This phenomenon only lessened as fewer humans inherited bloodlines with powerful Mutant Beast Genes.

’This soft fluff feels amazing.’ Ning Xuan was becoming addicted to stroking the little bird. Suddenly, its soft feathers all stood on end. Ning Xuan froze. Just then, she felt her blood begin to boil once more, and a storm of wind and thunder seemed to flash within it. The Little Red Bird let out an angry "CHIRP!" before dissolving into a ball of light that merged into her bloodstream.

’What’s going on? That felt like the precursor to a Companion Spirit awakening... but wasn’t the little bird *already* my Companion Spirit?’

Ning Xuan was completely bewildered. After the bird merged into her blood, the power brewing within it reverted to Fire Element Energy. The sound of wind and thunder from a moment ago was gone.

Her eyes and hair were pure black, but just a moment ago, he’d seen flames dancing within their dark depths. Her snow-white skin was flawless, her crimson lips as delicate as flower petals. She had become even more beautiful, but it was a beauty infused with a divinity that made him feel utterly inadequate.

’If she had been like this when we first met,’ he thought, ’I probably would never have had the courage to ask her to be my Contractor.’

"Don’t worry. My Companion Spirit must have awakened successfully," Ning Xuan told Chen Nan. "I need to go outside. I want to see what it is."

"Of course, Lord Contract Master. When shall we depart?" Chen Nan asked. He, too, was filled with anticipation, eager to find out what Level of Companion Spirit Ning Xuan had awakened.

’Judging from Little Jin’s reaction earlier, it has to be an Elite Level Companion Spirit, or maybe even higher!’
