Irene Spencer knew he had something to say that was inconvenient in front of the two people, so she stood up and followed the lawyer to the study room upstairs.

The lawyer closed the door tightly, then walked over and stopped in front of her.

"Miss Spencer, I just want to ask you one question."

"Go ahead."

"You..." The lawyer lowered his voice, "Does the explosion incident have anything to do with you?"

"Rubbish!" Irene Spencer frowned and cursed under her breath, "Of course not."

The lawyer was simply her lawyer, so Irene Spencer naturally wouldn’t tell him the truth. She wouldn’t tell anyone, not just him.

The lawyer nodded, "That’s good. Just wait peacefully. They can’t find any evidence against you. In a few days, they will have to return your documents according to procedure, and then you will be free to go wherever you want."

Irene Spencer felt secretly anxious, but only managed a bitter smile on her face.

"It seems now... that’s the only choice. You’ve been busy these days, so go home early and rest today. If anything comes up, I’ll call you."

"Alright." The lawyer nodded lightly, picked up his briefcase, and left.

Irene Spencer escorted him to the stairs, then turned back to the study and closed the door tightly. She walked to the table, took a cigarette from the drawer, and lit it as she walked to the balcony.

Leaning against the railing, she exhaled a puff of blue smoke.

There’s still a week left until her official release. She resorted to self-harm twice in hopes of using this opportunity to escape from this troubled place. Waiting made her uneasy.

After thinking for a while, she returned to the room.

She tossed the cigarette into the ashtray, and immediately opened the safe, taking out a spare phone. She pulled up a number and dialed it.

The phone quickly connected, and an unfamiliar male voice came through.

"Who are you looking for?"

"Adam?"

"What do you want with him?" Irene Spencer raised her eyebrow slightly, "Who are you?"

"I’m Adam’s friend..."

In the background noise of the man’s voice, a faint female voice could be heard.

"Sheriff..."

Though the voice was small, Irene Spencer still caught it, causing her heart to race. She hurriedly hung up the phone.

Looking at the phone in her hand, she froze for a moment, then quickly turned off the phone, extracted the SIM card, and used scissors to cut it into pieces. She then walked quickly into the bathroom, threw the cut card into the toilet, and pressed the flush button.

She turned around, walked to the sink, and washed her hands, though her palms were visibly trembling beyond control.

This phone number was her contact with her previous assassin middleman, Adam.

Originally, she called to see if Adam could come up with a way to get her a fake passport or find another way to help her get out of the country. But never expected such a result.

If the phone was in the hands of the police, could it be that the person on the other end had been caught? And then...would Adam spill the beans?

The more she thought about it, the more frightened she became, Irene Spencer’s trembling fingers turned off the faucet.

What to do now? What could she do?!

"Calm down, calm down!"

She cupped cold water and washed her face, then returned to the study room. After thinking for a while, she hurriedly opened a box, took out a stack of cash, held it in her hand, and slammed it heavily on the table.

"Damn it!"

Without a passport, without documents...she couldn’t even buy a plane ticket, couldn’t book a hotel. Where could she go?

Could it be that she just waits here?

No, that’s not an option!
