Chapter 276: Chapter 276: Who Fell Into Whose Trap?

Jax stared at the system screen with his jaw dropped. Which looked really stupid to Sianna who was watching a grown man gawking at thin air like he had just seen a ghost propose to him.

But it wasn’t his fault. The system had been trolling him since the day he arrived in this world and today it had decided to go all out.

He thought. ’System, you want me dead, don’t you? I know you, you motherfucker. You’re tempting me with a reward I can’t refuse. Five times of...’

He gulped. His mind was already running the calculations. In his imagination, every moan from this woman was twenty points. Every scream was more. In his dream, he was multiplying with each thrust by five and he was looking at numbers that could change his entire trajectory in this game.

And as he looked at Sianna through the system screen hovering in front of his eyes, he found her gaze. Those red eyes were definitely hissing at him. Like a snake deciding which part of the mouse to swallow first.

He dismissed the screen and refocused on reality. His plan, which was originally to just get on her nerves and have some fun, had now been completely rewritten. The new objective was to manipulate this cold-blooded matriarch into selling herself off willingly.

So he adjusted his tone. Still playful on the surface. But from here on out, every single word was load-bearing.

"Forget what I said earlier. But seriously, Lady Sianna, setting aside my horrible first impression, I have to say... you’re cunning. Powerful. And irritatin— cough cough —impressive."

He cleared his throat.

"And on top of all that, one hell of a beauty."

Sianna wasn’t impressed. Her grip on the fan tightened as if she was mentally replacing it with his throat.

Jax continued anyway. "Also, you completely won me over when you showed justice over your own son. The Vampire Kingdom surely needs you as their queen. Because unlike their current leader, you showed two qualities that actually matter."

He raised one finger.

"First, you identified Elira’s worth and chose the best possible path for your son. Which showed how great of a mother you are."

Second finger.

"And second, when you saw her misery, you chose to break the heart of your own son by giving her a shot at freedom. I mean, that’s ruler material right there."

Sianna closed her fan. Lowered it from her face.

And what was revealed beneath was a face that made every word Jax had spoken about beauty feel like an understatement. Yellow hair framing features so sharp and refined that they belonged on a painting, not a person. Red eyes carrying the depth of someone who had played political games since before most people in this garden were born.

She was the mother of a twenty-two-year-old and yet not a single line on her face agreed with that fact. Time had either forgotten about her or was too intimidated to try.

She said. "What are you even saying?"

Jax’s grin vanished into something resembling respect. "I mean that your move will free Elira from your son. From the burdens. From your family’s expectations and all that. Just because you showed humanity. Or should I say vampanity? Drainmanity?"

He waved his hand. "Anyway. My point is, you chose to break the heart of your own son."

His eyes found Leon standing beside her.

"Looking at his hungry eyes, I can feel he wants Elira so badly. And when that girl slips through his fingers tomorrow just because of you, that poor boy would die a virgin for sure. I’m already picturing it. Heartbroken. Humiliated. Lost the prettiest woman his mother handpicked for him only to snatch the opportunity right back."

He shook his head dramatically.

"And I’m also sure, looking at how fragile this boy’s ego is, he’ll spend the next decade cursing you and plotting something terrible behind your back."

Jax’s face shifted to dramatic anger. He placed a hand on his chest.

"And I won’t stand for it! This is a rotten seed, my lady, that you took in your womb! Give me the order to end him before he hurts my queen!"

Leon was grinding his teeth so hard the sound could be heard across the garden. He took a step forward ready to lunge at Jax.

But Sianna raised her arm. Blocked his path without even looking at him. And just like that, like a dog who had been trained to heel, he stayed put.

She looked at Jax with coldness that could freeze blood mid-circulation and said. "Do you really think that girl stands a chance tomorrow?"

Jax answered without a single second of hesitation. "No doubt about it. Not even a shred. Not even a molecule. Absolutely. Completely. And irrevocably certain."

Silence followed for several seconds.

Then he added. "Was that clear enough? Or should I find more synonyms?"

She replied with unbothered eyes. "Then you are the most foolish person I have ever laid my eyes on."

"I’ll take that as a compliment. To be called the most foolish by Lady Sianna herself means I have achieved something truly unique. A special place in your heart reserved only for me. I’m honored."

She said with flat tone. "What is giving you the guts to speak to me like this? Do you have any idea who—"

"It’s just excitement, Lady Sianna. Something similar to childish excitement. I’ve been behaving like this for some time after knowing that tomorrow is the day when I walk into the hall, raise one more trophy, or whatever it will be, and show the entire world my grand entry into the academy as the youngest yet fastest to ever climb the ranks in history."

He bowed slightly.

"So forgive me, my queen."

Sianna’s flat tone didn’t waver. "You are insanely irritating as well as stupid. I have heard many positive things about you. Your courage. Your influence. And more. I myself studied you before considering a marriage proposal between you and my daughter."

She paused.

"But now I can tell it was all a waste. Because you are nothing but a man drunk on his own delusions."

Jax said. "Hey, I was just telling you what was inevitable. How can you call that delusional? How can you treat your biggest fan as a fool?"

Sianna’s composure held but barely. "Fine. If it has come to this, then how about a wager? I have heard you enjoy betting."

The words hit Jax’s ears like music as it was exactly why he was playing along till now.

"If you really believe you’re winning tomorrow, then you can put that confidence on the line. The rules are simple. You win the tournament with your team. Rank at the top spot. And if you make it, you can ask anything from me."

Jax’s eyes glistened. "A wager with the Matriarch herself? Lady Sianna, you’re making my heart race. But are you sure about the anything part?"

She nodded. "Anything within my reach."

Jax was grinning from the inside. The jackpot had landed right in his lap. He had finally maneuvered this cold woman into his trap.

"But if you lose," she continued, "you will lose your freedom as well. You will become property of the Bloodmond house. A mere toy. And you will be treated as a slave for the rest of your life."

Jax made a dramatically frustrated face. "Why does everyone in this world want to make me their slave? Seriously. Is it the face? The charm?"

He looked at Zharina standing nearby. Then turned back to Sianna.

"Do I genuinely look that desirable that every noble house wants my bloodline mixed into their pathetic family tree? Because if so, I should start charging."

She didn’t appreciate his humor. Not even a flicker.

So Jax said. "Fine. I accept. Because honestly, I see no loss in this. I’ve always had a weakness for women of authority. The kind who could drain a man of his willpower and leave him grateful for the experience. A wild yet awesome fantasy."

He tilted his head.

"And who would be better suited for that than a race who literally loves to suck and has built an entire legacy on draining others—"

He was ignored again. So he moved on.

"You’re so mean. Let’s make it done then. Honestly, a bet should be on equal terms and I should match the enslavement clause." She stared at him. He raised his hands. "But I’m a mere peasant professor. I couldn’t possibly demand something grand from someone of your stature."

He smiled.

"So let’s keep it modest. If I win, I’d like one day of your time. Under my terms. Following my lead. A simple, dignified exchange between two people who respect each other."

His eyes drifted to Zharina. And he recalled how ungrateful that woman had been after spending one day with him. How she had gone straight into her rebellious redemption phase as if the experience meant nothing.

Better to avoid a repeat.

He said. "Actually, on second thought. Let’s make it two days and each day would be decided by me."

He said it to just to make sure he can humble her whenever she feels superior again.

The moment the words left his mouth, Sianna moved.

Her fan came forward like a blade. Before Jax could process what had triggered her, a precise cut opened across his palm as the edge of the fan was sharp. Then she poked her own finger on the same fan’s edge. Blood welled on her fingertip.

She dropped her blood onto the ground. Where it landed, a magical circuit erupted across the stone. Red lines spreading outward in intricate patterns. Runes glowing in sequences that carried the weight of something ancient and binding.

She spoke. "By the blood of Bloodmond. By the covenant that binds flesh to oath and oath to fate. I, Sianna Bloodmond, invoke the Crimson Pact. The terms spoken between us shall be sealed in blood. Neither party may break, bend, or betray them. Should either side dishonor this bond, their blood shall answer. Their strength shall drain. And their name shall be erased from every record of the living."

She looked at Jax.

"Drop your blood onto the circuit. And accept the terms."

Jax looked at the glowing magic beneath his feet. At the blood already dripping from his cut palm. At the ancient ritual that was about to chain him to a wager against a woman who had been playing games of power since before his parents were born.

He let his blood fall.

The circuit flared. Red light consumed the patterns. Then faded. The pact was sealed.

And that’s when Sianna’s face changed.

The cold, unbothered expression she had been wearing the entire time vanished. What replaced it was a grin. Wide. Knowing. The grin of someone who had been steering a conversation toward this exact moment from the very first word.

"You fell right into my trap, Professor."

Jax blinked.

"You really are a fool. To not even know that it is impossible for you to win this bet."

Her red eyes gleamed.

"And you would feel the same if you had bothered to check the leaderboard."
