Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 38: Nathan Fawcett’s Imperial Status
Nathan Fawcett was still unconscious.
The butler was stopping him from kicking Anne Sutton out, so he could only wait for Nathan Fawcett to wake up before asking for a clear explanation.
Nathan Fawcett hadn’t woken up yet, but Sean Sutton had arrived.
The moment he walked in, he saw the Chairman and approached him. "President Fawcett," he said.
Chairman Fawcett looked at him and said, "So you finally decided to show up! Look at this fine daughter you’ve raised!"
Seeing how furious Chairman Fawcett was, Sean Sutton’s gaze fell on Anne Sutton.
Anne Sutton was sitting in a chair. Everyone else was standing; she was the only one seated.
Sean Sutton strode over to her. "What is wrong with you? How did you make Chairman Fawcett so furious? Anne, you’re part of the Fawcett Family now. You should be obedient. What kind of scene are you making?"
Sean Sutton’s voice was loud. He rarely interacted with Chairman Fawcett, so the fact that the Chairman had personally called him today was proof of just how furious he was.
He wouldn’t dare offend the Fawcett Family!
If he offended them, not even his good relationship with Charles Prescott’s father could save him.
So, naturally, the first thing he did upon arriving was to give Anne Sutton a harsh scolding.
Anne Sutton looked at her father. ’How did I offend the Fawcett Family? Isn’t it all because of Charles Prescott?’
’He was the one helping Charles Prescott before!’
’He wasn’t afraid of offending the Fawcett Family back then!’
Of course, this was something she could never say in front of Chairman Fawcett.
Sometimes, when she looked at her father, his anger seemed genuine.
But if something truly happened to the Sutton Family, she, Sharon, and their mother would all suffer.
She was well aware of that fact.
Chairman Fawcett glanced at Anne Sutton. "I don’t want to get involved in your business with Charles Prescott. You can sort that out with him yourself. The Fawcett Family is not a place for you to cause trouble! If this keeps up, you’re going to be the death of my son."
’First, she angered him enough to land him in the hospital, and now she’s made him pass out.’
At this thought, Chairman Fawcett was truly unwilling to let Anne Sutton take even a single step closer to Nathan Fawcett.
Hearing this, the butler stepped forward. "Chairman," he said.
He was frantic. He thought he’d already made things clear to the Chairman, but who would have thought he’d try to kick Anne Sutton out again.
But the moment the butler opened his mouth, the Chairman cut him off. "Shut your mouth. I put you by Nathan’s side to take care of him. Is this how you do it? You’re completely useless!"
Hearing this, the butler quickly shut his mouth.
Chairman Fawcett turned to Sean Sutton. "This is no way to raise a daughter. Take her home and discipline her properly!"
Hearing this, Sean Sutton glanced at Anne Sutton. He had no idea what she had done wrong, but he knew apologizing was the right move. "I’m sorry," he said. "I’ll take her home and teach her a good lesson. I guarantee nothing like this will ever happen again."
After speaking, he shot a look at Anne Sutton. "Let’s go! Now!"
’Taking Anne home is for the best,’ he thought. ’This way, I’ll have an easier time explaining things to Charles Prescott.’
’Letting Anne stay with Nathan Fawcett was too risky. The man didn’t have much time left, and with his notorious reputation, Sean Sutton truly didn’t dare to get entangled with such a son-in-law.’
’It was better to just take his daughter home now and save himself the trouble.’
Anne Sutton glanced at her father, then thought of Nathan Fawcett. ’He ran downstairs to find me. If I leave now, knowing his personality, won’t he cause a huge scene when he wakes up?’
Anne Sutton turned to Chairman Fawcett. "I can go home, but... can I wait until Nathan Fawcett wakes up before I leave?"
Chairman Fawcett stared at her. "You think you haven’t done enough harm to my son? And you still want to stay? Do you really think I’d give you that chance?"
After saying this, he glanced at Sean Sutton. Sean Sutton got the message, grabbed Anne Sutton’s arm, and started to pull her away.
Just then, the door to the patient room opened. Nathan Fawcett emerged, one hand braced against the wall as he looked at the people in the hallway.
Seeing this, the butler rushed over to support him. "Sir..."
"Nathan!" Chairman Fawcett hurried over as well. Looking at his son, he asked, "Son, are you okay? Why are you out here? You should be lying down in bed."
Nathan Fawcett shot him a look. "If I didn’t come out now, you would have driven my wife away!"
With that, he looked at Anne Sutton. "Come here."
Sean Sutton watched this unfold, unsure of what to do.
Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett, then at his father standing beside him, and hesitated, wondering if she should go over.
"Anne Sutton, are you deaf?" Nathan Fawcett demanded.
His tone was sharp.
Still, Chairman Fawcett wanted to kick her out, yet Nathan insisted she stay.
"I’m afraid that if I go over to you, the Chairman will take it out on my family," Anne Sutton said.
’After all, for a nobody like her, just trying to survive in the cracks, one misstep could lead to the Sutton Family’s bankruptcy.’
Hearing Anne Sutton’s words, Nathan Fawcett turned to Chairman Fawcett. His voice was dangerously low. "Phillip Fawcett, since when do you have the right to interfere with my people?"
He was so furious he had used his own father’s full name.
Seeing this, Chairman Fawcett turned to Anne Sutton and snapped, "Well? Aren’t you going to come over?"
He might be a tyrant to the outside world, but in front of his son, he always gave in.
After all, Nathan Fawcett had less than two months to live. Chairman Fawcett naturally wanted his son to be as comfortable as possible.
No matter what kind of trouble Nathan caused, he would indulge his son.
Seeing that Chairman Fawcett had relented and that Nathan Fawcett was being so defiant, Anne Sutton had no choice but to walk over.
’His health was so fragile; she was genuinely afraid he might just drop dead.’
As she approached, Nathan Fawcett held out his hand for her to support him.
Chairman Fawcett said, "Nathan, go lie back down. The doctor said you need complete bed rest. Do you have any idea? The moment I heard you collapsed, I rushed straight over. I didn’t even have time to eat dinner."
The butler and Anne Sutton helped Nathan Fawcett back to the bed. Once he was lying down, he turned to Chairman Fawcett and said, "You can get lost now. I don’t want to see you."
’This whole mess today was his old man’s fault.’
Nathan Fawcett was in a foul mood. After all, he still hadn’t had anything to eat.
Sean Sutton hadn’t met Nathan Fawcett many times before. Nathan didn’t get involved with the company’s business, and unlike Charles Prescott, he wasn’t often out negotiating deals. He spent most of his time either in the hospital or at home.
He’d never expected him to act this way in front of his father.
It was simply...
It was a dynamic where he was basically walking all over his father.
For a moment, Sean Sutton even began to doubt if the Chairman Fawcett before him was truly the same man rumored to be so powerful he could command the winds and the rain.
’Out in the world, who would dare to cross him?’
Chairman Fawcett looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "Nathan, I heard it was Anne Sutton who angered you and put you in the hospital. That’s why I wanted to send her away, so you wouldn’t get upset seeing her. But now you insist on her staying... Dad really doesn’t understand."
"I don’t need to explain my affairs to you," Nathan Fawcett said.
"Nathan..." Chairman Fawcett pleaded. "No matter what, I’m still your father. At least let me save some face in front of other people."
"If you want to save face, then get out," Nathan Fawcett retorted. "If you ever try to kick her out again, you’ll see how I settle the score with you!"
