Chapter 2877: 2877. The Core

Focusing on the crackling of scales as they fell off Midnight’s body, Onyx was somewhat shocked. He could be surprised by the fact that all that dense mana had suddenly calmed and been released in a pulse around him. But it was the fact that the odd form of shell that had been created by that mana had been absorbed and then dissipated allowing for him to see a version of Midnight he was unfamiliar with.

The cracked scales were falling off her body slowly revealing nearly perfectly polished black scales that flared with various colors of mana from breath to breath. Midnight hadn’t truly grown much larger, in fact, she had slimmed down becoming more condensed and seemingly more agile.

However, as she opened her eyes and took deeper breaths, more scales fell revealing the perfectly in line scales all over her dragon body. Her tail appeared slimmer and sharper while her claws had a deadlier glint along them.

Her eyes were still focused, but there was both warmth and threat in them now. A warning if anyone or anything were to look within them, they may just find themselves seeing that last thing of their life.

Her teeth were sharper and a few new ones crowded her mouth while she spit some teeth she had shed away out.

After a larger shake, Midnight fully revealed herself and the horns that now slicked back and clearly held denser mana. It seemed that they were dissipating extra mana so that it would not bring her body any harm. The entire process had made a lot of mana condense within her making it important that she expel excess mana regardless.

With a single step forward, Midnight found herself leaping in to the air and her wings unfurling from her back. They stretched out and released a few more broken scales. The radiant coloration of manas bleeding off of her wings before calming showed that Midnight could easily wreath her body in different manas to protect herself even better now.

The true reason she ended up that high in the air being her lack of control in her own strength though. This break throguh had changed her body enough that she had to take the chance to relearn it. Find the limits of her strength so that she would not accidentally use too much force here and there.

Onyx knew this was the case as he looked where her claws had dug in to the ground and gouged out the earth unintentionally.

When Midnight returned to the ground, she took a step toward Onyx using her skill to take a dragonkin form, however, it was radically different from how she had looked before.

Her scales didn’t show on her arms and her nails were not long at all with any relation to her being able to have talons. She still kept a small pair of wings on her back and a tail, although her tail was thinner. But she seemed more human like to Onyx rather than dragonkin like. She even seemed more radiant and alluring if those words could be used.

"I would assume you succeeded in some way or another?" Onyx didn’t want to ask if she had actually formed the dragon core that she believed she could obtain through this process. He also believed that if things went this well from the outside looking in that she had managed to find a similar path or new path for dragons to grow in to regardless of success in one aspect. So, it was all good news no matter what.

"Sucess." Midnight waved her hand and allowed for Onyx to view her information. Not all of it, but the information pertaining to what she had achieved and the new title she held.

’Origin dragon core

This core is condensed using the very bloodline of a dragon. It requires the utmost care through the young ages of the dragon attempting to achieve a dragon core. Due to this, it is often recommended to have string bonds formed with powerful figures so that they can guide the mana along the bones, blood veins, and mana channels within the body. This will keep the manas from destroying the body instead of enhancing it.

Through enhancement, the life and death mana within the body will resonate causing the body to become more durable while also channeling the purification of the dragon bloodline. This removes the need for the heart as a while while converting it in to a dragon core.

This is the very core of the dragon and houses their soul. It is similar to soul related dragons that fuse their souls with their physical bodies. Where it is different is the quality and rounds of purification needed. Many manas need to be absorbed to gain strength over time allowing for the age of the dragon after this process to potentially be without limit as long as they are careful with their growth and form potent bonds with those that they trust.

Upon gaining this core, the dragon in question will have better ability to manipulate all manas they have affinities with. They will be more resistant and physically stronger. There is also an enhancement of resonance with the mana around them allowing them to create unique domain skills and even take hold of manas around them when exerting their full force.

They can store very large amounts of mana within their body to utilize at any time while also being able to resist various poisons and venoms much better than any other form of dragon younger or weaker than themselves.

This is a lost art and considered something that even the oldest dragons of the world do not remember. Those who succeed within the greater elemental planes in creating an elemental dragon core are few and far between.’

He could tell she was still a true dragon champion, but this origin drain core had to be related to the fact that Walker and his race caused a lot of potential changes to Midnight’s body as a whole. Onyx knew that his bond with Walker helped him a lot when he was growing and forming his own race.

Being an origin being or member of the origin race allowed Walker a lot more strength and influence than what Onyx believed Walker realized. Case and point was that this right here had not been something normal.

The description of the origin dragon core alone was like gaining a massive boost to everything that Midnight was. Even better, it also acted as a title because that defined part of her trials she had overcome.

Learning that there were elemental dragon cores too proved that Midnight possessed one that was extremely unique even amongst the most unique that it could possibly be. More proof that she had gained a great amount from all of this.

The benefits that came along with it being physical and internal also surprised him. Her smaller and more elegant appearance was due to her body being more condensed and purified. The same for her dragonkin form which was more human, most likely partially due to her wishing to look more like the rest of the party when she took that form too.

All things together and taken in to account, Midnight hadn’t just succeeded, she had found a way for the other dragons to return to being able to form their own dragon cores. Things that had been lost to the race over time. So much so that they didn’t even remember it.

Meaning that it would have been the most ancient of dragons back in the ages of battle and wars where those who would know such things must have been entirely wiped out or refused to pass it on.

"If you decide to share what you did today and how to do it, you may start a whole new rush for the dragon race to grow." Midnight smiled softly thinking about how she could stand as her own teacher and pillar for the dragon race. She had been helping the hatchlings so much that it felt like she was becoming a babysitter and not a member of the dragon race.

She might be young compared to the royal dragons, but she could fight them head on without too much effort. She was strong and her strength deserved respect even from the elders who she had never met before.

What onyx did not fully grasp right that moment was that Midnight now radiated a lot more strength. Strength that basically told another dragon’s instincts that she was above them. A champion with power to be respected no matter the cost.

It was something that she would have to learn to hold back so they didn’t terrify the hatchlings and cause a little disturbance with the elder dragons. For now though, Midnight was seemingly ready for a very long nap.
