Chapter 25: What the Girls Saw
As soon as Kamishiro jumped off, Kiki and Eri quickly shook in alarm.
"WhiteGod?!"
"Oh no...!"
They stretched their hands forward, but they were too late to pull him back. Kamishiro ran so fast the two couldn’t believe it was the same person who kept standing in place whenever they were fighting!
"Focus!" Miyabi called. "Trust WhiteGod to handle himself. Instead, we should focus on what’s in front of us!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Ram had already arrived at their location. She quickly turned around, waving her sword and raising her shield.
Before them was now a crowd of over a hundred monsters raring to kill them all.
If they kept worrying about Kamishiro instead of the situation in their hands, they’d surely end up succumbing to the violence of numbers. Having no choice, they quickly moved back to their positions, readying their weapons, preparing to fight a deadly battle.
"Ram, Gwen, focus on holding back the left and right. Me and Kristal will hold up front!" Miyabi commanded fast. "Don’t let any monster take a step past our line of defense and reach GentleBreeze!"
The chat quietly turned transparent, the bubbles barely visible without focusing on them.
Nothing could distract them now.
Four girls handled the frontline, swinging their weapons almost endlessly. Even a random slash would hit something—most of the time even landing a critical.
CRITICAL!
694!!!
182!
1,010!!!
593!!!
Even without Kamishiro’s flag buff, three out of four of them still managed to kill monsters in one strike. Only Kiki’s damage was too low to actually one-hit them, so her side was getting the most pressure out of all of them.
"Holy Light!"
Eri, seeing Kiki’s HP dropping fast, quickly cast a heal to bring her back up.
The problem was that she only had three healing skills right now. Juggling the cooldowns was barely enough to keep Kiki out of danger—but she was already at full capacity handling just one person.
If Miyabi or the two androids got injured, her healing output definitely wouldn’t be able to keep up.
Eri bit her lip, praying the other three didn’t need as much as Kiki did.
Thankfully, her hopes were answered.
"HAAAP!"
"HISSSS!"
Ram and Gwen were working with perfect precision.
Each strike took a life, each movement avoided taking damage entirely. Blocking attacks with minimal movement, dodging before the attack even start to head for them, keeping their HP full at all times.
Miyabi, too, was playing almost perfectly.
The day before, she kept dying to the monsters’ surprise attacks. But now, after long hours of mental image training and getting accustomed to the controls, Miyabi had basically reached her peak.
Her control was flawless. Each attack landed as a critical hit, and monster attacks were dodged by a step at most—cleared with the least movement required.
If Kamishiro was watching, he would’ve realized how Miyabi’s skills were slowly reaching where they’d been in the previous timeline.
"Sorry...!"
Still, even with three performing at their peak, Kiki’s side ended up becoming the weak point.
She got pushed back by a wave of monsters and ended up breaking formation.
The gap that opened was enough for wolves to rush in and reach Eri standing behind them. Their healer was now in danger!
"Sanctuary!"
But before it could all go downhill, Eri’s next skill managed to buy them time.
A pulse of white light blasted away the incoming monsters, creating a 10-meter zone around her where nothing could approach. Less of a barrier, more of a repulsion effect—pushing them all away at once.
"Quick! It won’t last long!" Eri shouted. "And it has a 5-minute cooldown!"
It was literally her lifesaving skill. A trump card. And now that she’d used it, given the intensity of the monster wave, there was no second time for Kiki.
The realization that she was becoming the team’s burden made her grit her teeth.
"Alright..." She whispered, taking a deep breath.
Her fists burst with flames once more—but this time, a pale white fire. Completely different from her earlier buff, changing the air around her. More mysterious, more intimidating.
"I’m giving my all from here!" She declared, grinning from ear to ear. "GentleBreeze, just focus on keeping my HP above zero!"
"Huh?!"
The reason for her words was simple.
Kiki’s class was the same as the others—a UR Class. Martial God. A class that balances both defense and offense.
And this buff wasn’t a simple one. It burned her own HP to double her attack speed and increase her damage output by 75%. Not much, but enough to let her burst down a monster’s HP in a single breath. Basically, a double-edged sword!
CRITICAL!
337!!!
328!!!
Her HP crawled downward slowly—slower than when she was getting hounded by the pack. Still fast enough that Eri could barely keep pace.
She needed two spells to keep her afloat, one held in reserve for emergencies.
The situation stabilized fast with all four frontliners finding their pace.
With this, as long as Kiki kept the buff running, she could keep her lane clean!
Time passed, and the defense held.
Within a minute, half the monsters were culled, easing the pressure on everyone enough to allow them to steal glances at Kamishiro’s side.
Miyabi expected it.
But Kiki and Eri couldn’t believe their eyes.
True to his words, Kamishiro was holding the boss off alone.
His HP was still full. So was his MP. But his SP was getting dangerously low—obvious from how fast he was moving. Fast enough that Kiki found herself wondering if he really had a backline class at all, regardless whether UR or not.
And then, coincidentally, all three of them watched as Kamishiro’s footing faltered.
He tripped on a stone hidden under the grass.
Even without seeing it clearly, they could tell he’d made some kind of mistake. And a fatal one at that.
"WhiteGod...!" Miyabi shouted fast, already moving to help—
SLASH!
His figure disappeared inside the boss’s maw.
...No.
He reappeared behind it, leaving a pale blue trail like the flash of a crescent moon, a long red gash across the wolf’s fur. The damage was negligible—barely a pixel on its thick HP bar—but damage all the same.
"What... was that?" Kiki whispered, unable to look away. "Teleportation? Shukuchi?! What the hell, that was so cool...!"
Kamishiro was an Android Meister. His skills should’ve leaned toward leading others and applying buffs. A direct movement-plus-damage skill like what he just used wasn’t something that class came by easily.
Even Miyabi lost focus for a moment, unable to process what she’d just seen.
She’d been with Kamishiro since the very start, and he’d never once shown her a skill like that!
’A new skill? When did he learn it?’ She wondered—right as a monster lunged at her.
Distracted, she took a glancing hit. Her HP dropped to half instantly. Paper defense, same as always. But she didn’t let it swing again.
"Iai Slash!"
She drew and cut in one motion, taking the Grass Wolf’s head clean off.
Simple skill, not flashy, but effective.
Comparing it to what Kamishiro had just pulled off, she couldn’t help but frown. "I want a cool skill with flashy effects like that too..."
The girls pushed through the rest and wrapped everything up in another minute.
Two minutes total, over a hundred monsters cleared. It’s definitely several times faster than their usual pace. Their levels each rose by one, HP, SP, and MP restored in full.
But the fight was far from over.
"Let’s go help WhiteGod!" Miyabi declared, already running forward.
Though before she could, both Ram and Gwen had already made a beeline to where Kamishiro was. She and the other two could only chase after their backs.
Within moments, they were in range.
"Finally done?" Kamishiro, seeing them approach, smiled. "Took less time than I thought. Good work."
As he said that, he took a wide jump back, letting Ram move into point.
She raised her shield without missing a beat, catching the boss’s next swipe.
The boss’s buff had already run out, so even up close there was no risk of DoT from the wind blades. Kamishiro wouldn’t have let Ram get that close otherwise.
"I’ll hold back until my SP is full again. After that, I’m taking the front." He commanded, pulling the flag from inventory and planting it firmly into the grass. "For now, just chip away at the Field Boss while preserving your SP and MP!"
With Ram up front absorbing the hits, the girls had room to breathe.
Gwen worked the wolf’s flank, slashing every opening she found—around 500 damage each time. Miyabi matched that roughly, and Kiki was pushing "almost" triple digits herself now without her buff.
Kamishiro watched them for a moment, then turned to Eri.
"GentleBreeze, shift your heals to Ram. She’ll take a hit soon."
Strange words, spoken with complete confidence. Eri observed the wolf, but there’s no such signs at all. Although confused, Eri followed his instruction and waited.
About 10 seconds later, the boss’s attack speed spiked.
"GROOOOWL!"
Two swipes came in simultaneously, sending Ram’s shield flying. Her HP dropped by a quarter instantly, draining the color from everyone’s faces.
"Great Heal!"
But the very next instant, Eri’s heal landed and Ram’s HP shot back to full.
Perfectly timed. Almost eerily so.
Eri turned to look at Kamishiro, the one who predicted what would happen before it did. Her expression caught between several feelings she hadn’t quite sorted out yet.
A faint shadow of doubt colored her eyes.
’Did he really predict this would happen...? How?’
