Chapter 39: Chapter 39: The Wolf’s Claim

"How were you able to heal him?" She heard Ivy ask whilst she was battling with the voice of alpha Daisy in her head.

"Who?" She asked when she realised who she was referring to. "Oh, the man she loves?"

"Yes, Sonia."

"I don’t know either," worry tightened her face into a scowl. "I would usually access the patient, and see what the issue is. Sometimes, their wolf is too weak, hence why they’re unable to heal themselves. In such cases, I cleanse their body which in turn feeds their wolves and strengthens them. Or I could just directly heal their body, and their wolf follows next. Other times, it’s poison, and very rarely, a curse. Although I’ve never had to deal with the latter."

"So which was his?" She asked, leaning closer to her.

As she waited for a response, she studied her face. She could tell the impact of what she had done had not hit yet.

The whispers amongst wolves of different packs unanimously agreed the alpha Daisy was cursed. They said her mate was going to die, and it would confirm everyone’s speculation.

She had done the impossible. Something not everyone believed would ever happen. If she really understood what she had just done, perhaps, her mood would be brighter.

"It was an illness of the heart. When I came into the cottage, I instantly felt his pain. It was severe and heart breaking. I mean that literally," she paused to compose her next words. "The second I entered into the room he was kept in, a force drew me to him. I dropped to the bed beside him, and slept off. The healing took place in my dreams."

"Your dreams?" Ivy echoed, further confused. "But how did you do that in your dreams?"

"I don’t know. All I know is I hugged and comforted him. I think I took his pain. I mean that literally again. Because when I woke up and he was healed, my heart felt like it had been carved out of its chambers."

"Wow! You’re incredible, Sonia!"

"Incredible?" She repeated the words in a whisper.

Incredible wasn’t how she saw things. It was terrifying. She had been able to heal in small degrees before, but this was just taking it to an entirely different level which terrified her.

Her one hope was that it was kept a secret. She couldn’t bear the thought of her name being spread about. It was easy to go from being hailed as a wolf healer, to being branded a witch.

She closed her eyes, and rested her head on Ivy’s shoulders. "I’m surprised Alpha Ramon allowed you to come to me," she said in a breathless whisper.

Her wolf became tense at the mention of its mate’s name. It felt like forever ago since she last thought of him. In truth, he had escorted them to safety the previous day. It was a gesture she would love to remember the next time he pissed her off.

"I was also surprised when he called me to fetch you. I guess he’s starting to form a soft spot for you. The problem is Lorena. If she even notices he is getting close to you, she will do everything in her power to stop that bond."

"Can you blame her?"

"Why do you ask that?"

"Well for starters, she is devoted to him. She has devoted her body, her soul and her heart to him. Is it fair for another woman to claim him?"

"You’re questioning the moon goddess. That’s like blasphemy. There’s a reason you’re his mate. Lorena could never be fit to be a Luna. She’s too immature for that position."

"And I’m not?"

"You doubt yourself, Sonia. You can’t see it now, which is strange because you’re peculiar. Anyway, you will see what everyone that has gotten close to you can see. And that is, you’re one of a kind. No one can replace the impact you would bring to Alpha Ramon’s pack when the time comes."

"I don’t want to talk about him anymore. All it does is give me false hopes. In reality, I will return to the pack, and he’ll be back being an—" her words faded the second she remembered they were not alone in the car.

There was a driver. Ivy noticed she had gone silent because of him too, and smiled. She wasn’t going to tell her that if they were going to get in trouble for talking about the alpha, it would have happened already.

Simon was not a blabber mouth. She couldn’t thank the moon goddess enough the alpha had not decided to send one of the twins with her.

The car drove in through a different entrance of the pack, and straight to the house which Sonia and Ivy occupied.

As it came to a stop, Sonia opened her eyes. "We’re back to our ho— here," she stopped herself when her eyes found the cursed land.

She wasn’t going to call the place her home until something was done about that land.

She walked out of the car, and came face to face with Lorena. Too exhausted to deal with whatever she had up her sleeve, she held her breath, and prayed against the worst.

"You’re back? I thought you never will," she said sinisterly.

Sonia smiled. It was all she could think to do.

"What’s so funny? Are you smiling at me?"

"I’m sorry," she said.

"You should be. You should be very sorry. If you think because you danced with the alpha you now have enough status to rub shoulders with me, I must let you know you’re only being delusional. Do you understand?"

"I do."

"Why are you answering so nonchalantly?" She snapped.

"That’s enough!" They heard the voice of their alpha scream.

Overwhelmed, weak, and exhausted, Sonia couldn’t stop her wolf from jumping forward, and taking over.

Before she could intervene, she found her feet going towards him.

"No!" She screams internally, but she couldn’t overcome the determination of her wolf.

Lifting her toes, she wrapped her hand around the alpha’s neck, and kissed him.
