How Hard can Losing Money even Be?
Chapter 25: Family Bonding.
The atmosphere at the table gradually became much lighter afterward.
At the very least, Selena no longer looked like a criminal awaiting judgment.
Instead, she slowly relaxed while eating, occasionally even complaining about her viewers and terrible teammates during games.
Benny quietly listened while eating.
Honestly..... it felt nice.
Back in his previous life, he had considered family meetings a waste of time and put all his energy to earn as much as possible only to end up living paycheck to paycheck.
So sitting here now, eating a simple homemade dinner while chatting casually with his sister, strangely gave him a peaceful feeling he hadn’t experienced in years.
Eventually, Selena placed down her chopsticks and looked toward him.
"So... what have you been doing lately?"
Selena hesitated briefly before continuing.
"And... have you been spending the money wisely?"
The moment she said those words, Benny immediately noticed the slight hesitation in her tone.
Clearly she was worried about him.
Worried he had suddenly received a large amount of money and lost control of himself.
After all, 7,000¥ was an enormous amount.
Benny remained silent for a moment, then he calmly placed down his chopsticks.
"I intend to stop going to college."
Clink!
Selena’s chopsticks slipped slightly against her bowl while her expression instantly changed.
"What?"
Before she could continue asking questions, Benny quickly raised his hand slightly.
"Before you ask why," he said seriously, "let me finish first."
Selena stared at him quietly, the relaxed atmosphere from earlier disappeared almost instantly.
A trace of sadness unconsciously appeared in her eyes.
Still, after several seconds, she slowly nodded.
"...Alright," she said softly. "Speak your mind first."
"Thank you."
Benny organized his thoughts briefly before speaking again.
"Actually... I won third prize in a lottery recently."
Selena blinked in surprise.
"And with that money," Benny continued calmly, "I started a company and want to focus on it for now."
The moment those words left his mouth, Selena’s brows immediately knitted together.
"A company? What kind of company?" she asked carefully.
"Investment related," Benny replied vaguely.
Selena instantly felt a headache coming.
Investment, lottery winnings and dropping out of college.
No matter how she combined those words together, it sounded exactly like the beginning of a disaster story.
She inhaled slowly before speaking in a much more serious tone.
"Benny... do you know how many people fail when starting a business?"
"I know."
That’s exactly why I’m doing it in the first place, Benny thought inwardly while almost grinning.
"Starting a company isn’t as simple as opening an online game account," Selena continued while looking directly at him. "You need experience, connections, legal knowledge, management ability, and stable cash flow."
"And even then, most companies still fail."
Her voice wasn’t harsh, if anything, it sounded worried, very worried.
Yet strangely enough, her words sounded almost heavenly in Benny’s ears.
Because sometimes, when chasing after a goal, the most important thing wasn’t confidence in yourself.
It was having someone you trusted acknowledge that the path you were taking was real.
After all, if starting a business was truly impossible, Selena wouldn’t even bother listing out the risks seriously.
She would have dismissed it immediately as childish nonsense but she didn’t.
Instead, she treated his decision seriously enough to worry about him.
To Benny, that alone already meant she subconsciously believed he actually had a chance of succeeding.
Of course, in his particular situation, things were slightly special.
After all, his system practically rewarded failure more than success.
Still, hearing his own sister repeatedly explain how likely businesses were to collapse somehow only made him feel more optimistic.
Was success guaranteed?
No.
But according to Selena’s own words, there was at least a very high chance he would fail spectacularly.
Which was fantastic news for him.
"You’re only twenty," Selena said softly. "You haven’t even entered society properly yet. What if the money runs out? What if someone tricks you?"
If only someone would, Benny sighed inwardly.
Still, he quietly continued listening to her concerns without interrupting.
"What if the company fails halfway through and what happens afterward if you don’t even have a degree?"
Every sentence she spoke struck directly at reality.
Because unlike dreamy teenagers who believed passion alone could conquer the world, Selena had already stepped into society.
She knew how cruel reality could be.
A university degree wasn’t everything.
But without one, many doors wouldn’t even open in the first place.
She herself had struggled desperately just to survive.
How could she willingly watch Benny throw away the opportunity she and their parents sacrificed so much to give him?
"You know," she continued quietly, "Mom and dad sold the farmland so you and I could attend college."
"And Mom kept saying that once you graduate, our family would finally have two university students."
"When they talk about you, they’re genuinely proud."
Selena lowered her gaze slightly.
"I just... I don’t want you regretting this later."
The dining table became quiet afterward.
Only the faint sound of steam rising from the soup remained.
Because deep down she wasn’t against Benny trying something ambitious, she was simply afraid. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Afraid he was making a reckless decision at an age where people often confused impulse with confidence.
Benny looked at Selena for a moment before helplessly sighing inwardly.
Then he picked up his chopsticks again.
"...The food’s going to get cold," he said casually.
Selena’s fingers tightened slightly around her bowl, for some reason, that simple sentence made her feel unexpectedly down.
Because Benny’s attitude already made one thing very clear, he had no intention of backing down.
From beginning to end, he had spoken calmly and rationally, without the slightest trace of hesitation.
That frightened her more than impulsive excitement would have.
At the very least, impulsive people could still be persuaded.
But Benny looked like someone who had already made up his mind long ago.
In the end, Selena didn’t even ask how much money he had won from the lottery.
Instead, after remaining silent for a while, she quietly spoke.
"If you run into any problems... You can come ask me for help."
Benny chuckled softly.
"It’s okay, Sister," he replied. "I only used half of the lottery money for this."
"If it fails, I’ll transfer the other half to you and go back to studying."
"I don’t need your money," Selena immediately replied.
"Well," Benny laughed, "you’d basically just be holding it for me anyway. Then later you’d slowly return it to me every month in the name of living expenses."
Selena stared at him for a moment before finally helplessly nodding.
The atmosphere gradually relaxed once more.
Then suddenly, Selena seemed to remember something.
"By the way... Why did you suddenly start calling me ’Sister’?"
Benny looked at her in confusion.
"Why?" he asked. "Is it weird?"
"Huh? Ah—no, no." Selena immediately shook her head. "It’s nothing."
Then she quickly lowered her head toward her bowl.
"Sorry... let’s just eat."
Benny stared at her strangely while continuing his meal.
Then a sudden realization abruptly surfaced in his mind.
Wait.
Wasn’t I kind of a fucking brat during this time period in my previous life?
The more he thought about it, the more awkward he felt.
Back then, because of adolescence and stupid pride, he rarely acted close to Selena despite how much she cared for him.
He usually called her directly by name and always got annoyed whenever she lectured him.
