Chapter 2333: Story 2334: War in the Mountain

The mountain began tearing itself apart.

Thousands of silver tendrils slammed downward through the storm, piercing ice, rock, and steel as the colossal Harvester descended lower over Site Zero. The frozen peaks surrounding the facility cracked open beneath the pressure of its arrival.

It was no longer hiding in the clouds.

It was coming.

Emergency sirens screamed through the collapsing corridors while ARCHON’s voice echoed urgently through failing speakers.

“Catastrophic breach detected across upper containment sectors.”

The eyeless Warden stood motionless amid the chaos.

Black spirals glowed brighter across its smooth face as silver growth crawled desperately toward it from the shattered ceilings above.

Then the silver stopped.

The fungal matter recoiled violently like living flesh touching fire.

Fear.

Even the infection feared the Wardens.

Selena stared upward as another explosion shook the tunnel.

“We need a plan right now!”

Maya looked between the ancient being and the collapsing corridors around them.

“You said you imprisoned the Harvesters before.”

The Warden turned slowly toward her.

At terrible cost.

Another deafening shriek rolled across the mountain.

This time the sound carried words hidden beneath it.

RETURN THE BRIDGE.

Every silver organism throughout Site Zero responded instantly.

Hunters burst through collapsing vents and shattered walls all at once. Spider-like bodies flooded the corridors in waves while silver light pulsed from their eyes and mouths.

Selena opened fire immediately.

Bullets shattered limbs and skulls, but more creatures replaced them instantly.

Ethan fell against the wall clutching his head as black and silver veins twisted violently beneath his skin.

“They’re inside me again!”

The Warden stepped forward.

And reality bent around it. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎

Black light exploded through the corridor in total silence. The nearest hunters froze mid-motion before collapsing into gray ash that scattered across the floor like burned paper.

The remaining creatures retreated shrieking.

But the Harvester above the mountain answered with rage.

A colossal tendril finally punched through the ceiling directly overhead.

Steel and ice erupted downward.

Maya barely rolled aside as the enormous silver appendage smashed into the corridor floor, writhing violently. Thousands of glowing eyes opened across its surface simultaneously.

Watching.

Searching.

One enormous pupil focused directly on Maya.

FOUND YOU.

The tendril lunged.

The Warden intercepted it instantly.

For the first time Maya saw the ancient being truly fight.

Its thin black body unfolded unnaturally as spirals of dark energy erupted outward from its limbs. The silver tendril screamed as black fractures spread across its surface like disease.

Then the Warden tore the appendage apart.

Silver blood flooded the corridor.

But above them—

The Harvester barely noticed.

Because there were more tendrils descending.

Hundreds.

The mountain groaned as entire sections of Site Zero collapsed inward beneath the assault.

ARCHON’s voice crackled through static.

“Orbital entity reaching gateway chamber in approximately six minutes.”

Selena looked horrified.

“What happens if it reaches the prison?”

The Warden answered quietly.

The Devourer becomes whole again.

Cold dread spread through Maya’s chest.

“The prison isn’t keeping you trapped,” she realized.

The Warden looked at her.

It is keeping something else contained.

Silence.

Then Ethan’s eyes widened in terror.

“The gateway...”

Silver blood dripped from his mouth.

“It wasn’t built to imprison the Wardens.”

The mountain shook again.

Deep below them, something massive moved beneath the gateway chamber.

Something even the Warden feared.

The ancient being turned toward the darkness beneath Site Zero.

And for the first time since emerging from the prison—

Maya sensed fear inside it too.

The Sleeper awakens, it whispered.

Then the floor beneath them cracked open.

A colossal black hand erupted upward from the depths below.

And the Harvester screamed like a dying god.
