Isn't It Love?
Chapter 45: Always Childhood Friend
"Erm... this is a question for Chloe..."
Chloe heard Daisy getting ready to read the sentence written on the card. For someone who was sick, she really didn’t show a feverish face and her runny nose with all that snot from before seemed to have disappeared.
A stupid person like Chloe was truly unique.
"Hum! Come on, come on, what question do you want to ask Lady Chloe!"
Wiping under her nose with her finger, puffing her medium-sized chest forward and putting on a smug face. Chloe was truly ready to answer any question thrown at her.
"Okay... the question on this card says, ’Have you ever...’ eehhh... sorry, I can’t read the rest..."
Daisy’s face immediately turned bright red, the card in her hand fell as both her hands covered her face which looked like it was about to cook.
Risa picked up Daisy’s fallen card and her face also turned red. Lily, curious, peeked and also read what was written on the card, her face smiled, letting out a soft giggle.
"Umm... so what’s the question? You guys are really making me curious." Asked Chloe, tilting her head.
Kai then took the card from Risa’s hand, after reading its contents, his eyes stared at Chloe while biting his lower lip, one bad habit he did when he felt a situation was cringey enough.
"Are you sure?"
Chloe nodded like a puppy waiting for its owner to say a command, "Come on, what’s the question!"
"Haa..." Kai let out a fairly heavy sigh. He did that because for some reason, whatever came out of Chloe’s mouth, that stupid lie detector bell would definitely buzz. "Alright then... on this card it says..."
"Have you ever touched ’your thing’ while imagining the person you like."
The awkward atmosphere immediately returned. The later it got, for some reason the questions from the cards also got weirder. Besides, how could that question even pass factory verification, it was truly a sexual harassment question.
"You don’t need to answer that, Chloe... how about another question." said Kai, trying to dispel the awkwardness from these girls.
Taking another card, Kai was relieved it was a fairly normal question, not like that overly excessive landmine question earlier.
"Okay... this is the replacement question, umm... Have you ever fallen in love?"
Finally, a normal question.
Thought Kai as he finished reading the sentence on the small card in his hand. The three girls, including himself, waited for Chloe to answer.
"Umm... have I ever fallen in love. Of course, yes."
Ding!
The sound of the bell and the unlit light on the detector helmet Chloe was wearing indicated she was telling the truth. Besides, of course everyone has fallen in love, not necessarily with another person, falling in love with an object or animal is still considered within the ’context of falling in love’ because that previous question was a universal question.
"Hmm... isn’t that question too easy for Chloe. That’s not fair," Lily protested a bit because among the people who got questions, Chloe always got easy ones. As if the goddess of luck (along with the goddess of misfortune) truly existed in this girl’s life.
"Yeah, I agree with big sister Lily. That idiot Chloe is sure have rigged question from my dearest big brother, cause that question is way too easy." Said Risa, adding to Lily’s statement.
It seemed Risa really wanted to get back at her because earlier Chloe had truly embarrassed her with the question about her wetting the bed until sixth grade.
"Well then... how about, have you ever fallen in love with someone... Chloe? Honestly, I’m curious because you... you said you’ve never dated, right."
"Yup, I’ve never dated."
Ding.
"See." Said Chloe with a grin. Showing that even this stupid bell could tell she was telling the truth.
Risa suddenly had an idea, a random question that shouldn’t really need to be asked but the desire to tease Chloe was stronger than anything else.
"Never dated, huh, well then I have a question: ’Do you like my brother, Kai Clove.’"
Daisy and Lily made a cute gasp gesture, while from Chloe, her eyes dilated a bit hearing the question. However, it didn’t last long because Chloe smiled again.
"Yes. I adore your brother."
Ding
Kai looked at the bell that made that sound. His gaze then shifted to Chloe’s face.
The three girls, Risa, Daisy, and Lily, stared at Kai. Especially Risa who was pouting. Leaping like a little kitty, Risa hugged her older brother.
"Stupid Chloe, I was just joking, don’t answer seriously like that. And seriously, you like my brother like that. No and NO. I won’t let you two get together."
"When did I say ’like’? I only said ’adore’, that’s a totally different thing."
"So do you like Kai?" asked Daisy, a little curious.
Chloe turned, staring at Kai with a smile that truly wasn’t the smile she usually showed Kai. "Hmm... maybe."
Oh God... why is it getting this complicated.
Seeing Kai who seemed quite fed up with all this game. Lily’s eyes then looked at the wall clock which was already almost 10 PM, it seemed she’d had enough fun for today. Besides, there would always be tomorrow to have fun.
"It’s late already. I think we should stop this fun game for now."
"Agreed." Kai nodded, grateful because Lily’s words truly helped him escape from a game that was getting more and more annoying for Kai as time passed.
However, one person, as usual that idiot Chloe, let out a whining sound, she was a little disappointed that playtime was over.
"Hee~ that’s cheating, Daisy hasn’t gotten a question yet."
"No no no, it’s late, I want to sleep and my little sister also seems sleepy too. And you should also sleep early, aren’t you still sick."
"Ugh..." Chloe rolled her eyes, crossing her arms in front of her chest, making a face that even made Risa, a girl two years younger than her, seem more mature.
"Hmm... I think it’s okay, I mean it’s not fair if I don’t get a turn." Said a motherly girl who really seemed like a ’mom’ figure granting her child’s strange request. "Maybe I’ll just take a card and answer directly."
Taking a card, Daisy began reading the sentence written inside.
"Erm... the question is, do you like your childhood friend?"
Ohh... a good question. I’m curious about Daisy’s feelings towards Caleb. Kai smiled hearing that, because this was a precious opportunity to know how Daisy felt about the teenager who used to be a ’red flag’, now becoming like a ’green flag’.
"Ehh what kind of question is that?!" Chloe took the card from Daisy’s hand to read it with her own eyes. "Eh yeah, the question is like this. So... how do you feel about, what’s your friend’s name? I forgot... Caleb. Ah yes, Caleb."
Daisy, who didn’t seem to think anything was strange, just smiled and answered the question with an answer that made Kai’s eyes widen.
The sound of Ding, sounded like the final strike of a gavel in a courtroom. Before finally the three girls - Chloe, Daisy, and Lily - left Kai’s house.
The house became quiet as Kai and Risa tidied up their living room.
Risa looked at her brother who took some drinking glasses and walked to the kitchen. Following Kai, Risa helped him wash the dishes.
"Emm... I didn’t expect Big Sister Daisy would answer like that, whether it’s true or not. Besides, the lie detector game only answers true or false based on heart rate..."
"Yeah... it’s just a game after all."
"But answering, ’I only see him as a friend, no less no more, my feelings will stay the same forever’ sounds brutal, don’t you think, Brother."
Kai just nodded, because Kai wasn’t fit to comment considering he had once done that to "Arisa." Even though in the end he realized, that he was wrong... and everything was too late.
Childhood friends are indeed complicated. People say love can grow from the feeling of "getting used to" but it seems those words are just like empty bird chirping.
