I woke up to the annoying ringtone of my phone. I tried so hard to ignore it, but once Kayden started stirring beside me, I knew I had to be up on my feet immediately.

Whoever was calling seemed to be persistent and also, I didn’t want to wake Kayden.

I let out a groan as I reached out to pick up my phone laying on my nightstand, and once the screen came alive and I saw the name, I let out another groan.

It was Miller. What the hell was he calling me for now? I wondered as I struggled to raise myself from the bed, groaning again.

Had something happened? The Miller I know wouldn’t call me persistently like that unless something had happened.

I heaved a deep sigh as I picked up his call. "What the hell are you calling me for? It’s..." I paused, removing my phone from my ear for a moment to check the time.

It was 1:30 am.

"What the hell, Miller? Some of us need sleep, so I need to know why the hell you are calling at this hour."

"I am at the front of your house, Rhys."

"Uh!" I gasped as I rose up from the bed. "This better not be a prank," I warned him.

"I am truly here, Rhys," Miller replied softly, and from his tone, he didn’t sound like he was joking.

He was at the front of my house? What the hell was he doing there?

"What the hell?" I rubbed my eyes as I headed towards the living room, and once I reached my front door and opened it, Miller was truly standing right there in front of my door.

The first thing I noticed was the pungent smell of blood.

My heart did a jump as I couldn’t help but wonder if something had happened to Leo.

"Where is Leo, and why are you here alone?" 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶

Miller said nothing as he slowly walked past me into the living room, then he flopped onto my couch.

"Miller, I need to know what is..." My words were cut off by the soft sniffles I heard from him.

I rushed towards him immediately. His head was lowered and he was sobbing.

"Is Leo fine, Miller?" I demanded, the panic evident in my tone. "I need to know what the hell is happening. Where is he?"

Miller raised his head to face me and through the dim light in the room, I saw his eyes filled with tears, a few already streaming down his face.

"I told him that everything was going to be fine and I will support him no matter what happens, but he seemed not to have any faith in me. He truly believes that he would go crazy and would attack me, and..." He burst into tears again.

I stared at Miller for a moment without saying anything. I waited for him to say something else as I observed him.

From his tone, I could tell nothing physical had happened to Leo, but instead, they were having problems again.

"Rhys," he said slowly, sniffling and wiping the tears off his face. "I had judged him when I shouldn’t tonight. Because I saw the way that enigma acted, I truly thought that Leo could turn out to be like him. I am pathetic and I wanted to help him, I love him so much and I..."

I placed a hand on his back and rubbed it gently. "I don’t know what is happening," I finally spoke. "But I know that you and Leo probably had another fight, right? Something happened between you two?"

Miller slowly nodded and then he typed something on his phone. I gave him a questioning look, but he beckoned for me to take his phone, and once it was in my hand, I stared down at a video of him and Leo having an interview, and the headline read:

**"EXCLUSIVE: High-Profile Attack on Miller Reid! Enigma Breaches Home; Reid and Leo Ackerman Rescue Male Omega from Violent Assault."**

"An enigma? Isn’t that Jace?" I asked when I saw the familiar face of Miller’s old lover on the screen. "What the hell is he doing with you? How did you both reconnect?"

Miller heaved a deep sigh and started explaining how his night had gone, and when he finished, he laid back against the couch.

"So Leo is scared that he might become like that enigma and would hurt you?"

He nodded.

I sighed and rubbed my face, the sleep wearing off my eyes. "The Leo I know will never do that," I told him. "I mean, I have heard of how crazy enigmas can be, which is why they are not in society now, but Leo is the last person that would hurt you. He loves you just as much as you do."

"And that’s why he is taking this break," Miller leaned forward. "Ever since I lost my parents, Leo has been the person that set me on the right path. He has been the one that made me look forward to a new day, aside from you. I love him so much and I am scared that he might disappear. What if he goes into hiding and I don’t see him again, what the hell am I supposed to do, Rhys?"

I placed an arm around his shoulder and rubbed it gently. "Stop thinking like that. Leo won’t do that. I know he won’t."

"You should have seen the look of fear in his eyes when they took that enigma away," Miller stood up and then began pacing around. "Just when I had thought that I had found the most important person in my life, all could be taken away in the blink of an eye again, just like my parents."

I just stared at him, as I had no idea what to comfort him with. Kayden had always been the one good at comforting others. I sucked at that, and as much as I wanted to tell him that it was going to be fine, I didn’t know how to; instead, I stood up, walked up to him, and placed a hand on his shoulder.

"Listen to me, Miller, I think you should try to get some rest now. I know you might not be able to sleep, but you need it, and by tomorrow once Kayden is awake, we will find a way out of all of this."

Miller groaned and ran a hand through his hair. "I truly hope that we find a way to resolve this, because the last thing I want is losing Leo."

"Trust me when I say you are not losing him," I assured him, and slowly took his hand as I led him out of the living room towards the guest room that Kayden used to occupy when he first arrived here.

I led him into the room, and not until he was laying on the bed did I leave the room and head back into mine.

When I got inside the room and laid beside Kayden, he stirred and then leaned closer as I spooned him.

"Is everything alright?"

I kissed the top of his head. "Everything is fine. Just go back to sleep, sweetheart."
