Little Sorcerer, Divine Doctor
Chapter 1182 - 8: The Pitiful Are Always Detestable
Due to poor conditions and unhygienic environments, several incidents of tuberculosis fatalities have occurred in the Crescent Spring Cave over the past few years.
The village’s barefoot doctor, Doctor Zhao, has tried various methods, but none could save those patients.
Especially those in severe stages of tuberculosis; even the witchcraft of the half-beast doctor couldn’t completely cure them.
Yingying and her mother were expelled from the cave two years ago, yet they didn’t die from illness; instead, they miraculously recovered. This news seemed like a fantasy to the Human Clan in the cave.
"Impossible, this disease is incurable; even the half-beast doctor in town said so," the village chief was still skeptical.
"The failure to cure is due to poor medical skills. It’s an illness, and if you prescribe the right medicine, it can be treated. If you want to know if Yingying’s mother is better, just ask the barefoot doctor to check," Yun Sheng stood by coldly observing.
The villagers were suspicious; they also noticed Yun Sheng, who came along with Yingying and her mother.
Since being expelled from the cave, Yingying and her mother rarely showed up nearby. It must be this woman who encouraged them to return.
"Hmph, go fetch Doctor Zhao to take a look. If it’s found that her tuberculosis isn’t cured, this time, we’ll just burn her alive!" the village chief growled with displeasure.
Shortly after, a villager dressed as a doctor approached, first taking Yingying’s mother’s pulse, then examining her eyes and tongue. After a thorough check, Doctor Zhao was amazed.
"Strange, she’s truly healed, not a single symptom left. Village chief, Yingying’s mother has indeed recovered."
Doctor Zhao is the only barefoot doctor in the village. Though his medical skills can’t compare to the half-beast doctors in town, he can still tell if tuberculosis has been cured.
He holds the second highest status in the village, just below the village chief, and has considerable authority.
Since even he said Yingying’s mother was cured, the village chief and others gathered around, half-believing.
"But, young lady, how did you cure Yingying’s mother? I heard only the skilled witch doctors from the Sky Fox Tribe can cure tuberculosis. Are you a witch doctor?" Doctor Zhao asked, looking at Yun Sheng with excitement.
In his youth, Doctor Zhao had practiced medicine on the Bahuang Continent, giving him a broader perspective than most villagers.
Seeing Yun Sheng, though she appeared to be of the Human Clan, she possessed advanced medical skills and was accompanied by a Demon Beast; her identity couldn’t be simple.
Upon hearing that Yun Sheng was a witch doctor, the villagers were instantly astonished, becoming very excited.
The village chief immediately assumed Yun Sheng must be a noble Lord Sky Fox.
"Welcome, Lord Sky Fox, to the cave. Please come in. Someone, quickly notify Yingying’s father and tell him his wife and daughter have returned," the village chief graciously greeted, his face covered with a welcoming smile.
Knowing his wife and daughter were safe, Yingying’s father soon came to pick them up.
That evening, to thank Yun Sheng for saving Yingying and her mother, Yingying’s father set up a banquet at home to host Yun Sheng.
The village chief and several esteemed elders were also invited.
Though it was just simple fare, it was considered quite good for the cave dwellers.
The atmosphere at the dining table was joyous and harmonious.
"Lord Sky Fox, your medical skills are remarkable, and we have several patients here who can’t get to town for treatment. Could you possibly help us out?" the village chief humbly requested after a few rounds of drinks.
Though Doctor Zhao is in the village, his medical skills are limited, and he can’t handle many challenging ailments. Since a Sky Fox Tribe witch doctor happened to come by, and she seemed amicable, the village chief seized this opportunity to ask for Yun Sheng’s help.
"There’s no problem with seeing patients; I can offer a free clinic for the villagers tomorrow. However, village chief, don’t misunderstand; I am not a Lord Sky Fox, nor a witch doctor. I’m just like you, a member of the Human Clan, but I hail from the Wuji Continent," Yun Sheng explained kindly upon noticing the villagers were somewhat fearful of her.
However, upon Yun Sheng’s clarification, the expressions of the village chief and several villagers subtly changed.
It turned out the woman before them, whom they mistook for a witch doctor, wasn’t a Sky Fox, but a Human Clan member from the Wuji Continent!
As subjects of the Eight Desolates Continent, they understood the relations between the Wuji Continent and the Eight Desolates Continent.
They had long heard that the Beast Clan of the Eight Desolates Tribe deeply resented those from Wuji Continent.
What they thought was a noble visitor turned out to be a wolf in disguise; the village chief and the villagers lost interest, hurriedly standing to bid farewell.
Yun Sheng didn’t mind the villagers’ reactions much.
She spent the night at Little Yingying’s house.
In the middle of the night, Yingying’s mother awoke to find her husband sneaking out of bed.
He quietly left, making his way outside.
Where is he going in the middle of the night?
Confused, Yingying’s mother grew uneasy, so she donned her clothes and followed.
Yingying’s father walked all the way to the village chief’s house.
It was already deep into the night, yet the village chief’s house was brightly lit, surrounded by a mass of people.
Yingying’s mother hid in the shadows, peering inside, seeing the elders of the village, including the village chief, gathered within.
These people had been drinking with Yun Sheng earlier, and after leaving Yingying’s home, they had gathered at the village chief’s house to discuss matters.
A villager was relaying recent information to the village chief and the others, and under the flickering lamplight, the village chief’s old face seemed ominous.
Yingying’s father was met with angry stares as he entered.
"Yingying’s father, look at the mess your wife caused; she brought in that woman who is actually a wanted fugitive. If I hadn’t discovered it early, we’d be in deep trouble," the village chief fumed, tossing a painting onto the floor.
Yingying’s father unfolded the painting to find an image of a woman, precisely the Human Clan doctor staying at their home.
That evening, while drinking with Yun Sheng, she had mentioned she was from the Wuji Continent.
Her revelation left the village chief deeply uneasy, prompting him to have the villagers inquire further, discovering that just days before, the town’s medical clinic had been disrupted by an unknown woman impersonating a Sky Fox, with several clinic staff having their arms severed.
The town’s half-beast doctor was a sworn brother to the Town Mayor, and offending him was tantamount to offending the Town Mayor. This news caused great fear among the village chief and village elders.
