Chapter 12: Thank You

"Ding-Dong!

The afternoon break bell rang loudly, the teacher left the classroom, and the entire class immediately erupted in a cacophony of chatter.

Liam stood up, looking around. He was searching for Silvia, then his eyes locked onto a girl sitting in the front row, obscured by the many people standing.

He approached Silvia, and in a voice that was soft but loud enough to be heard, he said.

"Silvia... about the study group?"

Silvia turned towards Liam, tilting her head up. Seen from above like this, Silvia’s face looked quite small, Liam thought.

However, before Silvia could say anything, someone tapped Liam on the shoulder.

"Silvia! I got the information. They said we can’t have the study group at Megy’s house, so what now? It seems there’s no available house for us to use for a hangou— I mean, study group."

Well, before this, Silvia, Liam, Darren, and Megy had discussed this. They had decided to start the study group right after school, and the place was initially going to be at one of their houses. But it seemed none of them were available.

"Well... if that’s the case, there’s no other choice. We’ll just study at the school library," Silvia immediately found an alternative.

"So, everything is decided, right?" Liam asked, looking at them both.

"It seems so..." Darren then looked around.

"But this is strange. Look, everyone else has received their report documents for their study groups, and for some reason, ours weren’t distributed on the teacher’s desk," Darren said softly.

"Maybe it’s just delayed, we can look for it later, Darren. Or we can both look for it in the teacher’s office later," Liam replied.

"Mhmm... Is that so? Alright then, since there’s nothing else to discuss, I’m going to the school canteen, see you after school!" Darren waved, leaving the classroom.

Liam looked back at Silvia, she seemed to be thinking about something.

"So... you don’t mind teaching us, won’t that bother you?" Liam asked.

Silvia immediately snapped back to reality, then she looked at Liam and waved her hands back and forth.

"No, of course not. Besides, something like this actually benefits me. People say that teaching others in a field is the highest level of understanding in that field."

Liam nodded in understanding.

Seeing that Liam seemed to understand her explanation, Silvia slowly opened her mouth, a sentence she had wanted to say to Liam for so long was about to come out.

"Liam... Actually." Her voice was low, but Liam could hear it clearly.

Liam saw Silvia wringing her skirt, Silvia’s lips trembled slightly, and a blush appeared on Silvia’s ears.

Confusion arose in Liam’s mind.

’Huh...?’

"Liam... thank you for finding my notebook back in my freshmen year!" Her tone was quick and a bit loud.

Hearing this, Liam’s eyebrows rose, an awkward grin appeared on his lips, he turned his face away and scratched the back of his head.

Liam thought something like out of a romance novel would come out of Silvia’s mouth, well, of course, that wouldn’t happen.

’Who do you think you are, Liam? You’re just an ordinary guy.’ Liam thought.

But who would have thought that something like that could still be remembered by Silvia, something so trivial, and she still took the time to thank him.

Liam was increasingly amazed by Silvia’s memory and personality.

"What are you talking about, it was nothing. Haha..." Liam said with a polite smile. "Besides, I just happened to find your notebook, it was just a notebook, wasn’t it?"

Silvia put her hands on her chest, then said with a serious expression.

"No! You’re my savior, you know. That’s not just any notebook." Then she lowered her head.

Liam honestly felt very confused. No, like seriously, why has he been finding himself in situations he can’t handle or understand lately?

Why is the girl in front of him now looked at him with gratitude, he only found a notebook, that’s all. Was something important written in that notebook, or was this girl just suffering from Suspension Bridge Effect Syndrome?

Liam decided to remain silent, waiting for Silvia to speak.

"You know, Liam. If it weren’t for you, I might not have made it this far without your help," Silvia said sincerely.

Liam took a step back. Words like that, for some reason, made Liam’s heart tighten slightly.

’Isn’t this too much? Why would you say something that sounds so hyperbolic?’

He only found Silvia’s notebook during freshman year, seriously! That’s all!

"It’s not a big deal," Liam said, scratching his temple. "But, I’m quite surprised you still remember that. Umm... since you’re thanking me... You’re welcome, I guess?"

Seeing Liam’s slight unfamiliarity with thanks made Silvia let out a small giggle, her index finger on her lips trying to suppress it.

Instantly, Liam was confused about what to do. Then he finally remembered.

’Ah! About Miria’s misunderstanding!’

"Liam." His thoughts were suddenly interrupted. Silvia sat back in her chair, rummaging through her bag.

"Can you open your hands for me?" Silvia asked, and Liam instantly complied.

Then, in the blink of an eye, Liam’s palm was filled with various flavored candies.

"This is my token of gratitude," Silvia said, flashing her warmest smile.

Thump.

Liam was a little startled, he genuinely felt embarrassed right now, but in the end, he put the candies in his pocket.

"Thank y—" before he could even thank her, a loud noise was heard.

Bang.

Liam immediately looked behind him. Standing there was a girl with a very serious expression, a cold aura radiating throughout the classroom, silencing everyone.

Miria locked her cold gaze onto Liam.

"Liam Kent." His full name was spoken with a tone that sounded clearly angry.

Instantly, that tone seemed to trigger an alarm within Liam.

"Follow me to the student council room, now."

Liam then opened his mouth, using up all his courage at that very moment.

"For what?"

"Are you stupid? Of course, to get the report document for your study group later."

That was a very reasonable-sounding excuse.

Then, Liam heard the sound of a chair scraping behind him, Silvia stood up and said,

"Ah! Prez. I’m Liam’s study group leader, let me get—"

"Liam Kent. Am I still not clear enough?" Miria said again, this time more firmly. Her eyes also seemed to want to pierce Silvia.

Silvia frowned when she saw the Student Council President acting like that.

Liam then spread his arms towards Silvia, signaling her not to interfere.

"Alright, Prez."

Hearing that, Miria immediately turned around, her footsteps sounding loud.

Liam followed Miria, preparing himself for the possibility of being hypnotized again.
