Mr. Law's Official Announcement: He is a Wife-Doting Fanatic!
Chapter 142: Has It Started Raining Red in the Sky?
Wyatt stared blankly at the distinguished and elegant figure in the living room, and for some reason, his eyes turned red.
He had been by the young master’s side for over twenty years, and apart from the now-deceased madam and miss, when had the young master ever cared about someone this much?
Tomorrow would bring endless busy work again, and no matter how healthy the young master was, he wasn’t a robot. How could he refresh himself without rest?
Wyatt wanted to remind Adrian Law that it was already two in the morning, but when the words reached his mouth, he couldn’t utter a single syllable.
In the end, he could only tiptoe to the washroom, and when he returned from the restroom, the figure in the living room was still sitting upright, seemingly without a hint of sleepiness.
Can one really be so obsessed when loving someone?
Wyatt sighed silently and finally tiptoed back to the guest room.
...
In the hall, Adrian Law pursed his thin lips, his expression somewhat somber as he stared at the small porridge that was still being kept warm.
He had specially cooked it for Cecilia Vaughn, worried she might feel hungry coming back so late at night.
But...
The man looked up at the wall clock not far away, his dark eyes circulating and gradually settling into tranquility.
So late, yet Cecilia still hadn’t returned.
As it turns out, what his mother said was true—waiting for the one you love to come home feels like a faint sweetness, a subtle tartness, mixed with a gentle anxiety.
Except his mother’s devotion was misplaced, whereas he knew his waiting was worthwhile.
Just as the man was lost in thought, suddenly a soft meow echoed into his ears.
"Meow..."
Adrian furrowed his handsome brow and turned his obsidian-like eyes towards the source of the sound.
He saw that Mimi, who should have been sleeping soundly in the room, had somehow leaped out of her little den.
The soft, snow-like body had visibly put on a bit of weight and had more glossy fur since being pampered like a precious master by Cecilia Vaughn for the past few days at Starfall Bay.
Adrian and this little creature had always been at odds, so they only stared at each other with big and small eyes, neither moving forward nor speaking.
Yet Mimi, unlike her usual tooth-baring and grinning self at him, gingerly extended her little paws and stepped towards Adrian.
"Meow... meow... meow~"
Seeing that the master didn’t retreat, the little white furball soon snuggled close to him, remarkably stopping just a step away.
Perhaps sensing the little creature’s goodwill, a flicker of light crossed Adrian’s dark eyes, and he became unexpectedly gentle.
"Mimi, are you missing Cecilia too?"
"Meow! Meow!"
As if responding to the master’s question, Mimi cleverly lifted her little paws and inched closer to Adrian, tentatively patting his pant leg.
The loneliness and chill in this man’s aura were palpable even to it.
The female owner, who usually lavished it with all sorts of treats and love, why hadn’t she come home yet?
Today, a strange man was staying on the third floor. Although Mimi had seen him before, it was the first time he’d settled at Starfall Bay, and Mimi found it unsettling, to the point that even Adrian seemed amiable.
...
Adrian, somewhat surprised, looked over at Mimi’s friendly gesture.
As Mimi leaned against Adrian’s leg, her odd-eyed gaze—one blue, one green—kept blinking, her clear eyes softening anyone’s heart.
Adrian was a bit of a neat freak; besides Cecilia Vaughn, he had always disliked contact, whether human or animal.
But at this moment, he suddenly felt that this little creature seemed to be comforting him?
The man couldn’t help but smile—since when did he need solace from a tiny animal?
Remembering how Cecilia Vaughn doted on this little one, Adrian found affection extending by association, and his eyes unexpectedly warmed.
"Good Mimi, Cecilia will be back soon."
Hesitating for a moment, Adrian finally reached out and gently stroked the fur on Mimi’s neck.
Magically, the little white furball, usually at odds with him, did not evade, but rather meowed with contentment, as if expressing joy.
If Cecilia Vaughn could see this scene, she’d definitely be so shocked her jaw would drop!
...
"Mimi, do you want to sleep first? I’m not sleepy; I’ll just wait for Cecilia."
As if it understood Adrian’s words, Mimi obediently nodded and curled up resting on Adrian’s leg.
Adrian pondered for half a second, then tugged a small blanket from the sofa nearby, gently covering the little white furball’s legs.
"Goodnight, Mimi."
"Meow~"
The little furball squeaked a final response before closing its eyes, a bit drowsy, its beautiful odd eyes shielded from light.
A man and a cat, bonding over a beloved woman, experienced an unspoken connection in that moment.
...
When Cecilia Vaughn returned, it was almost four in the morning.
She guessed that at this hour Adrian Law would be asleep in the bedroom, so she quietly opened the door.
Unexpectedly, almost as soon as she opened the door, she saw the man in the living room, propping his chin with one hand; their eyes met, and his phoenix-like gaze suddenly lit up, streaking like starlight across the sky.
"Cecilia, you’re back. Is Evan okay?"
"With Doctor Prescott there, Evan’s alright..."
Cecilia stared at him in daze, her heart stuck on something, sour and swollen.
"Adrian, were you sitting here waiting for me all this time?"
The answer was self-evident.
The man’s face showed the weariness of a sleepless night. He was always impeccable in appearance, but now his hair was slightly untidy, and there were red lines in his eyes. Even so, it couldn’t overshadow the elegance and prestige enveloping him.
"Yes, I’ve been waiting for you to come home."
Adrian looked at her with a faint smile, his eyes bright as stars.
"I’ve had insomnia these two days, but what about you? Are you hungry? Do you want to eat something first?"
He wouldn’t say that ever since he got used to having her in his embrace at night, he could no longer sleep peacefully alone.
Seeing the small porridge in the container still steaming, Cecilia’s eyes suddenly turned red.
Waiting for her to come home?
He sat through the whole night, worried she might be hungry...
Why is this man so good to her...
Even her mother wouldn’t go this far for her.
...
She initially wanted to say she wasn’t hungry, but her stomach betrayed her with a grumble.
"Cecilia, have something first to fill your stomach. You can rest again afterwards. You have to teach at Stellerton University at seven."
Cecilia had to sit down, and after tasting Adrian’s cooking, her tired spirit from the whole night strangely relaxed, soothed by the small porridge. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
"Adrian, you should rest too, at least you can still lie down for another three hours."
"Alright."
Adrian nodded readily, then picked up the little white furball from his legs.
!!!
Cecilia’s mouth gaped wide open. Earlier her attention was solely on Adrian, assuming what was on his legs was just a fallen white blanket. Who knew Mimi was there too.
"The two of you actually..."
Is it going to rain red rain from the sky?
While she was away, these two, always at daggers drawn, actually reconciled?
