Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Brewing Medicine

She still had some knowledge about the medicine that Zhou Wanruo had given her. It could bring down the fever caused by severe wounds.

Subconsciously she peeked into the kitchen. There was no one there. After some hesitation, she decided to use the herbs given by Zhou Wanruo. š’‡š“»š“®š“®š™¬š™šš’ƒš’š“øš™«š’†š™”.š“¬š“øš’Ž

In order to make sure it wasn’t poisonous, she would drink the decoction herself before giving it to her second brother.

The entire time, her heart was pounding wildly, expecting someone to suddenly enter the kitchen and questioning what she was doing. With their mother’s temper, she knew that Zhou Anran wouldn’t accept anything from their uncle’s family.

However... this time their second brother really needed it.

She would just use the medicine package for now, then report later and accept the punishment.

A few minutes felt like years. After what seemed like eternity, she finally poured down the medicine decoction to a bowl and washed the pot clean, waiting for the temperature to cool down.

Her eyes kept on glancing at the door. Immense relief washed over her as she was finally done with the decoction. She brought it to her second brother’s room.

Xiao Yuxi was busy bathing Xiao Qingya.

Xiao Yuyan wondered where her mother was. She glanced outside, and soon found her figure. Zhou Anran was surrounded by a few concerned aunties.

The moment she walked inside her brother’s room, she was taken aback when she saw Xiao Fenghao. His eyes had opened.

"Second Brother?" She asked in a hesitant tone.

It took Xiao Fenghao a while to react. He stiffly turned his head to her, his eyes filled with daze.

He wasn’t fully conscious.

Xiao Yuyan touched his forehead, carefully avoiding the bruise and swelling. His body’s temperature had started to go up.

"Yan’er..." he muttered in a delirious tone.

She pursed her lips, and her eyes fell on the bowl on her hands. Her fingers trying to guess the temperature. It has already cooled down a lot.

"Second Brother, open your mouth," she ordered in a firm tone, placing the bowl to his mouth.

She had tried the medicine before even though it scalded her tongue. This medicine was safe. She also made sure that all the herbs were familiar.

The herbs were actually quite rare and expensive...

Xiao Fenghao didn’t resist. He opened his mouth slowly. However, as soon as the bitter medicine spread to his mouth, he unconsciously frowned.

Fortunately, she was already prepared. Xiao Yuyan held her second brother’s mouth. In his current weakened state, he was no match for her.

After all of the struggle, Xiao Fenghao finally drank the bitter bowl of medicine. Before he vomited the whole thing out of his stomach again, Xiao Yuyan poured some water into his mouth, which alleviated the bitter taste.

Not long after, Xiao Fenghao fell unconscious again.

Xiao Yuyan wiped the sweat from her forehead, collapsing on the ground tiredly. She hid the medicine bowl, feeling slightly guilty.

When the night came, they already expected that Xiao Fenghao would suffer from fever. They all coaxed the delirious teenager to drink some congee and watched over him all night.

"How is it, Mother?" Xiao Yuxi asked after Zhou Anran put her palm on her son’s forehead.

"The temperature isn’t too bad," Zhou Anran muttered, frowning slightly. She pursed her lips and still couldn’t figure it out even after a while. "Tomorrow, we will go get Physician Li to check on your second brother."

Xiao Yuyan clenched her fist. "Second Brother is strong. He will recover soon..."

Nestled in her eldest sister’s lap, Xiao Qingya supported her chin with her hands listlessly. She had been bugging the System, and yet until now, they had no solution.

[Host, our points are still insufficient for any recovery medicine right now. Your brother’s state seems to be better after your mother brewed a medicine for him.]

Xiao Qingya gave up pestering the System and fell asleep after dinner.

The next morning, Xiao Yuxi woke up early and squatted down in front of Physician Li’s house, waiting rather impatiently. Someone invited her into the house, but she refused.

Her eyes were glued to the path where the ox cart bringing Physician Li back from the town would appear.

Physician Li didn’t disappoint her. An hour later, he returned.

As soon as Physician Li stepped down from the ox cart, he was stunned seeing Xiao Yixi squatting down on his porch. His eyes twitched, filled with foreboding.

Why does this family always have someone falling sick?

His gaze became weary and he rubbed his temples. He hadn’t gotten enough sleep, and his plan to rest as soon as he arrived home was disturbed.

"Who else is getting sick this time?" Physician Li asked.

Xiao Yuxi jumped excitedly. She couldn’t wait to drag this old physician to her house. "It’s my brother. Please, save him, Physician Li!"

She proceeded to describe her brother’s condition. The more she talked, the deeper his frown became.

Physician Li entered the house to fetch something and soon came out again. He picked up his linen satchel the ox-cart driver had helped to unload.

"Lead the way, Xiao girl," Physician Li told her.

He followed Xiao Yuxi with his large steps, and in no time, they had arrived at the Xiao family’s house. Zhou Anran who heard the small commotion immediately went out to greet Physician Li.

Xiao Yuyan felt at a loss, and she bit her lip nervously before she entered Xiao Fenghao’s room, where her second brother was staring dazedly into the ceiling above.

He had woken up this morning as soon as his fever subsided, but his condition remained serious.

Zhou Anran briefly glanced at her second daughter, who was shrinking into the corner before she led Physician Li inside. Xiao Yuxi was a little puzzled.

What’s wrong with the atmosphere between her twin sister and mother?

"Physician Li, please. I am sorry we keep on troubling you," Zhou Anran muttered.

Physician Li shook his head politely. "It’s no trouble at all. By the way, I have something for you later, but let me check your son’s condition for now."
