Chapter 39: Hardcore

Luna and Ken bolted out of the house after he managed to get his mother to calm down. They met up with Sierra, who was at the forest.

"What’s the issue?" Ken asked as soon as they arrived.

"The demonic human army, they have arrived," she said.

"What?" Luna exclaimed.

"They were not meant to be here for another few days," Ken replied.

"Yeah, it seems your informant must have lied about that," she replied. "They are a few hours out, which means they’ll be here soon. My lady has already informed us on what to do. Elves have made their stands in the trees and are ready. Foot soldiers are also in the mix and will obey me," Sierra explained. Then she grabbed the second sword on her waist and handed it to Ken.

"This is for you."

Ken took the sword. He pulled it from the sheath and instantly he was stunned. The blade was a beautiful black with patterns, like the Damascus blades he knew from Earth. But these were far stronger, he could tell.

It was extremely lightweight even with the strength. With it, he would be able to fight a lot faster.

"Lady Luna, you are to head back to the village and take shelter with your mother," Sierra turned to Luna and said. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶

"Not happening, I’m not leaving Ken’s..."

"This is not an option, Lady Luna. Your mother has made it clear that you have no part in this and as such, you must return," Sierra said in a stern voice.

Luna clenched her fist tight. She knew that when Sierra got like this, then it was very serious.

"Fine," she muttered in anger, looking at Ken one more time, and then she rushed back home.

Sierra watched until she was out of sight.

"Let’s go," she said and dashed in one direction. Ken followed behind, keeping pace with her.

"Is there anything I should know about these demonic humans?" Ken asked.

"Hmm, their demonic magic or arts are very, very powerful. For what it’s worth, don’t let one hit you. Not only does it have the first effect, it also has the curse-type effect tied to it.

You have to be fast and execute them very fast. No shred of mercy, no time to think. Let your body and instinct to kill do all the talking.

The moment you stop, you lose. I do not know if you have been in a life-or-death battle before, but this is one, and a very terrifying one at that.

We can only hope that they sent only their low-ranked here, else what we have prepared might not be enough."

Ken listened to every word that she said. He understood the gravity of the fight that was about to take place. This would be the biggest fight he had engaged in so far.

[System online, upgrade completed.]

While they ran, the system came online.

"Finally," Ken muttered. He didn’t bother to check what the upgrade gave, now was not the time for that.

They made it through the forest very fast and caught up to the ground army of elves that were there, at least a hundred elves on the ground and nearly two hundred in the trees above.

Numbers were definitely not in their favor, but territorial advantage was.

"Commander, the enemies are a few minutes out now," one of the elves in fully decked armor stepped forward and spoke.

"That means we move now. Fifty of you will come along with me, while the rest split into two and flank from the sides. The archers take whoever they can down.

Also, where are the mages?"

"They have hidden as you instructed."

"Good, let’s move out."

As soon as she was done, she looked at Ken. "You are with me, let’s go."

Ken walked up to her side, the only person with no armor on. She looked at him and that was an issue, but there was sadly no time for anything.

This was his battle and they were supporting.

They moved ahead and not long after, Ken could see the army ahead, numbering at least a thousand.

An army made of black, broken armor that had seen better days, worn by pale humans, elves, and even orcs, with eyes that glowed as red as the abyss.

The front rode on horses and other massive monster mounts. With them was a banner made of black, and on it were two horns depicted in the color of blood.

"So these are demonic humans," Ken muttered. He could feel their aura from the distance away. It was filled with bloodlust, thick and extremely heavy.

Ken took a deep breath, not out of fear, but rather to take his mind into the state where he matched the energy of the enemies.

Sierra looked at him. "These elves are about to risk their lives impromptu for you, some may even lose their lives, and this is all for the sake of taking the elves to the future, so fight like their lives matter. I know you can," she said to Ken.

He gave her a confident smile. "Of course, what else would I do?"

The army ahead saw the elves. They instantly knew someone was ready to fight them. The demonic human at the front lifted his sword into the air. He was seated on a black horned ringer monster, his armor looked very bulky.

The moment he raised his hand into the air, the entire army behind him stopped. He stared at Sierra and Ken for a few seconds, and he read from their eyes that they wanted to battle, so without hesitation, he pointed the sword down and instantly, the demonic humans behind him charged ahead.

For the first time since he arrived over a month ago, Ken was about to discover the reason this world, Orion, was considered a hardcore world.

Sierra lifted her sword as well and pointed forward. Instantly, arrows ripped from the sky above and into the midst of the demonic humans, each one fast and laced with explosive spells at the tip.

The scene that followed was devastating.
