Hearing Lin Xinghai’s question, Wan Jiasong seemed to realize he’d celebrated too soon.

He hesitated. "But the final tally shouldn’t be too bad, right?"

"Perhaps," Lin Xinghai said. "Let’s wait and see."

Another five minutes passed. Just then, Wan Jiasong initiated a communication.

"Captain Lin, good news! The casualty ratio for the entire battlefield is in. It’s 30-to-1! We have a massive advantage," Wan Jiasong said excitedly.

Lin Xinghai was surprised to hear that. A casualty ratio like that was indeed a huge advantage.

If they could maintain this rate, they could annihilate the 1.8 million-strong Zombie tide at the cost of only 60,000 Combat Robots.

Of course, the number of Zombies in the tide was still steadily increasing. But if they could maintain this momentum, their final Combat Robot losses probably wouldn’t exceed 70,000.

But this was just a projection based on the best-case scenario.

And Lin Xinghai knew that was almost impossible to achieve.

The Mutated Zombies were intelligent; they wouldn’t just stand by and watch this happen.

"Stay in close contact with the Military Department. Keep a constant watch on the battlefield, especially the Mutated Zombies. They’re the priority," Lin Xinghai said after a moment of silence.

Hearing Lin Xinghai’s warning, Wan Jiasong’s excitement quickly faded. He immediately agreed, promising to monitor all incoming intel.

The sounds of explosions, roaring engines, gunfire, and the shrieks of Zombies mingled, making the battle at the front line increasingly fraught.

Lin Xinghai gazed into the distance, seeing an endless sea of Zombies.

This tide of nearly two million Zombies was simply enormous. Even the Mutated Zombies couldn’t fully mobilize such a massive horde in an instant.

"It should be soon," Ye Feng murmured, his eyes fixed on the distance. "Once the tide is fully mobilized and attacking our position, the Mutated Zombies will be free to make their next move."

Time passed. Soon, another twenty minutes had gone by.

Half an hour had now passed since the battle began.

In that half hour, Outpost 108 had killed over 20,000 Zombies, but at the cost of more than 250 Combat Robots.

Their performance was, by far, leading every other outpost.

Perhaps because they had killed so many Zombies, the corpses piled up like small hills outside the first line of Defense. Naturally, this situation attracted the attention of the Mutated Zombies.

Outpost 108’s Zombie Detector was the first to pick up traces of the Mutated Zombies.

The outpost’s intelligence was synced with Lin Xinghai in near real-time, so when he saw the black dots representing Mutated Zombies appear on the detector, he couldn’t help but gasp.

A full 52 Mutated Zombies were moving toward their defensive line.

"Captain Lin, should we evacuate immediately?" Wan Jiasong had also spotted the situation and asked in a panic.

’Fifty-two Mutated Zombies...’ He couldn’t even imagine what a terrifying force that represented. If they attacked, the outpost wouldn’t stand a chance.

"Report this to the higher-ups immediately. Have the Military Department send reinforcements. Also, activate the Defense systems at Outpost 98 behind us. I’ll have the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps prepare for evacuation."

"However, I don’t think these Mutated Zombies will attack us personally. They’ll use other methods," Lin Xinghai said calmly.

On the other end, Wan Jiasong seemed to be infected by Lin Xinghai’s composure. He quickly calmed down and hurried to carry out the orders.

And just as Lin Xinghai had predicted, the large group of approaching Mutated Zombies stopped three kilometers away from the defensive line.

After all, the Mutated Zombies were intelligent. They could recognize the Power of human weaponry. With a horde of cannon fodder at their disposal, why would they risk their own necks?

After contacting the Military Department, Wan Jiasong quickly relayed the message back. "The Military Department has dispatched two rapid-response units to reinforce us. On top of that, there’s also a shelling squad."

Hearing the report, Lin Xinghai felt a sense of relief.

Rapid-response units were forces specially created by the Military Department for reinforcement purposes. They were equipped with the most advanced weaponry. Although a unit only consisted of 100 people, the combat effectiveness they could unleash was no less than that of a conventional thousand-man force.

As for the shelling squad, while there were only a dozen or so members, they were equipped with small-scale missiles.

This was, in effect, the military’s trump card for pinning down Mutated Zombies.

As long as these units were present, the Mutated Zombies wouldn’t dare act rashly.

However, even as the military responded, the Mutated Zombies weren’t idle. They hadn’t come to the front lines just to watch the show.

The first to act were the "Spitters."

Among the 52 Mutated Zombies, there were six Spitters.

They gathered together and spewed great mouthfuls of venom onto a patch of open ground nearby.

The other Mutated Zombies let out a series of low roars. As the roars spread, High Level Zombies from within the tide emerged from the horde and walked toward the venom-soaked ground.

Their skin rapidly turned red, their muscles bulged, and their eyes grew crazed and violent as they swiftly transformed into Berserk Zombies.

Lin Xinghai’s expression grew solemn as he watched.

Berserk Zombies were no strangers to him, or to the entire Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps.

Aside from Mutated Zombies, they were one of the few threats the Mercenary Corps had to worry about.

Of course, if the number of Berserk Zombies was small, the threat they posed was limited.

But if their numbers exceeded one hundred, even the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps would have to go all out, even deploying their Mecha.

But now, there were six Spitters, assisted by a large group of other Mutated Zombies. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

The number of Berserk Zombies they created surpassed 100 in just tens of seconds, then 200, then 300... After only a few minutes, the number of Berserk Zombies was already approaching the one-thousand mark.

Even Lin Xinghai’s eye twitched as he watched this unfold.

If it were a thousand Berserk Zombies, the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps, combined with Outpost 108’s Defense system and their remaining 700-plus Combat Robots, could still hold the line.

The problem was, the distant Mutated Zombies showed no signs of stopping. They were still creating more and more Berserk Zombies.
