Kiss the hero, Hunt the Villain
Chapter 39 - Surprise Raid (2)
The old man observed Vincent and scoffed in disapproval. He then walked back into the door behind the wall. 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
"What is his deal?" Vincent said, pointing at the rude old man.
Jason patted at his shoulder and sighed. "Careful, that man is the head of this department. I suggest that you get a good impression at the start."
"I feel like the chance is gone. Look at the way he stared at me. I felt like a bug."
"Same." Jason nodded. "Anyway, wait for the man. He is sorting out something in the back."
"We need to hurry right?" Vincent said, looking at the captain. "Right, boss?"
"I can’t do anything. I am just here to see you guys off." Captain Hugle shook his head. "His name is Ronal, even when I started working in Homicide, he is old."
"So, a mysterious old man in the basement. Is this some kind of hidden plot I need to discover?" Vincent rubbed his chin with the spine.
"Who are you calling me old?" Ronal came out from the door with a frown.
He sighed, shaking his head. "Young men these days don’t know respect. Come, I will dress you guys."
Vincent smiled and followed.
Ronal pushed him away and signalled Jason to come first. Vincent hung his head low with shoulder reflecting his mood.
Ronal gave Jason the gun and the armor and started explaining everything related to it. Jason listened to every word coming from the old man’s mouth but his expression betrayed the enthusiasm he displayed.
He was bored.
After finishing Jason, Ronal turned his head toward Vincent and called him.
Jason walked beside him and said, "I will be in the practice room. Come and I will give you a quick training."
Vincent nodded.
Ronal gave him a glance, scanning him head to toe. "What is your name?"
"Vincent. I am a newly made detective."
"Experience in weapons?"
"Only the plasma gun. But I can fight well with my hands."
"Hmm... judging by your build, I know that you overpowered the other."
"Correct, old man." Vincent smiled.
"Here, take this." Ronal grabbed the gun and gave it to him.
"The loading session is smooth. So smooth that even an infant can do it. As for the recoil, I am sure you can handle it if you use the correct technique."
Vincent nodded, looking at the cold gun. He tried gripping the gun and it fitted right in. It wasn’t like the plasma revolver he carried at all.
"Like it?" Ronal asked.
Vincent nodded, swinging around and aiming at the various places. He knew that the chamber was empty. That was why he played around with it.
"Yes, very much. It is much better than the revolver I carried."
"Then, consider it as a gift for you, kiddo."
"Seriously?"
Ronal nodded.
"No string attached."
"Take it or loan." Ronal grumbled.
"I will take it. Thank you, old man."
Vincent moved to the next, following Ronal. The old man picked up the vest and put it down. He then picked another.
After an endless repeating process, the old man licked up the correct vest for him.
"This thing can stop every bullet in the entire world." Ronal said, allowing Vincent to touch the vest.
Vincent’s finger ran through the fabric and felt the smooth silky sensation. The fabric was thick but he doubted it would stop a bullet.
Nevertheless, who was he to question the judgement of the expert?
"It can’t stop the plasma weapon very carefully."
"Hey, old man. I am going to hurt like shit if the bullet struck me right?"
"Better than dead."
"Can’t complain against that logic." Vincent sighed.
He picked up the vest and moved on to the next. Ronal gave him the two daggers, razor sharp and durable.
After picking up everything, he was sent to the room which Jason entered.
Before he left the weaponry, Ronal looked at him and said. "Be safe, kid. I don’t want the blood of yours on my stuff."
Vincent smiled and nodded. "I won’t."
Ronal appeared to be a senile old man but he was kind. Even with Vincent’s rude words, he didn’t mind at all.
Bang. Bang. Bang. Perfect!
In the shooting range, Jason shot out a series of bullets, all hitting at the target.
"Woah." Vincent was surprised and clapped his hands.
Jason put down the gun and glanced at him, signalling him to go to the place beside him.
"See like you are still fresh." Captain Hugle commented from the side.
"This is the only thing I am good at, sir." Jason said and looked over at Vincent.
"Hey, rookie, before you shoot, first practice your handling of the gun. I want to see your proficiency."
"Got it."
Vincent nodded and started displaying his skill proudly. Jason looked from the side and nodded.
"Good. You got the basics down at least. The training shouldn’t last that long."
From then on, Jason taught him every trick. How to aim? When to shoot? How to position yourself in the gunfight.
Vincent soaked in all. Even if his body didn’t learn much, he had the mind.
It took them about 2 hours and they ended the lessons.
In the dressing room, Vincent took off his clothing and changed into the vest and other various utility outfits. He put one of the daggers in his ankle and the next on his waist.
The extra bullets were placed on his chest and his gun in the left side of the waist. After preparing everything, he checked one last time.
He grabbed his phone and stopped himself from texting or calling.
He didn’t want to put others into a worried mind.
Walking out from the dressing room, he met with Captain Hugle and Jason who was also in the new outfit similar to him.
But he saw two guns on the detective.
They both went upstairs and entered into the black car. Vincent looked at the back seat and saw a strange device.
"What is that?"
"EMP. We know that they have one for us. There is a chance that their weapons are immune to their own EMP so we planned to use a strong one." Jason explained, patting the device.
"This one is the strongest in the world. Once it started, everything related to the electricity shut down. They won’t be able to call backup quickly."
Vincent nodded. "I guess, we prepared everything."
"Yeah. Now, let’s pick up our hero and discuss our plan."
"Which one did you pick?" Vincent asked.
"Werewolf."
