Little Sorcerer, Divine Doctor
Chapter 1184 - 10: Intimidation
After Yingying’s mother contracted tuberculosis, she witnessed the warmth and coldness of human nature.
Although she and Yun Sheng were mere acquaintances, she could see that Yun Sheng possessed exceptional medical skill and carried none of the Human Clan’s humility and submission found on the Wuji Continent, nor did she behave like the arrogant Sky Foxes.
Most importantly, she was kind to Yingying.
Separation is painful, but if Little Yingying stayed, she would repeat the fate of all women in the civilian cave, living a life as humble members of the Human Clan.
Unable to enter towns, unable to receive timely treatment when ill, a Human Clan’s life on the Wuji Continent is as worthless as grass.
Most civilians in the civilian cave were slaves, even if a few were free citizens, as soon as they were favored by the Half-Beast Clan or the Sky Fox Nobles, they would be forcefully made concubines.
Little Yingying was delicate and pretty; praiseworthy beauty is often a curse, and if she stayed, the civilian cave’s fate awaited her.
"I can give you some money for your family to move," Yun Sheng still refused to agree. It couldn’t be denied that she liked Yingying and indeed considered taking her as an apprentice.
But ultimately, she wasn’t from here, and would eventually leave.
"Doctor Yun, where can we move to? For thousands of years on the Wuji Continent, deep-rooted is the fate of the Human Clan serving as slaves; it’s our destiny. I only ask you to help change Yingying’s fate, that is enough," Yingying’s mother said as she solemnly kowtowed several times to Yun Sheng. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
"I will discuss this further with Yingying; if she agrees, I will take her as an apprentice," Yun Sheng mused, impressed by Yingying’s mother’s foresight.
The woman who initially chased her away turned out to be quite visionary, for a parent’s heart is sketched by compassion; perhaps she could consider taking Yingying as an apprentice.
However, before accepting an apprentice, Yun Shang must resolve some matters, for she already heard a commotion of footsteps behind her.
"Knew you couldn’t be trusted, this day, no one leaves," outside, a dozen villagers barged in. Yingying’s father, seeing his wife and daughter’s state, tried to step forward but was blocked by the villagers.
"Doctor Yun, flee quickly!" Yingying’s mother urged, face full of anxiety.
"Village chief, please don’t take Sister Yun; she’s a good person," Yingying pleaded tearfully.
"This woman chopped off the arm of a doctor in Crescent Spring Town. That doctor has put a bounty on her head; if we don’t hand her over, our civilian cave will suffer," the village chief spat angrily, ordering Yingying to be restrained.
"Yes, if we don’t hand her over, it will drag all of us down," the villagers clamored noisily.
"We can’t hand Sister Yun over; she’s the one who can cure my mother," Little Yingying bit down on the hand restraining her. With a wince of pain, Yingying rushed to Yun Sheng, trying to shield her from the villagers.
"You stubborn girl," the village chief, eyes red with rage, swung a slap toward Yingying.
The village chief’s hand was caught.
Yun Sheng, cold-faced, stared at the thronging villagers.
"Fools! Do you believe handing me over will change the fate of the Human Clan? Have you ever considered fighting back against the Half-Beasts? Look at you now, dwelling in the shabbiest places, drinking the dirtiest water, living as slaves generation after generation."
Idiocy encountered, none as foolish as this.
"Humph, easy for you to say. The oppression of the Human Clan is an irreversible fate. For thousands of years, we’ve been controlled by the Bahuang Tribe. Beastmen possess naturally superior physiques, suited for martial arts and adept at magic, tribe Witch Beast Masters can also summon powerful Demon Beasts. Compared to them, we’re just smashing eggs against rocks," hearing Yun Sheng propose resistance against Beastmen left villagers stunned and incredulous.
This Human woman, must be mad; she speaks of resisting Beastmen.
"Why must only the noble be king and minister! A poor physique can improve, low talent can be honed through hard practice. In martial and magic talent, the Human Clan is no lesser than Beastmen; as aborigines of the Wuji Continent, you should command this land," Yun Sheng was nearly driven mad by the ignorance of the Human Clan.
But it was no surprise, for even their ancestors fell prey to the Bahuang Beast Clan, instilling a near divine reverence in the blood of their descendants.
To truly communicate with them, they must feel the pain deeply.
"Bewitching nonsense, village chief, arrest her," villagers demanded, eager to flay Yun Sheng.
"Everyone quiet down!" While the villagers clamored in discord, Doctor Zhao, observing silently, suddenly spoke up.
He stepped before Yun Sheng.
"Empty words hold no weight, make us believe, prove it to us."
"Doctor Zhao, what are you saying, trusting this woman?" The village chief and villagers were dumbstruck because the respected Doctor Zhao somehow believed her words.
"Prove it? How do you want me to prove it?" Yun Sheng exhaled, relieved, as at least there was one sane person within the Human Clan.
"We have notified the Town Mayor; in over an hour, they’ll send people. If you can defeat them, we will believe you," Doctor Zhao’s words were straightforward.
On both Wuji and Bahuang Continents, might makes right.
The villagers can’t believe Yun Sheng through words alone; she’ll have to prove herself with strength.
Under normal circumstances, Doctor Zhao knew not to easily trust someone from a different continent.
However, this woman healed Yingying’s mother’s tuberculosis.
"Unacceptable, if it goes wrong, the Town Mayor will definitely vent his wrath on us all," the village chief didn’t want to risk it.
"Alright, I agree. Rest assured, I won’t use any of your manpower; I alone can handle the Town Mayor and his entourage," Yun Sheng affirmed confidently.
One woman against the Town Mayor and his men, could she be out of her mind?
Even Doctor Zhao wondered if she’d lost sense after Yun Sheng spoke.
Then, she picked up Bo Bo, pinching hard at its philtrum.
"Bo Bo! So painful! Boo hoo, dearest master, did you take the wrong medicine, pinching Bo Bo like this. Oh, wow, many folks; are you all here for breakfast?" Bo Bo, blissfully asleep, woke instantly, startled by Yun Sheng’s pinch.
"Sleep more, and I’ll pluck your wool, barbecue you. Wake up, it’s time to fight," Yun Sheng strode out, oblivious to the Human Clan’s wide-eyed stares, tugging the grumbling Bo Bo along.
