Master Of None
Chapter 2873. Slowing Down
"Gil, what have you been working on lately?" After calming down a bit, everyone was relaxing. They weren’t slacking off, most of the workers in the academy grounds were also taking a longer lunch as ordered by the supervisors. It was just a way to keep everyone happy and driven.
"I have been making compounded arrows." Seeing that Walker was showing some interest, Gil didn’t hold back, he even seemed to be a little too excited.
"You know how when you or a mage makes denser and denser mana compress in to a spell? Or when they merge the elemental manas to make a different more powerful spell? I want that but with my arrows. Not just a fire wind arrow that makes a bigger attack, I want a truly more enhanced arrow that can carry five or six manas if I want. Or an incredible amount of mana without breaking itself."
The idea that Gil was trying to rake all of his arcane marksman ability and make this happen was odd. Especially since he was also not purely a crafter for arrows. He had the skills to make himself magical arrows because that was the arcane aspect of his class. It also fit with the high elf bloodline running through his body.
"If I can do that I can cut down on having thousands of arrows and maybe just have a few, you know?" Walker didn’t see the point much anymore since the variety of arrows that Gil had were too many to count.
"You have arrows that make ice, that can heal, that flash and blind, so you had Alma help you make that grow vines, and even arrows that can cause small earthquakes in a small area. What else do you need?" When Remey looked up and questioned him, Gil was sitting there looking at her like she was losing her mind.
"You have potions for healing, for regaining mana, and for purifying poisons, what else do you need? Why do you need so many?" Gil shook his head and brought out several arrows.
"The materials used in these arrows allow for there to be more mana infused within them, so I started to change the archery techniques and try to influence the same flow that I have with the high elven dagger techniques. I managed to draw in natural mana and even infuse certain mana in to these arrows. But then they lose balance because I don’t know how lightning should balance, how volcanic mana could balance, or even how a tsunami might work since apparently they are partly made by earth in nature too?"
He looked somewhat defeated while he looked at Walker. Meanwhile, Walker could only think about how he still sensed the manas mixed in to these arrows. He wasn’t just shocked that the lower quality materials had even allowed larger amounts of mana to be imbued within them. He was more shocked that Gil had managed to incorporate multiple manas and fully develop a skill related to the high elf dagger technique. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"Why don’t you do what mages do more often? I know you meditate even though Alma calls it sleeping." Su chuckled a little while she thought about how Alma yelled at Gil just the other day for sleeping on a tree branch instead of helping with paperwork related to the trade coming from the forest elf city.
"Oh you would love that, wouldn’t you? But shouldn’t you meditate then? You stopped training with the other draconic guardians and dragon champions because they are too weak to handle those elemental armor sets you keep swapping to. They also said that you use your shields unfairly by coating them in different elemental flames now? Apparently your dragon breath skill is better than before."
As the teasing intensified, Walker understood that the connection Su had with Midnight allowed her to grow faster when Midnight trained something too. And with the pair always training their skills together when they had a free chance, they had both grown a lot in terms of using other versions of dragon breath.
Midnight alone had a significant power when considering how much mana she could hold within her body. It would easily be just as strong as the royal dragons now if they were to compare their elemental dragon breaths side by side.
As Onyx was about to speak out about how he had seen the two spar and Remey step in with a potion that made a white smoke nearly impossible to see through, there was a slight crack of stone that drew everyone’s attention.
Looking over, they saw the ground crack as a spire of crystal was pushed upwards from the ground. Before they could shout for someone to give them answers, the ground broke apart even more and several miners crawled out of the hole. Their eyes were focused on the larger crystal that they and a few of the dwarven golems were pushing up to the surface.
"Good timing! We found a crystal mine, they are all perfectly formed crystals and we can use it for the academy!" Looking at the snacks and how they technically could spend more time eating, the entire party felt like they had pushed fate a little too much by relaxing. They should have remembered that they really never got a chance to relax with the lives they lived.
’Purple lumi crystal
This is a rare crystal that grows in complete darkness. It will repel most manas but absorb light mana due to its natural form. It is not able to be used the same as a mana gem or mana crystal, however, they can retain light mana to release in ways that allows better development of light mana resistance.
This is a formation of crystals that is very tough to discover since they can be considered easily breakable without the proper tools and skills to mine them. Monsters will rarely bother to consume them because their sharp edges will damage internal organs easily.
There are a few monsters that will live around them if discovered, however, they are mostly extinct due to over hunting and the fact that their lifecycle is very short. This does not...’
"Not a single crystal caterpillar to be seen there either. Perfect for using as a training area. We just need to make sure light can flow through this larger crystal and in to the mine. Perfect, perfect, perfect." The miner that had been clearing space for the underground training areas of the academy was joking and celebrating this find.
While it was not a find that would make them rich, it was one that would win them some respect from the other miners. Specifically because he had found it and managed to extract crystal from it without damaging it. And a larger than average specimen too. It was pride and a trophy.
There was also the benefit that they would be able to use all of this to help the academy meaning that it would be spoken and used for years and years. Who wouldn’t want to brag about that?
"If we go and look at this mine, we might find more work, won’t we?" Remey looked skeptical since she knew full well that every single time something like this happened they all ended up working harder.
"I will handle this one. Everyone else, find your own work since it seems like everyone doesn’t intend to take a break." Su gestured to those also taking their breaks. They were all standing up excited to keep working and make themselves known too.
"Fine then. I will go back and help everyone else. But I have new potions to try out later and they will be great." The grumbling that left Remey’s mouth made Walker and Gil wonder if she was actually plotting a fight and not testing some potions. Then again, sometimes those two things were the very same thing.
As much as Walker didn’t want to work and wished to focus on other things, he had to admit that slow moments like this felt nice. But he had to refocus himself. He had said he would work on trying to teleport better. To teleport to the elemental planes from the world.
So, if he helped Gil understand the mixing of manas while splitting his attention toward space mana, then maybe he could better strengthen his mind to handle the pressure of potentially teleporting himself and others to the elemental planes. It was more so a matter of knowing when he as an origin race member could potentially grow strong enough to do so.
But he saw the potential in it. Whether that was some time mana reacting within him or not didn’t matter. It was a goal that he had so he would chase after it now and not later.
