Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One
Chapter 229 - 96: Mutual Pursuit (Part 4)
They all actually saw that this Lady S indeed had some devilish qualities, though they just refused to admit it.
The female assassin sitting on the far right motorcycle suddenly said, "The Manor Master’s order is to bring Lady S back to the Beast Fighting Arena. If we can’t complete the mission, what do you think will happen to us?"
"Can we decide whether to chase or not?"
A person who fails a mission is just waste. Waste will be thrown into the Beast Fighting Arena to slaughter each other.
They are not afraid of death, but they fear being tortured to death.
After all, they were puppets who signed a life-and-death pact with the Beast Fighting Arena since childhood.
The captain immediately made up his mind and said, "No matter how evil she is, she’s still just one person. Pursue!"
"Yes!"
The five rode into the overgrown abandoned road, chasing in the direction Xu Xingguang fled, following the tire tracks.
It wasn’t long before they left human habitation behind and entered the No-man District of the Kunze Mountain Range.
Inside the No-man District, it looked peaceful and serene, but it was eerily quiet. The leader stopped, looked up at the sky, and saw the moon had slipped into the clouds at some point.
Meanwhile, the sun seemed to have risen.
Yet, the forest had no light.
This is the No-man District of the Kunze Mountain Range, perpetually shrouded in thick clouds overhead, blocking all network signals. Countless adventurers have left their lives here.
The leader took out his phone and saw that the network signal was very weak, just one bar. He said, "We can’t pursue any further."
The others didn’t speak, but it was clear they agreed with the leader’s opinion.
"Lady S’s vehicle is still moving forward," the female assassin pointed to the tire marks on the ground, frowning, "So many explorers and geographers have entered the No-man District of the Kunze Mountain Range, but not a single one has come out alive. Lady S going deeper into the No-man District, it doesn’t look good for her."
"We can go back directly and inform the Manor Master that Lady S went deep into the No-man District," the young assassin said. "The Manor Master shouldn’t blame us once he knows this."
The leader nodded and said, "Let’s go back first and see what the Manor Master says."
"Alright."
The five turned their motorcycles around and prepared to return.
As they turned, they were terrified by the monster that suddenly appeared behind them.
Behind them, somehow, a black monster about thirty meters tall had appeared. It had a pair of strange wings, and its eyes flickered with a ghostly blue light, looking like a mutated giant bird.
"Holy crap!"
The young assassin blurted out, "Holy crap."
"A monster! There’s really a monster in the Kunze Mountain Range!"
Upon hearing the word ’monster,’ the leader’s expression turned extremely grim. "Open fire!"
All five drew their submachine guns and fired a barrage at the black monster. But bizarrely, before the bullets could near it, a giant fan-shaped glowing net appeared in front of it.
The giant net blocked all the bullets; they couldn’t harm it at all.
"No more bullets!"
They were just ordered to pursue Lady S. There was no way they expected to encounter such a monster, so they hadn’t brought enough ammunition.
Without bullets, it was the black monster’s turn to act.
The black monster opened its mouth wide and let out a screech, spewing a scorching blue flame at them.
"Run!"
The five scattered in a fan shape, fleeing in different directions, abandoning their vehicles and guns.
*
After confirming the five had rushed into the heart of the No-man District, Xu Xingguang finally opened the black monster’s hatch and jumped out.
"Eagle Sparrow."
Upon hearing Xu Xingguang’s call, Eagle Sparrow suddenly vanished from the spot, returning to her bracelet.
Xu Xingguang stared at the bracelet, dazing for a moment before sighing, "After ten lifetimes of reincarnation, obtaining you was worth it."
She looked up at the dense dark clouds overhead for a while and then took out her phone.
Seeing the voice message she sent last night had been successfully delivered to Huo Wen’an, she felt at ease.
A while ago, Xu Xingguang had been browsing through the "Ancient Medicine Transmission" and saw inside a record saying that in ancient times, someone had seen an ’Earth Dragon’ in a secluded pool at the center of the Kunze Mountain Range’s heart.
In traditional Chinese medicine, earthworms are called Earth Dragons. But in the Ancient Medicine Transmission, the Earth Dragon is actually a type of eight-legged fish that shows a milky white body underwater and turns into a green body on land.
