I Carry a Game World With Me
Chapter 73: How Come We’re Raiding Their Base?
After leaving the gas distribution point, Lu Feng went online to look for rental listings.
The apartment he had rented before had too much foot traffic. Moving gas canisters in but never out would easily attract attention if he did it too many times.
Therefore, renting a more secluded warehouse would allow him to avoid such trouble.
After spending some time, he found a warehouse for rent in the suburbs. Its remote location perfectly suited his needs.
Lu Feng immediately called the landlord to arrange a meeting, rented the warehouse, and then sent its location to Master Lin.
Before long, Master Lin arrived in a small truck, which was loaded to the brim with gas canisters.
However, the small truck couldn’t haul all 60 canisters at once. Master Lin had to make three trips to bring them all over, after which he helped move them into the warehouse.
Master Lin had also marked the 10 modified gas canisters and placed them in a separate area.
Lu Feng then gave his instructions, "Master Lin, from now on, just put the modified gas canisters in this warehouse. I’ll come get them myself when I need them."
"Alright!" Master Lin nodded, then added, "But Mr. Lu, you need to pay first. The distribution point has to restock 60 canisters at 200 yuan each, which is 12,000. Plus, renting this truck is 200 for the day. That comes to a total of 12,200 yuan."
Lu Feng smiled at his words. He wasn’t about to be stingy over this amount, especially since it was what his cousin had already agreed to.
He decided to just round up and transferred 20,000 yuan to Master Lin.
After all, the gas canisters Master Lin modified were highly effective. He could consider it a bonus.
After receiving the 20,000 yuan, Master Lin couldn’t help but glance at Lu Feng.
He didn’t think Boss Lu had made a mistake with the transfer.
After all, it was impossible to be so ridiculously mistaken between 12,200 and 20,000.
The extra amount was clearly a deliberate tip from Boss Lu.
’This boss is generous.’
With that in mind, Master Lin accepted the money without any ceremony and drove off in his small truck.
Anyway, he had an agreement with Brother Ming: he would take every penny he was owed, but he wouldn’t ask what this Boss Lu planned to do with the gas canisters.
Even if something happened, he would just say he had never met this Boss Lu.
That was the code of the streets.
...
Lu Feng closed the warehouse door, locked it from the inside, and then used his detection watch to scan the area.
It was his first time renting this warehouse, and it would be a huge hassle if someone had left behind a camera or some other device.
After the detection watch finished its scan, a full schematic of the warehouse appeared on his smart glasses.
Once he confirmed there were no issues, he finally relaxed. He grabbed two gas canisters and, with a mere thought, entered the game’s vault.
Seeing Lu Feng appear with two gas canisters, everyone in the vault turned to look. But before they could react, Lu Feng had already willed himself out of the game, reappearing in the real-world warehouse.
Then, he entered the game again, carrying two more gas canisters.
He repeated this process over and over. As Lin Jiao, Xu Bin, and the others watched in amazement, the number of gas canisters in the vault steadily increased.
Seeing this kind of object for the first time, Wang Cheng asked curiously, "What is this?"
He was amazed, watching Lu Feng disappear and reappear, bringing two of these things with him each time.
Xu Bin offered a simple explanation: "This stuff can easily kill Mutant Beasts. Just a few of them can wipe out an army of several hundred zombies."
He vividly remembered the horrifying scene he’d witnessed at the Department Store. And now, the boss had brought out so many of these things.
Wang Cheng’s face was a mask of astonishment.
He knew how formidable Mutant Beasts were. ’Can this canister really kill a Mutant Beast that easily?’ he wondered.
A short while later, the bank vault was packed to the brim with gas canisters.
Just then, Lin Jiao came forward with a map. "Boss," she reported, "I’ve found the Zhuangyuan District you mentioned. It’s right here."
Lu Feng glanced at the map. Lin Jiao had marked the location of Zhuangyuan District within the Cangshan District and drawn a route from their current position at the bank.
Zhuangyuan District was located north of the Department Store.
Xu Bin immediately asked, "Boss, now that we know where the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps’ base is, are we going to go blow them up? The only problem is that it’ll be a pain to transport all these canisters."
But Lu Feng shook his head. "I’m changing the plan," he said. "I’ve gathered some intel. I hear the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps has a very nice base, much better than ours. It even includes an entire residential district."
"So, my plan is to use this bank as a trap. We’ll lure the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps here, wipe them out, and then we’ll take their base for ourselves."
Lin Jiao, Xu Bin, and the others were all stunned by this, unable to immediately process their boss’s sudden change of plans.
’Just a moment ago, we were worried about them attacking us, and now the boss is planning to take over their base?’
But as they looked at the countless gas canisters, Lin Jiao and the others felt an inexplicable surge of confidence.
They had all witnessed their power, after all.
Lin Jiao instinctively asked, "Boss, what do we do?"
"Since those two men didn’t return, the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps is bound to come looking. The first place they’ll check is where those two were killed," Lu Feng said, walking out of the bank and heading straight for the location where he had killed the two mercenaries.
The Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps would track them down using the location of the pulse-rupture chips’ final detonation, which means they would show up here first.
Once he arrived at the location, Lu Feng exited the game with another thought.
Back in the real-world warehouse, there were still six gas canisters remaining.
Of these six canisters, one was rigged, while the other five were full but otherwise normal.
Then, he brought all six of these gas canisters into the game and said to Lin Jiao, "Find a good spot and set these up."
’Since those two members didn’t return, the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps will send someone to investigate. They won’t send everyone at once; it’ll probably be one or two squads at most.’
’If I can eliminate this first wave, the rest of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps is sure to come in full force. That’s when I’ll use the bank as a trap and wipe them all out.’
’So, before any of that, I have to eliminate the scouts first.’
Lin Jiao immediately understood Lu Feng’s plan. She led her team to scout the area and quickly found a suitable location: the lobby of a nearby building.
After they had set up the gas canisters, Lin Jiao and her people concealed themselves. Meanwhile, Lu Feng did a quick sweep, running through all the surrounding areas.
This was because any place he had physically been, he could later monitor through the game’s visual interface in his mind after logging out.
After running through the whole area, Lu Feng logged out. By manipulating the game’s point of view, he found he could indeed survey the entire surrounding region.
Now, all he had to do was constantly check the game’s display and wait for the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps to show up.
He positioned his viewpoint at the end of a street that faced the direction of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps’ base.
If and when the enemy showed up, this was the most likely route they would take.
However, the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps seemed to be slow to react; half a day passed with no movement whatsoever.
Instead, he got a call from Da Fei while he was in the warehouse.
He answered, and Da Fei’s report came through: "Young Master Feng, I’m about to set off for Tianzhou City. I’ll be taking Lin Qian and Chen Hai with me to run the tea business."
"I’ve asked Brother Ming to send a trustworthy man to look after the tea factory here in Youcheng. I’m making that girl, Xiaoling, the manager of the Qingfeng Tea House. I’ll take Xiaoyao and two other girls with me to Tianzhou City."
"Okay, you handle the arrangements," Lu Feng said with a nod. "Once you get to Tianzhou City and find a suitable location for a Tea City, tell me. I’ll transfer the money."
Da Fei’s voice immediately came back, "Young Master Feng, I’ve been making inquiries the last couple of days. There are a lot of Tea Cities in Tianzhou City, and some are up for sale. If we can take over an existing one, that would be the fastest way to get on track with selling Qingfeng Tea."
"Fine, you take care of it," Lu Feng said without objection. After all, he had already agreed to let his cousin, Da Fei, Chen Bo, and the others invest in the Tea City venture.
Da Fei was definitely eager to make money, so he would surely choose the best option. Lu Feng didn’t need to worry about it.
After hanging up, Lu Feng resumed his watch. But by evening, there was still no sign of the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps.
He hadn’t eaten lunch, though, and his stomach began to rumble.
He had just opened the warehouse door and was getting into his car to grab a bite to eat when his eyes shot to the game screen in his mind. At the far end of the street, a hovering truck had appeared.
The front of the truck was emblazoned with a spray-painted, menacing gray wolf’s head.
It was clear: the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps had arrived.
"Damn it, they just had to show up when I was about to eat," Lu Feng grumbled in annoyance. He hastily got out of his car, went back into the warehouse, locked the door from the inside, and entered the game with a thought.
As soon as he appeared in the game, Lu Feng raised his hand to give a signal.
Hiding in the shadows, Lin Jiao and her team immediately went on alert. A moment later, they all spotted the hovering truck in the distance.
Lin Jiao and her team were amazed. Their boss always seemed to know everything in advance. Whenever he vanished using his special ability, they never knew where he went, but it was as if he was somehow able to monitor the Gray Wolf Mercenary Corps’ every move.
A few moments later, the hovering truck reached the spot where the two Gray Wolf mercenaries had been killed.
