Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 288: Phased Victory
The scene of Liu Miaomiao unleashing her Superpower was truly terrifying; even she herself was a little stunned by it.
However, Lin Xinghai’s shout snapped everyone out of their daze. Liu Miaomiao immediately piloted her Mecha forward as well.
As she drew closer, the area her Life Control Superpower could envelop grew larger, and the number of floating specks of light increased.
Furthermore, as Liu Miaomiao began to move along the first defense line, the death rate of the Blood-colored Beetles skyrocketed. In almost every second, thousands, even tens of thousands, of Blood-colored Beetles perished.
And it wasn’t just the Blood-colored Beetles. Even the berserk Zombies had their Life Force drained, though their greater vitality meant they couldn’t be killed instantly.
But having one’s Life Force drained was no joke. Even if the berserk Zombies didn’t die, their bodies would be instantly weakened considerably.
As a result, the attacking Mercenaries and soldiers soon discovered that wherever Liu Miaomiao passed, the berserk Zombies’ Speed would drop a notch.
This created excellent firing conditions for them, and everyone’s accuracy improved significantly.
Of course, Liu Miaomiao had no time to worry about any of this. She went all out, doing what she had to do, and swept along the first defense line in just over ten seconds.
By this point, whether they were outside, had burrowed into the Mecha, or were hidden inside the berserk Zombies, every last Blood-colored Beetle had perished without exception. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝕨𝕖𝗯𝚗𝚘𝕧𝕖𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝕞
This was the sheer dominance of the Life Control Superpower. No matter where they hid, as long as they were within the Superpower’s range, their Life Force would be drained directly.
After finishing all this, Liu Miaomiao followed Lin Xinghai’s orders and immediately returned.
In truth, her face was already pale. Although she had only used her Superpower for a brief ten-plus seconds, the amount of Life Force she had drained was so immense that more than half of her own Superpower energy was depleted. She could no longer remain on the front lines to provide support.
But those brief ten-plus seconds had completely turned the tide of the entire battle.
With the threat of the Blood-colored Beetles gone, Lin Xinghai immediately changed his battle plan, ordering the Combat Robots on the first defense line to fall back.
Upon receiving the order, the remaining Combat Robots on the first defense line leaped out from behind their cover, fighting the berserk Zombies as they retreated toward the second defense line.
The berserk Zombies, of course, immediately gave chase. By leaving the defense line, they had also left behind their best cover.
This, in turn, led to another considerable boost in the accuracy of the Mercenaries and soldiers.
More importantly, as the berserk Zombies got closer, the group’s shooting accuracy would continue to rise.
If the Blood-colored Beetles had still been around, Lin Xinghai would never have dared to let these berserk Zombies get close. But now that the beetles were gone, it was a different story.
While these berserk Zombies were terrifying, their Speed in destroying Combat Robots couldn’t compare to the Blood-colored Beetles. More importantly, their numbers were limited.
Originally, the berserk Zombies, combined with the Blood-colored Beetles, could have destroyed the defense line of 2,000 Combat Robots in just a few dozen seconds.
But now, even with only 1,000 Combat Robots left, they could tie down the enemy for at least two to three minutes.
And with those two to three minutes, even by the most conservative estimates, they could annihilate at least 2,000 berserk Zombies.
If they performed well, it might even be possible to take advantage of these two to three minutes they’d bought to annihilate all the remaining berserk Zombies.
Even if they couldn’t annihilate all the berserk Zombies, Lin Xinghai could simply send out another wave of Combat Robots to tie them up and easily finish off the rest.
It could be said that without the Blood-colored Beetles, the threat these berserk Zombies posed was limited.
The battle continued, and its development was even more ideal than Lin Xinghai had predicted.
When the members of the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps and the soldiers of the rapid response forces saw that Liu Miaomiao had actually dealt with all the Blood-colored Beetles, their morale soared.
Under these circumstances, their marksmanship was almost preternatural. As the distance between the two sides continued to shrink, their shooting accuracy kept rising.
Of course, during this process, Combat Robots were also being continuously destroyed, one after another.
However, the destruction of these Combat Robots wasn’t entirely a bad thing.
After all, when the two sides were entangled, these Combat Robots were, to some extent, acting as "cover" for the berserk Zombies.
Now that this "cover" was being reduced, everyone’s accuracy naturally increased as well.
One had to remember that the Heaven-Sundering Mercenary Corps plus the four rapid response forces totaled 500 people. With so many shooters, even a 1% increase in overall accuracy had a remarkably significant effect.
Ultimately, due to all these combined factors, all the berserk Zombies were killed when they were just 10 meters away from the second defense line.
And surprisingly, 300 Combat Robots still remained.
In the end, they had annihilated all the berserk Zombies and Blood-colored Beetles at the cost of only 1,700 Combat Robots, which was a pleasant surprise, big or small.
Around the same time they achieved victory, the battles at Outpost 107 and Outpost 109 also came to an end.
The Military Department teams dispatched there had also killed all of the 1,000 berserk Zombies they each faced, and then used Burning Bullets to burn all the Blood-colored Beetles hidden inside the Zombies’ bodies to death.
However, the price they paid was by no means small; both sides lost nearly 1,500 Combat Robots.
These combat losses were almost identical to those at Outpost 108.
But the number of berserk Zombies they faced was only a quarter of that at Outpost 108.
Of course, this didn’t mean the dispatched support teams were useless. It only highlighted how exceptional Lin Xinghai and Liu Miaomiao were.
It went without saying for Lin Xinghai; the number of berserk Zombies he killed alone was nearly half the total.
As for Liu Miaomiao, she had dealt with the most troublesome problem of all—the Blood-colored Beetles.
It’s no exaggeration to say that the two of them deserved at least half the credit for this victory.
When the battle ended, everyone at Outpost 108 was jubilant. Although they couldn’t celebrate, some well-deserved rest and relaxation were permissible.
As for the Zombie tide, any single rapid response force could easily hold it back, relying on the outpost’s well-established defense system.
However, the high-level command, including Lin Xinghai, had no time to rest. As soon as the battle was over, they quickly gathered in the strategy meeting room.
The first wave of threats had been dealt with, but it was highly unlikely that the Mutated Zombies, having expended so much effort to launch a Zombie tide of this unprecedented scale, would give up after just one setback.
Their goal was to delay these Mutated Zombies for three hours. It was far too early to relax.
