Infinite Train Survival Apocalypse (But I'm a Girl Now?!)
Chapter 39: Forming a Team
Bai Cheng was stunned, hardly believing her eyes.
"It must be a coincidence. If it’s really her, how could she...?"
She searched her memories for information about her best friend, but most of it was... not safe for work.
Her lips twitched. "Well, this is definitely something she’d do."
Since the exchange only showed names and no profile pictures, Bai Cheng had to search again in the channel.
After typing in the name, what popped up were the dazzling words[Pioneer Yu Nian], along with a profile picture of a familiar face framed by wavy, pink hair parted in a three-seven ratio.
That delicate face was unforgettable. She had peach-blossom eyes, a faintly upturned smile, and an air of mischief.
With such distinctive features and a face Bai Cheng knew all too well, she was absolutely certain.
This is the Yu Nian I know!
"Poor girl," Bai Cheng muttered. For a moment, she was unsure whether to be thrilled at having a reliable partner or to sigh at the fact that Yu Nian had also ended up in this damned world.
But it seemed that Yu Nian had a Talent as well. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have earned the Pioneer title.
Which only made Bai Cheng even more confused.
If you’re strong, why are you selling your socks??
She couldn’t imagine anyone having such a bizarre hobby.
Well, if it’s Yu Nian, it might be possible...
Looking back on her memories, Bai Cheng had only two words to describe her best friend:
Heaven-defying!
Bai Cheng had gone through the experience of turning into a girl, but she seriously suspected that Yu Nian was the one with a male soul trapped in a female body.
Of course, aside from being a little too fond of Bai Cheng’s body, Yu Nian was still dependable.
The two had grown up together in an orphanage, and as the only two girls in their batch, they were as close as sisters.
Bai Cheng wasn’t sure when their relationship had started to shift, but she suspected that it had something to do with Yu Nian’s work environment.
After all, in a long-term, all-female environment, certain tendencies were bound to develop.
As the trade offer in front of her was suddenly snapped up, Bai Cheng snapped back to reality.
She wasn’t surprised that some perverts had bought them, even at a high price.
But what did shock her was that, mere seconds later, Yu Nian had listed another trade order.
[Trader: Yu Nian]
[Item: One pair of worn white seamless socks.]
[Requirement: Iron ingot ×5]
"You have MORE?!" Bai Cheng was stunned. When people transmigrated, only the clothes on their bodies came with them, while personal items like phones and necklaces disappeared.
"Who the hell wears two pairs of socks at once?!"
A sudden curiosity rose in Bai Cheng.
Could these things have special effects like my clothes?
Well, it’s not expensive. Might as well buy a pair and see!
Plus, this could be a way to get Yu Nian’s attention.
Speaking of which, although they were practically inseparable in the past, Bai Cheng realized that she hadn’t spoken a single word to Yu Nian since becoming a girl.
For Bai Cheng, interacting with girls was troublesome enough, and she wasn’t sure if Yu Nian would notice anything off about her.
She didn’t have any particular thoughts about Yu Nian, but humans are social creatures, and Yu Nian is a trustworthy partner.
"That feeling of meeting your best bro while surviving in another world—who can understand that?"
"Wait, no. It’s bestie."
Bai Cheng completed the trade, and a pair of small white socks appeared at the bottom of the screen.
She pinched them between two fingers, holding them up to the light for inspection. They were slightly yellowed and carried a faint sour smell, definitely worn.
But no matter how she looked at them, they were just... ordinary socks.
Now, Bai Cheng was certain that these were definitely for perverts!
"What the hell? Is she planning to make a fortune off of this?" She was baffled, but mostly just exasperated.
Dropping the socks, Bai Cheng crossed her arms and stood in front of the screen, waiting quietly for a response.
Sure enough, Yu Nian soon started spamming.
"OH MY GOSH! Little Cheng, it’s really you!!"
"I knew that even after transmigrating, we’d still end up together!"
"Wahhh, I was so worried you wouldn’t survive after transmigrating, but seeing your title put my mind at ease!"
"My Little Cheng is still as amazing as ever. How is it? Do you miss your Mommy?"
[Pioneer Yu Nian has sent you a team invitation! Would you like to accept?]
Seeing the message and the prompt, Bai Cheng didn’t immediately click [Accept].
The corner of her lips twitched. She needed to confirm something first.
Bai Cheng: "Is there anyone else in your team?"
Yu Nian: "You hesitated. YOU HESITATED! You don’t love me anymore, do you? Fine. I’ll bear this pain alone..."
Bai Cheng: "Be serious..."
Yu Nian: "Haven’t found anyone suitable yet. Besides you, I haven’t met a single familiar face all these days. Teaming up with strangers is just too risky."
Hearing this, Bai Cheng relaxed.
"Looks like she’s not dumb."
Bai Cheng: "The biggest flaw of the team function is trust. Teaming up recklessly with strangers means a high chance of betrayal, so unless you fully trust someone, don’t team up."
Yu Nian: "I know, I know! I’m not that clueless!"
Bai Cheng understood all too well that in this train survival world, human treachery was far more dangerous than magical beasts.
Instead of accepting Yu Nian’s invitation right away, she created her own team and sent an invite back.
The team leader didn’t have any special privileges over team members, but at least this way, Bai Cheng could ensure that no strangers would be added.
Of course, with her current strength, Bai Cheng had no fear of being backstabbed by a teammate.
In a lawless world where survival of the fittest ruled, power was everything.
Yu Nian instantly accepted the team invitation, and the screen soon displayed her basic information.
[Train Conductor: Pioneer Yu Nian]
[Current Level: Common Rank 1]
[Train Level: Lv.1 Steam Train]
It was a very simple template, and details like her employees or talent remained hidden.
[Tip: To arrive at the same station, team members must precisely coordinate their arrival time within a one-hour window.]
Bai Cheng had just been wondering about this when the prompt appeared, clearing up her confusion.
But before she could share the information with Yu Nian, two more notifications popped up.
