Chapter 36: Reward
Jee Zhiheng’s heart tightened, and he instinctively retreated. But in his haste, he couldn’t turn fast enough, and it looked like Yu Fei was about to catch him.
Jiang Yifan grew anxious. Of the four people present, he was the one who most wanted to grind Yu Fei’s face into the dirt—he even wanted to slap him a couple of times!
In his panic, he no longer hesitated and quickly gave chase, pulling away from Hu Fang.
Meanwhile, Feng Shuhao was still on his way, charging over.
Seeing Jiang Yifan take the bait, Yu Fei abruptly stopped mid-sprint, his right foot skidding across the ground. He then shot forward, spinning around to charge at Jiang Yifan.
Yu Fei had already achieved a rudimentary mastery of Dragon and Snake Double Stack, giving him stronger control over his power and allowing him to change moves with less of a pause.
This sudden turn took all four of them by surprise—no, it should be three. Jee Zhiheng was still running away.
Watching Yu Fei charge at him, Jiang Yifan froze for a second, his steps slowing involuntarily.
But he had been the one chasing Yu Fei and was the closest. It was too late to retreat and dodge now!
In a rush, Jiang Yifan steeled himself. He completely ignored defense, circulated his Qi Blood, and threw a punch at Yu Fei.
The perception from his Super Speed Reaction and keen insight allowed Yu Fei to easily evade Jiang Yifan’s attack and land a vicious punch on his neck.
BANG!
Jiang Yifan’s eyes rolled back in his head as he collapsed.
With his initial mastery of Dragon and Snake Double Stack, Yu Fei could imbue his strikes with the forces of One-Word Pierce and Yin Stream Shattered Jade, making his attacks even stronger.
When Jee Zhiheng realized Yu Fei wasn’t chasing him but had gone after Jiang Yifan instead, he had a bad feeling.
If Jiang Yifan was eliminated, their group would be even weaker. He immediately stopped running and, without hesitation, turned to attack Yu Fei.
’Jiang Yifan should be able to hold Yu Fei off for a few moves, right...?’
Jee Zhiheng thought that as long as Jiang Yifan wasn’t instantly defeated, the three of them could surround Yu Fei and beat the crap out of him.
’He was one-shotted?’ *3
Seeing Jiang Yifan fall, Feng Shuhao became furious and sped up again, still rushing to the scene.
Hu Fang’s eyes narrowed as she pondered.
’I can’t let him get away. I have to stick to him.’
So she decisively sped up in pursuit.
"Damn it!"
Jee Zhiheng was frustrated. If he hadn’t run just now, he might have been able to tie Yu Fei down by engaging him for a bit.
After knocking out Jiang Yifan, Yu Fei didn’t pause for a moment. He used the momentum from their clash to charge toward Jee Zhiheng.
Behind him, Hu Fang’s belated punch hit nothing but air.
Jee Zhiheng had intended to skirmish for a bit, but he hadn’t expected Yu Fei to be faster and his punches more accurate.
This time, Yu Fei fully circulated his Yin Stream Shattered Jade. The instant he made contact with Jee Zhiheng’s arm, he shattered his Qi Blood, then drove a knee into his chest, neutralizing him. He then grabbed him by the back of his waist and threw him toward Feng Shuhao.
"Fuck!"
Feng Shuhao’s face contorted as he watched Jee Zhiheng fly toward him, his rage evaporating in an instant.
He couldn’t just ignore him and charge through. With his build, he would probably break Jee Zhiheng’s bones!
The kind-hearted Feng Shuhao quickly slowed down and caught Mr. Ji.
Yu Fei seized the opportunity, stepped forward with a leg sweep to trip Feng Shuhao, and followed up with an elbow to the kidney.
Feng Shuhao immediately clutched his lower back, writhing on the ground in pain.
Then, Yu Fei got up and grinned at Hu Fang, revealing his shiny back molars.
Hu Fang’s scalp went numb. She turned and ran.
"Damn! They’re all useless teammates!"
She was so angry she couldn’t help but curse. She never thought that in the blink of an eye, her three teammates would be picked off one by one by the cunning Yu Fei. They were so stupid!
Especially Jee Zhiheng and Jiang Yifan. They charged when they should have retreated and ran when they should have fought. If even one of them had used their brain, they would have had a fighting chance.
The path of martial arts is a gradual process; being even a little bit stronger is still being stronger. Yu Fei’s muscle tempering was nearly eighty percent complete, while Hu Fang’s was less than twenty. Her physical attributes were inferior in every aspect.
This game of cat and mouse didn’t last long. Hu Fang was soon forced into a corner, and in her desperation, she resolutely fought back.
With his sevenfold enhanced neural reaction speed, Yu Fei could see every micro-expression on Hu Fang’s face.
Despair, resentment, unwillingness, resolve!
He took a moment to appreciate it, then used a shoulder throw to embed Hu Fang into the training ground floor.
"Damn!"
Yu Fei heard Hu Fang’s final battle cry!
’Ah, that felt good! So satisfying!’
It was true that happiness doesn’t disappear, it just gets transferred! After beating up his companions, Yu Fei was in a great mood!
A little later, with Yan Sea’s help, Jiang Yifan and the others recovered, looking dejected and grimy.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk~"
Yan Sea was dressed in a simple black training uniform, with "Nanguan Second Middle School" embroidered in red on the chest.
Looking at the discouraged students, Yan Sea said mockingly:
"A four-on-one, and you still got your faces shoved in the dirt. Sigh~"
Yan Sea tapped his teaching baton against his palm again and again. He pursed his lips and stared at them without speaking, his eyes full of disdain!
The students grew even more ashamed, unconsciously looking down at their shoelaces.
"Where are your brains? And you’re supposed to be the prodigies of our Nanguan Second Middle School?"
"Where was your teamwork?"
"Think hard about your strengths and weaknesses! For the next class, hand in an 800-word tactical reflection. You’ll fight again."
Hearing they had to write a self-criticism essay, the four of them looked absolutely miserable!
"Yu Fei, come with me!"
Yu Fei immediately scurried after Yan Sea like an eager bootlicker.
"Here! Your reward came in. I collected it for you!
Vitality Elixirs,
and one standard unit of Bone Tempering Liquid, 200ml."
Yu Fei was overjoyed. Who would have thought that a small report back then could yield such a huge reward?
Before Yu Fei could say thank you, Yan Sea continued:
"The reward originally arranged for you was 50 Vitality Elixirs, but 30 of them were exchanged for Bone Tempering Liquid."
After saying this, Yan Sea paused, watching him with a faint smile, not saying another word.
Yu Fei was taken aback and began to think.
’Fifty Vitality Elixirs would probably have been enough for me to reach the Blood Gate. But as a senior in martial arts, Yan Sea must have had other considerations! Besides, the Bone Tempering Liquid he mentioned is probably much more valuable.’
Thinking of this, Yu Fei immediately bowed to Yan Sea.
"Thank you, Teacher!"
Yan Sea snorted lightly and said:
"Let me explain its use first, so you don’t underestimate its value. Bone Tempering Liquid, as the name implies, is used in the cultivation of the Bone Gate. A couple of years ago, those guys at the Shenjing Research Institute discovered that even when the Bone Gate is considered ’perfected’ by traditional methods, it’s not truly complete.
Among the five gates of the first realm of martial arts, the Muscle Gate takes the longest, the Blood Gate is the most dangerous, and the Bone Gate is the most difficult!
The difficulty lies in the fact that ordinary methods can’t thoroughly temper the bone marrow. And once Body Tempering reaches the marrow, the body begins a qualitative transformation. This process usually takes about a week, making it very hard to strengthen it any further.
Everyone used to do it this way, so it didn’t seem to matter. But according to the latest findings published by the research institute, if you use Spirit Tempering Liquid with special tools and techniques after reaching ’bone tempering perfection’ in the conventional sense, you can induce a further qualitative change in the bone marrow.
In the end, a Martial Artist’s Qi Blood can be increased by thirty percent."
