Noticing Irene Spencer not far away, a girl frowned.

"Isn’t that Irene?"

"Vera?" Upon hearing this, Ria Chapman, who was eating chips, immediately turned her head. "Where is she?"

The girl pointed. Ria Chapman lifted her sunglasses, and after getting a clear look at the figure, she pursed her lips.

"Isn’t that Irene Spencer?"

"Aren’t you going over to say hello?" one of them asked. "I remember you two used to be pretty close, right?"

Ria Chapman pursed her lips again. "That was in the past. I’ve truly reformed now."

"By the way, have you heard the gossip about her and Kris Cooper?" another girl lowered her voice. "Speaking of which, Kris Cooper’s wife is really tolerant. For something like this to happen right before their wedding, and she still compliments how handsome he looks in the news photos... This woman, she really is..."

Before she could finish her sentence, Ria Chapman had already thrown her bag of chips at her.

"Who the hell are you talking about? Is Sister Vera someone you can gossip about? What the hell do you know!"

"Alright, alright!"

"She was just talking, Ria, don’t get angry!"

Her friends hurriedly tried to placate her, while the one who had been hit by the chips complained aggrievedly, "You used to curse her too, didn’t you?"

"Cut the crap!" Ria Chapman glared at her. "I’m telling you, Vera is my sister now! Anyone who bad-mouths her is crossing me. If you still want to hang out with me, you better remember this. Otherwise, get lost!"

These friends, who often freeloaded off her, naturally didn’t dare to defy her orders.

The girl who had just been gossiping about Irene Spencer—and by extension, Vera Wave—leaned in, smiling fawningly. "Still, speaking of which, this Irene is really shameless. He’s about to get married, and she’s still trying to use this scandal to stay relevant. The hotel involved even put out a clarification on Facebook before. What a slap in the face."

"Aren’t all these female celebrities like this? They do nothing constructive all day—either deliberately flashing some skin or stirring up scandals."

"Speaking of which, why is she here all alone?"

"Who knows? She’s probably hiding here to avoid being swarmed by reporters and get some peace and quiet, right?"

"Ria!" A short-haired girl nudged her arm. "Since you’re so set against your ’old friend’ now, how about we teach her a lesson?"

Ria Chapman looked up. "And how should we do that?"

The short-haired girl smirked and pointed towards a spot not far away. "She loves to flaunt her body so much, right? Let’s get her soaked. What do you think?"

Seeing the automatic sprinkler head she was pointing at, Ria Chapman immediately grinned.

"Nice one! I’ll lend you my car for a couple of days for that. Let’s go, girls!"

Giggling, the group of girls got up. Ria Chapman beckoned a few of them over with her finger and whispered some instructions. Two girls went to find the switch, while the others followed her towards the vineyard.

「In the vineyard.」

Irene Spencer checked her watch, then gazed at the setting sun on the western horizon. She took out a spare phone from her bag and called Kris Cooper.

"Hello, who is this?"

Soon, the man’s voice sounded in her ear.

Ever since Kris Cooper had blacklisted her number, Irene Spencer hadn’t spoken with him in several months. Now, hearing his voice, her heart couldn’t help but pound.

"Kris, it’s me."

"Who are you?" the man asked from the other end.

He wasn’t deliberately teasing, nor was he being sarcastic. He genuinely didn’t recognize her voice.
