Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One
Chapter 271 - 104: Jiang Heng and Bai Xi, Encounter at the Mausoleum (Part 5)
These things, Xingguang knew long ago.
But to her, Bai Yusheng’s death while protecting his daughter was merely a sealed piece of information, a recorded text.
Yet for Bai Xi, it was an indelible pain from her childhood.
Without experiencing it firsthand, one cannot truly empathize.
Xingguang, as an outsider, just listening to Bai Xi’s description, felt suffocated. Then, as the person involved, how much pain must Bai Xi have felt in her heart?
She still clearly remembers the scene when Bai Yusheng passed away, how painful must her childhood and adolescence have been?
Does she always dream of her father’s resentful face at midnight?
Does her father’s death wrap around her like a curse, pressing down on every nerve?
No wonder Bai Xi looked so gloomy and dejected at her book signing event years ago.
"If you feel sorry for him, you must live your life as colorful as possible," Xingguang reassured Bai Xi with a smile, saying, "Whenever you see something beautiful, remember to look at it a few minutes longer than ordinary people. When you encounter something delicious, eat a few more bites than usual. When something makes you laugh, remember to laugh a bit longer."
"Because you are the continuation of your father’s life, you must help him continue to love this world."
"Do you understand?"
Listening to Xingguang’s words, Bai Xi’s face was suddenly awash with tears.
She parked the car at the roadside, leaned her face against the steering wheel, and suddenly burst into sobs.
Xingguang quietly watched her, not disturbing her.
After a while, Bai Xi stopped crying.
She wiped her face with a tissue and said, embarrassed, "Sorry, Teacher Xu. Apart from Zhouzhou, you’re the only one who makes me want to love life more passionately."
"Oh?" Xingguang asked her, "What attitude do your other family members have?"
Bai Xi’s eyes changed slightly, and she crumpled the tissue and threw it into the car garbage can. She said, "They think I am a jinx."
"Ha." Xingguang sneered, "When everyone considers you a jinx, why not just be a jinx once?"
"Wipe them all out, then they’ll have nothing to say."
Bai Xi was dumbfounded.
Thinking about it, she felt that Xingguang indeed could say such things.
After all, she always exacts revenge on her enemies without mercy.
"Teacher Xu is indeed impressive."
Talking to Xingguang along the way, Bai Xi felt much lighter. "Ahead is the cemetery. When we get there, let’s act separately."
"If Teacher Xu has nothing else to do, you can wait for me outside the cemetery, and we can go back to the hotel together."
Xingguang then said, "I have other things to do, so you can go back by yourself."
"Alright."
Bai Xi dropped off Xingguang outside the parking lot and watched Xingguang carrying flowers into the cemetery. Only then did she park the car inside.
The cemetery was quite crowded in the morning, and the parking lot was almost full, leaving only the vacant spot at the end of the garage.
Bai Xi drove Cheng Xizhou’s car today, a white Maserati. Afraid of scratching the beloved car, she backed in carefully.
Next to the vacant spot was a Rolls Royce.
Bai Xi grew even more nervous.
In her nervousness, she just couldn’t park properly.
Knock knock.
Someone knocked on the window.
Bai Xi pressed the window glass down and saw a tall man outside. He lowered his head slightly, peering inside to look at Bai Xi and quietly asked, "Need help?"
Jiang Heng had lost a lot of weight, and he looked much different from his appearance in business magazines. Bai Xi didn’t recognize him.
Seeing someone willing to help her, Bai Xi breathed a sigh of relief.
"Thank you!"
Bai Xi quickly got out of the car, letting Jiang Heng help move it.
Jiang Heng was skilled; he parked the car in the garage in no time, neat and precise.
Bai Xi thanked him again.
Jiang Heng said, "No problem, the space is a bit tight, hard to park."
Seeing that the other party didn’t disparage her poor parking skills, Bai Xi relaxed again. She took the yellow roses from the back seat and walked out of the parking lot.
Jiang Heng followed behind.
Bai Xi walked into the cemetery and noticed Jiang Heng still trailing her. She turned to ask him, "Are you visiting an elder too?"
Nodding, Jiang Heng said, "My father-in-law is buried here."
Bai Xi glanced at Jiang Heng’s empty arms, wondering why he’d come empty-handed to pay respects.
Though curious, she didn’t ask questions.
Jiang Heng seemed to see what Bai Xi was thinking. He said, "My mother-in-law and her partner are ahead; they’ve taken everything over."
"I see."
Bai Xi turned and began walking up the steps.
Jiang Heng turned and walked up too.
Bai Xi suddenly stopped, turning to ask Jiang Heng, "Are you walking this way too?" She couldn’t help but suspect Jiang Heng might be a paparazzo, stalking her, trying to extort Cheng Xizhou.
Jiang Heng stared at the woman before him, her demeanor chilly and her gaze sharp as thorns. He felt amused. "Why else would I walk this way? Unless you think I’m a criminal?"
His straightforwardness made Bai Xi seem petty.
"Sorry, perhaps I’m overthinking."
Bai Xi shifted aside, saying to Jiang Heng, "Sir, please walk ahead." No woman would be comfortable with a stranger walking behind her.
Nodding, Jiang Heng briskly climbed the steps, heading upward.
Bai Xi silently followed after Jiang Heng.
