Live-in Son-in-law
Chapter 1416 - 416: Scared Me to Death
Yun Mengyao’s words almost made Granny Hua faint from rage. Holding the Elf Clan’s authority over reward and punishment in her hand, who dared talk to her like this?
Once Yun Mengyao’s temper flared, there was no stopping it. She said with disdain, "You might look like an Elf on the surface, but to me you’re more like some old demon hag."
"Hm?" Yin Qianqian froze for a second, then her pretty face instantly darkened. "Who are you scolding? Why do I feel like you’re pointing at the mulberry tree to curse the locust tree?"
Granny Hua was just about to explode, but unexpectedly Yin Qianqian struck first, leaving her momentarily dumbfounded.
Yun Mengyao shrank her neck, chewing over her own words and realizing there actually was some ambiguity. She said to Yin Qianqian, "Senior, I wasn’t talking about you, can you not take it personally?"
Yin Qianqian’s face stayed cold. "Watch your mouth."
Only then did Granny Hua finally have a chance to speak. She pointed at Qin Yi and the others. "Someone, drive these humans out."
Jin Wen and the others answered and moved to carry out the order.
Yun Mengyao snapped, "Can’t you talk a little more politely, you old crone? What did humans ever do to you? Don’t you also have a nose and eyes, hands and feet—so you’re not human either?"
The wings behind Granny Hua flared open with a swish as she said coldly, "Look closely. We are Elves. We’re different from devious, treacherous humans."
"What kind of bullshit logic is that? Just having wings makes you an Elf? Having wings automatically means you’re a good person? This thing, this young miss has too."
As Yun Mengyao spoke, the Seven-Colored Cloud Wings behind her opened with a rustle. The multicolored rays were gorgeous and dazzling, far more beautiful than the Elf Clan’s transparent wings.
Granny Hua and the others were stunned. They hadn’t expected Yun Mengyao to have wings as well.
"Y-You, what are you?"
Yun Mengyao declared proudly, "This young miss is the Saintess of the Feather Clan."
"Feather Clan?" Granny Hua thought hard for a long moment. "I’ve never heard of a Feather Clan."
"Nonsense, of course you haven’t. My Feather Clan is in the Xuanhuang Domain."
"Xuanhuang Domain?" Granny Hua was greatly shocked. "Are you kidding me? The Xuanhuang Domain is tens of millions of miles from the Northern Central State at least. With your level of Cultivation, how could you have made it here alive?"
"Forget it, I can’t be bothered explaining. You wouldn’t get it even if I did. I’m just telling you people with wings are still human; we’re not that much nobler than anyone else, so stop looking down your nose at people. Qin Yi even bears Phoenix Feather on his back; are you saying a Phoenix isn’t as noble as your Elf Clan?"
Granny Hua was left speechless. After a long while she finally said, "I don’t care who you are. This is the Feather Clan’s territory, and outsiders are not welcome."
"Hua Nian, Little Leaf, come here. Jin Wen, see our guests out."
"Little Leaf doesn’t want to leave Big Brother." Little Leaf clung tightly to Qin Yi’s neck and said in a small voice.
"Insolence. How dare you talk to Granny like that, do you want a spanking again?" Granny Hua said angrily.
But Qin Yi could hear that this Granny Hua’s bark toward Little Leaf was worse than her bite; she wasn’t truly being vicious.
"Granny Hua, I’m guessing you have a problem with humans because a hundred years ago humans brought harm to your Elf Clan, right? But don’t worry, we aren’t bad people. We won’t damage a single blade of grass or tree in the Elf Clan. I, Qin, have come here only to resolve one matter."
Granny Hua sneered. "I will never believe a human’s words. Humans are greedy and sinister. I will never allow what happened a hundred years ago to happen again."
Qin Yi looked toward Hua Chen and asked quietly, "Is this Granny Hua someone we can trust?"
Hua Chen nodded slightly and replied in a low voice, "Granny Hua is upright and impartial. She’s strict, but her rewards and punishments are fair. When Little Leaf and Hua Nian went missing this time, she was the most anxious one. Little Leaf’s mother died in childbirth. As a man, I don’t really know how to raise a child, so you could say Little Leaf was practically brought up by Granny Hua."
Qin Yi nodded slightly. In that case, this Granny Hua could be trusted.
"Granny Hua, could we speak in private? Once I’ve finished, if you’re still set on driving us away, I, Qin, will leave without staying a moment longer."
Granny Hua frowned. "Fine, I’ll see what you think you can say."
Qin Yi handed Little Leaf to Hua Nian, then followed Granny Hua off to the side to talk.
"This kid is acting weird. With how domineering he usually is, he can actually tolerate that old woman’s attitude? That’s rare." Yin Qianqian said lazily.
Yun Mengyao said, "I think it’s strange too. I asked him just now, but he acted all mysterious and wouldn’t tell me."
"Brother Qin must have his own reasons for doing this."
Yun Mengyao rolled her eyes. "Blind worship. Wuyan, I’m telling you, stay away from Qin Yi or he’ll corrupt you."
Jing Wuyan just smiled and didn’t comment.
Qin Yi and Granny Hua talked for about ten-plus minutes, then the two of them walked back.
Granny Hua looked at Jin Wen and said, "Go arrange a place for our guests to stay. For the next few days you’ll follow Young Master Qin and see that they’re well taken care of."
Qin Yi said with a smile, "Thank you, Granny Hua."
"Hua Chen, Hua Nian, Little Leaf, you come with me," Granny Hua said.
Little Leaf hurriedly hid in Qin Yi’s arms and whispered, "I don’t want to go. Granny Hua is definitely going to spank Little Leaf."
Qin Yi couldn’t help but chuckle. "Don’t worry, Little Leaf. I’ve already talked to Granny Hua. She won’t spank you."
"Really?"
"When has Big Brother ever lied to you?"
Little Leaf piped up in a childish voice, "If Big Brother lies to me, Little Leaf will never talk to you again."
"Hahaha..." Qin Yi laughed heartily. "Alright, if Big Brother lies to you, then Little Leaf can ignore Big Brother."
Hua Chen, Hua Nian, and Little Leaf followed Granny Hua away.
Qin Yi and the others followed Jin Wen toward the place arranged for them.
"What exactly did you say to that old woman? Her attitude changed a little too fast, don’t you think?" On the way, Yun Mengyao asked curiously.
"Obviously I used my brilliant mind and silver tongue."
"You licked her?" Yun Mengyao looked utterly disgusted. "Don’t tell me you sold your body and agreed to some ridiculous demands of hers? Qin Yi, I’m telling you, no matter how good you are with your mouth, if you dare do anything with her, I’ll look down on you for the rest of my life."
Qin Yi’s face darkened with anger.
"Yun Mengyao, can you act like a decent person? She’s at least an elder—aren’t you afraid of shaving years off your life talking like that?"
"I’m looking down on you, not her. Looking down on you shouldn’t shorten my lifespan, right?"
Qin Yi: "..."
"Damn, once a woman turns into a pervert, there’s no room left for men. I’m really worried about the men of the Elf Clan. I hope they don’t get ruined by a female hooligan like you."
"Tch, you’d better worry about yourself."
Qin Yi’s face went stiff with horror as he jumped a step away. "Yun Mengyao, we’re bros, okay? Don’t you dare get any ideas about me."
"Pah, as if. You wish. I meant those Elf girls just now were looking at you like they wanted to eat you clean to the bone, so I kindly reminded you to be careful."
Qin Yi patted his chest, putting on a thoroughly frightened expression. "Scared me to death. I thought you were drooling over my body."
