Kaidan Game Train: Abide Rule or Die!
Chapter 2238: Why Change the Name
The people nearby who were chosen weren’t high-level players. Like ordinary people, there were quite a few low-level players gathering around, and of the twenty-plus people Xu Huo picked out, nineteen confessed to being fugitives. To avoid trouble, he brought them all into his unlocked area through the Mental Portal and killed them.
After the death of the nineteen fugitives, his circular unlocked area finally expanded, quickly covering several nearby streets.
But it was only a few streets, still not as big as the starting area of those two players who just passed by.
However, this was enough for him to operate.
He quickly disappeared from the street, and the players who had gathered were a bit disappointed to see him escape, but they didn’t linger for long and quickly left.
Players’ unlocked areas overlap, and the boundary lights of each person’s unlocked area are quite similar. This means that if one is unfamiliar with their unlocked area or unsure of the rules, it’s easy to unknowingly step out of the unlocked area.
Judging by the pressure from the local players, stepping out of the unlocked area isn’t a good thing.
After dealing with some disguised and altered fugitives nearby, Xu Huo changed his appearance and walked out of the building.
Shops within the city were still open as usual, and there were quite a few people wandering around. However, both sellers and buyers were extremely cautious, reacting rapidly to any disturbance, with some rushing to see the commotion and others seeking places to hide.
Xu Huo stopped at a street corner and glanced at the "Game point" written on the nearby signpost.
He had seen five such signposts along the way, and there were even more with the Spiritual World released. But apart from the words "Game point," there were no other markers, and passersby were indifferent, not talking about it.
On the street next door, two fashionably dressed elderly men were frantically smashing a signpost that had "Game point" written on it while cursing, mentioning "One Third City" and "Game" in their words.
Just as Xu Huo was about to go over and ask, the two suddenly collapsed, bleeding from their mouths and noses.
"Why the hell are you making a racket in broad daylight, don’t you see I’m trying to sleep?" A player in a shop upstairs cursed from the window and then turned away to pull up the curtains.
People on the street were indifferent to such killings, and soon patrolling players in the city arrived to drag the bodies away.
Xu Huo picked up a map from the roadside.
The One Third City indeed covered quite an area, comparable to the national territory area of a medium-sized country in Zone 014. On the map, this city was divided into fifty small areas, numbered from 1 to fifty. The fiftieth area was the city center, occupied by the Player Organization that controlled the city. The Municipal Government they established is also there, the two are inseparable.
However, considering the local conditions, this Municipal Government rarely comes forward to maintain the basic operation of the city. Besides dealing with bodies, they seldom appear.
Xu Huo is currently in District 5, sharing a reservoir with District 6 next door. Now, people from both Districts 5 and 6 are stuck at the city map’s border, cursing at each other across the air over water issues.
Even daily water usage is autonomously managed by each district; one can imagine the sanitary conditions, food supply, and daily necessities situation, with disparities between two adjacent streets, depending on whether there is management or not.
"Why can’t they cross districts?" Xu Huo asked after observing the commotion on the roadside.
A middle-aged woman carrying some fruit glanced him up and down, replying apathetically, "Why else? That’s just how the Municipal Government prescribed it."
Xu Huo had previously encountered external players occupying the law enforcement points, imagining no district government providing relevant consultation.
Returning to the old method, he took out a small stack of White Notes.
The middle-aged woman grabbed the money at once, pulled him by the arm to a less crowded place, "Oh, young man, you look a bit like my distant relative, it feels so familiar at first sight. Come, come, big sister invites you to eat some fruit."
In the less crowded place, the woman hung the basket on her arm and started counting money, saying, "Ask whatever you want."
"Is it only local people who can’t cross districts, or can external players not cross either?" Xu Huo asked.
"Of course, it’s us living in Bu Liu City," the woman replied without lifting her head, counting the money again, "You players, who can control you? No one cares wherever you go."
"Was this place originally called Bu Liu City? Why was it renamed? When was it renamed?" Xu Huo recalled the instance name was "One Third City."
"Everyone just calls it that, never officially renamed. We got used to it as people kept calling it that," the woman chuckled, "Besides, such a shabby place, who’d bother renaming it."
That relates to the instance.
The number "One Third" must be related to the instance to widely circulate and gradually replace the city’s original name.
"You foreigners keep fussing over names, asking as if it’s a big deal," the middle-aged woman pocketed the money, "Since I took your money, I’ll talk a bit more."
"You probably heard, some players first started calling it that, claiming the clear passes were always stuck at one third. We locals couldn’t argue with outsiders, so they called it that, we followed suit."
While speaking, she picked out the smallest fruit from the basket and handed it to Xu Huo, "Big sister is giving you this."
She stuffed the fruit into his hand and walked away.
"Don’t believe her," came a voice from upstairs, attracting Xu Huo to raise his head. It was a young woman dressed plainly, "She’s a well-known swindler on this street, not a word of truth from her mouth."
"Really?" Xu Huo asked, "Then why did the name change to One Third?"
"Isn’t it because of an instance called ’One Third’?" the young woman curiously asked, "Aren’t you here for this instance?" 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖
"I just find it odd, the original name was quite nice, the new name inconvenient to call and doesn’t seem official," Xu Huo replied.
The woman chuckled, "It’s just a name, what’s the big deal? Almost dinner time, would you like to come up for a meal? Dishes outside are expensive and unsafe, you can eat at my place, just pay for the ingredients."
Xu Huo accepted her hospitality, ascended to the third floor via the nearby staircase.
"Are there others in the house?" Xu Huo paused at the door. Without effort, he could hear snoring coming from the bedroom.
