Love at First Sight? Mr. Harrison Has Been Scheming All Along
Chapter 295: "We’re Not Sharing a Room, Are We?
"Yeah, I’m childish, classless, and shameless."
Noah Sterling explained unhurriedly, "The reason we agreed to cooperate in the first place was for mutual benefit. Naturally, the prerequisite for ending our cooperation is that both our goals have been met."
Sherry Walsh understood this logic.
Back at Henry Lancaster’s wedding, Noah Sterling had only offered to help because he saw she was in a difficult situation.
His goal was to get rid of Jane Jenkins.
Jane Jenkins would definitely be at the class reunion.
Although Sherry was reluctant, she still said, "Fine, fine. But let’s try to make the reunion the last time."
Noah Sterling said nothing.
He took out his phone and said, "Since it’s settled, I’ll let Kent Phelps know now."
"Go ahead, tell him."
Sherry picked up her Coke and drank it, minding her own business.
After a moment, Noah said, "He said he’ll send me the details once the venue is booked."
"Okay."
Sherry bit down on her straw, finishing off her drink to wrap up the meal.
The two left the restaurant.
Sherry lifted the fabric of her clothes and sniffed it carefully.
The smell of hot pot clung to her.
’It doesn’t smell great.’
Noah Sterling held his suit jacket in his hand, keeping a comfortable distance from her.
Neither of them noticed that several meters behind them, Jane Jenkins was secretly following them.
At Henry Lancaster’s wedding banquet, judging by the way the two of them had spoken to each other earlier, they had seemed like mere acquaintances or friends at best.
But then, when everyone was toasting and making small talk later, Sherry Walsh had suddenly become Noah Sterling’s girlfriend!
She knew something was off right then and there.
That was why she had hired a private investigator to tail Noah for a while.
According to the investigator’s reports, the man and Sherry didn’t seem to interact much.
Even when he spent the weekend playing golf with clients, there was no sign of him going on a date with Sherry.
Standing a few meters away, she watched the two of them walking separately ahead, growing more certain of her suspicion.
’Those two...’
’They aren’t a couple at all.’
As for why they had suddenly changed their story to outsiders at Henry’s wedding...
’It was very likely that Noah saw me, remembered everything from the past, and couldn’t forgive what I’d done.’
’He was just using Sherry to put on an act to spite me.’
Before returning to the country, Jane Jenkins had asked around about Noah Sterling.
The man’s career had flourished over the years.
A man as outstanding and successful as him was sure to have caught the eye of many women.
Yet not only was he unmarried, he hadn’t even had a girlfriend.
’I’m the only girlfriend he’s had all these years.’
Jane hadn’t decided to study abroad from the very beginning. She had studied in the country until her sophomore year of college before dropping out to go overseas.
During that process, Noah had helped her a great deal.
He helped her prepare for her foreign language exams, went through practice questions with her, and coached her in speaking.
Noah had helped with her university application materials and her portfolio.
They say that the love you find as a student is the purest.
’And we have our own unique memories together.’
’Compared to the women he met only after he became famous and wealthy, I have an absolute advantage.’
’As long as we can spend some quality time together, even just for a few hours...’
She was confident she could win him back.
-
After lunch, Sherry was afraid her parents would ask about her and Noah, so instead of going home, she fled to her own little apartment.
She spent the afternoon busy with some work.
For dinner, she just threw something together.
She had just added hot water to her instant noodles and was bringing over her tablet to find a variety show to watch while she ate when her phone rang.
"Sherry, where are you now? Are you home?"
Her father’s concerned voice came from the other end of the line.
"I’m back, I’ve been back for a while." Sherry paused what she was doing. "I’m back at my apartment."
"Oh, you’re at your apartment."
Mr. Walsh’s voice was clearly tinged with disappointment. He cut straight to the chase, "So, how did your talk with Noah Sterling go this afternoon?"
"Well... it might have been a misunderstanding, but I’m not sure. We haven’t broken up, for now."
Sherry felt that this wasn’t technically a lie.
After all, she still had to accompany the man to his class reunion next week.
’If I say we broke up now, I’ll have to explain myself if we’re seen together next week.’
"Are you sure it’s a misunderstanding?" Mr. Walsh said directly. "Don’t you worry about his status or position. Your old man hasn’t been getting by in Veridia all these years for nothing. If he dares to bully you, you can do whatever you want. I’ve got your back!"
Ultimately, Mr. Walsh was just afraid his daughter would be wronged.
Sherry clutched her phone, her nose tingling for some reason. "Dad, I know. If he dares to bully me, I definitely won’t let him get away with it!"
"If you two haven’t broken up, find some time for all of us to have a meal together. With us there, we can also see what his attitude is like."
Mr. Walsh added that he was still worried.
This was the first time in all these years that Sherry had a boyfriend.
He was afraid she would get her heart broken.
"Well, uh, let’s wait until our relationship is a little more stable. I’ll ask him then."
Sherry casually made up an excuse.
"Alright."
Mr. Walsh agreed.
Just then, Mrs. Walsh asked from the side, "Ask our daughter what she had for dinner."
Mr. Walsh relayed the question.
Sherry looked at the instant noodles in front of her and said awkwardly, "I ordered takeout."
She couldn’t cook. On workdays, a designated cafeteria delivered her meals.
When she was home by herself, it was either takeout or instant noodles.
It was convenient.
And she didn’t have to do the dishes.
Mrs. Walsh sighed. "Sigh, you should come home when you’re free. Mom can cook for you, or we can have the housekeeper cook for you."
This "housekeeper" was the Walsh Family’s nanny. She had been with the family for many years and was a great cook.
By the time she hung up with her parents, her instant noodles were ready.
Sherry watched the variety show while eating her noodles.
She had just taken a bite.
The phone rang again.
Thinking it was her father with something else to say, she answered and asked, "Dad, is something else up?"
There was a brief silence on the other end.
After a moment, a young man’s voice replied, "It’s Noah Sterling."
"..."
Sherry swallowed the noodles in her mouth before reluctantly tearing her gaze away from her tablet to look at her phone screen.
The name Noah Sterling was right there on the screen.
"Kent Phelps just messaged me. The venue’s been booked. It’s a resort in the suburbs where we can barbecue and fish."
Noah Sterling stated the purpose of his call to ease the awkwardness.
"Got it, got it."
Sherry slurped up another mouthful of noodles.
"It’s for two days over the weekend. We’ll go on Saturday and come back Sunday."
Noah added.
Sherry’s mouth was full of noodles, so she couldn’t speak right away.
After struggling to swallow the noodles quickly, she finally managed to speak. "Two days?! What do you mean? We have to stay overnight?! We’re not staying in the same room, are we?"
"Yes, that’s the plan."
"Then I’m not going."
Sherry’s refusal was sharp and final.
Afraid he would try to persuade her, she added, "Our relationship is fake. It’s mutually beneficial. Having a meal together and pretending is one thing, but sleeping together is absolutely out of the question!"
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line.
Sherry assumed the man was trying to think up some devious plan to force her to go.
’How am I going to refuse him?’ she wondered, her mind racing.
After a moment, Noah spoke. "Alright, then. I understand. I’ll explain it to them."
"Huh?"
Sherry was taken aback.
