harmonious on the surface, but they can’t sit and talk together. The moment they say too much and hit a sensitive spot, they immediately get prickly and seize any chance to attack one another. She recalled what Daisy had said about a misunderstanding between them and Wyatt—a misunderstanding that could never be resolved in this lifetime. It must be because of this misunderstanding that the family is like this.’
