Infinite Skin System: Starting as An Eldritch Knight
Chapter 123: Cards of Destiny
Destiny Deck. An 81 cards deck with five different frames.
Fire cards. Wind cards. Rock cards. Water cards. And grass cards.
Each card represented a certain premonition into the future. Fire for violence. Wind for journey. Rock for obstacles. Water for resources. And grass for growth.
Carter took out a card and saw. It had green vines on its border and absolutely blank image in the middle. It didn’t show anything because Carter hadn’t prophesied anything yet.
He placed the card back down and left the deck on the ground.
"Show me where I can find my Guardian, Destiny."
A white aura exuded from her and wrapped around the deck. It floated up and shuffled itself before dropping back down.
The deck spread itself. Four cards glowed mysteriously under the sunlight.
Carter took four of those cards out and placed them separately. The first card burned fiercely.
’First, the fire card.’
Carter flipped it over. The image on the card showed a burning ship on a large river. There were people on there. People that were dying.
The second card had a little cyclone twirling on it.
’Second, the wind card.’
He flipped it over. The image showed a giant black dragon curling on top of a miniaturized city.
The third card had a rain droplet that shimmered gently on top.
’Third, the water card.’
He flipped the card over. The image showed a man holding a shield in front of a white-haired girl, probably the Shrine Maiden.
The fourth card was hardened and had rock edges around it.
Fourth, the rock card.
He flipped the card over. A heart made of stone lay in the middle of the image.
The fifth card had grass growing on the back of it.
Fifth, the grass card.
He flipped the card over. In the image, the Shrine Maiden appeared again, she was holding the heart of stone which had half of it returning back to flesh.
The card didn’t show the truth directly. But with all the skills the Shrine Maiden had, Carter knew what to do.
The card returned to normal. All the elemental projections disappeared along with the image.
The deck returned to his hand.

’This skin is rather easy to figure out. A fortune teller needs to tell fortune.’
’As for the readings, it does not directly point me to a direction. But I can understand what it’s trying to say.’
The second card was a black dragon. It didn’t mean that her new ’pet’ was going to be a dragon. Instead, it was pointing to Jado. The New Dragon of Arashi was Tenka Ryuja, leader of Jado.
If he wanted to find his Guardian, he must continue his journey to Jado.
’Clear enough.’ Carter stood up.
Shrine Maiden had no offensive ability on her own. But Carter still had his own ability.
The thick red aura of Awaken Adrenaline wrapped around the blinded Maiden. Carter bolted forward.
He wasn’t as fast as when he used the Silver Invoker or the Eldritch Knight because Shrine Maiden own speed was very low.
Carter only ran for a few steps before stopping. He had to stop because the package on his chest was going wild.
’Ugh... Women. Luckily this was only cosmetics and not permanent.’
Carter used Ghost Clothes to make a few adjustments to his Hakama. He wrapped his chest in special bandages that kept his package tight and firm.
Then he fired up Adrenaline and bolted away again. This time, they didn’t go haywire.
’Much better.’
Carter’s journey got him to a few villages near the desert. He turned off Adrenaline and walked to the villages by feet every time.
The people reacted to him much better than when he wore Silver Invoker. His soft demeanor combined with that otherworldly beauty smoothed many hidden layers of societal judgments.
They also treated him better because they thought he was blind.
He asked the villagers directions and would stop briefly to rest before continuing. Hideo’s gift was good enough to provide Carter with his travel fees.
He also did future readings a few times for money. He only did it for unique people with an interesting characters that may come in important later. Most wouldn’t in his honest opinion.
On the third day, Carter had left the desert and the area surrounding Sabaku Village. He went slowly and only used Shrine Maiden. If he used other skin, he would have gone faster.
He deliberately went slow to learn more about this world. He also got hold of someone that knew how to read in the last three days and stole their language knowledge. Another 199 Prime coins were lost.
Carter stopped by the first lush village that was covered by tree.
It had a very beautiful tavern with bamboo growing around it. Carter stopped by to enjoy the local tea and cuisine while listening in to the conversation of bystanders.
"Did you hear? Lord Oda just destroyed the last remnant of the second prince."
"The second prince was a fool. Not even Ryuja dares to attack Lord Oda’s armada."
"You visited Kinue Citadel yet? The brothel there is sublime!"
"No way, man! Lord Regent really has lost his mind. He shouldn’t push prostitution like that."
"Psssh! Are you trying to get yourself killed? Don’t ever talk about Lord Busujima like that!"
Carter continued to sip his tea in silence. His Echolocation told him many things. Like the men that glanced at him from times to times. And the whispers about him.
"Damn... Look at that girl. Who is she?"
"Is she some kind of monk? Never see that before." 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮
"Is she blind?"
An armed group of men entered the tavern. They appeared to be soldiers. They spotted Carter immediately. The man in front of the group approached her.
"Ho! Where are you going, baby?" The man sat down without asking for permission.
The vibe of the entire tavern was brought down. People avoided looking over to Carter’s direction.
Carter continued to sip in silence.
"Mute? That’s better. You won’t scream when I break you then." The soldier reached his hand toward Carter.
A man of another table stood up, he was about to intervene but what happened made him freeze in place.
