Mr. Law's Official Announcement: He is a Wife-Doting Fanatic!
Chapter 158: Crossing Her Line
The man’s black trench coat draped over her, warming Cecilia Vaughn’s heart. She stroked the sleeve of the coat, which still carried his body heat.
No matter when or where, Adrian Law was always her warmest harbor.
Having such a husband made the previous ordeal of being used as a pawn by her grandfather feel less painful.
Perhaps, in this lifetime, her bonds with family were thin. Her mother passed away early, her younger brother required more of her care, and her grandmother was far away in Veridia City. As for the other members of the Vaughn Family, they were scars in her heart. Adrian Law descended into her life like a miracle, soothing her loneliness.
The girl’s eyes warmed slightly, and she gently wrapped her delicate hand around the man’s arm, her smile slowly blossoming.
"Alright, Adrian, let’s go home."
The man also smiled faintly, nodding, as the black umbrella imperceptibly tilted towards Cecilia Vaughn. His own shoulder being drenched didn’t concern him in the slightest.
To him, nothing was more important than the little woman before him.
...
When they reached the villa, Cecilia Vaughn finally noticed that Adrian Law’s left shoulder was soaked through.
"Oh, Adrian, your shoulder..."
She looked at the man in astonishment, her voice inadvertently carrying a hint of scolding.
"How old are you now, and you still can’t figure out which way to hold an umbrella?"
Knowing full well that the man had made sure she didn’t get a drop of rain on her, she couldn’t help but feel touched, yet a little annoyed at how he disregarded his own health.
Adrian Law smiled calmly, placing the large black umbrella beside the entrance.
"Cecilia, I’m a man. A bit of rain doesn’t matter."
His deep eyes held hers steadily, as his obsidian-like gaze overflowed with tenderness.
"Last time, when Zion checked your pulse, he said you have a cold constitution, so you’ll catch a cold if you get wet. No matter the reason, don’t do that foolish thing of standing in the rain again."
Did she ever want to get rained on?
The pain in her heart was so profound; she’d rather let her body endure some hardship for slight relief.
Cecilia Vaughn’s heart stung.
Grandfather’s furious reprimand seemed to still echo in her ears, causing the girl’s smile to gradually disappear, nodding somewhat reluctantly towards Adrian Law.
"Alright, I’ll be more careful. I’ll go upstairs to change and take a bath, Adrian, you should change your shirt too."
...
Watching the girl’s figure disappear around the staircase corner, the man’s deep eyes pondered what exactly was bothering his little wife so much.
She had only gone out with Mona Summers today, and Cecilia Vaughn should have been informed that Director Chapman was willing to adapt her comic. Why was she so upset over such a good thing?
Adrian Law couldn’t figure it out but guessed it likely involved the Vaughn Family or his own insufferable brother, Tyson Law.
To find out quickly, Adrian Law simply called Mona Summers.
He had already had Wyatt Law investigate all of Cecilia Vaughn’s details, so naturally, he knew she had a best friend she grew up with and had the number stored just in case of emergencies.
"Hello, are you a friend of Cecilia’s?"
Hearing the steady and elegant male voice on the other end, Mona Summers’ heart raced.
Goodness, the voice of the man on the other end was just too captivating!
Heavens know, she had an affinity for voices, and Adrian Law’s voice was more alluring than the male voice actors she often met at film sets!
Mona Summers’ heart trembled, and after calming herself, she answered.
"Hello, I’m Mona Summers. May I know who you are and what you need from me?"
Adrian Law succinctly stated his identity and explained Cecilia Vaughn’s unusual behavior upon returning home. Mona suddenly realized it was the Crown Prince of The Law Group who was calling her!
My goodness, a significant figure usually heard only in gossip would actually call her!
Mona Summers felt as though she was dreaming but quickly rejoiced for her friend’s good fortune in marrying the right person. Since The Eldest Young Master Law could notice such details, it showed he truly cared for her Cecilia.
Thus, Mona recounted everything that happened in the restaurant that afternoon.
...
After hanging up, Adrian Law’s expression suddenly darkened.
The tight line of his jaw signaled an impending storm.
Very well, Fiona Vaughn, Tyson Law, those two really had no fear, daring to bully his person!
Thinking about his little wife being distraught and rained on over her mother’s insult, the man’s lips tightened. He first went to the kitchen to find some ingredients, made some ginger tea with brown sugar, and searched for some cold medicine.
Cecilia had a cold constitution and couldn’t catch a chill.
...
When Cecilia Vaughn came downstairs after her shower, her eyes immediately caught the man sitting at the dining table and the steaming bowl of ginger tea with brown sugar.
Her expression softened, and a smile broke out at the corner of her lips.
"Our CEO is the best."
Adrian Law didn’t mind Cecilia Vaughn’s teasing. His face was slightly cold as he looked steadily at the girl.
"Cecilia, I know everything about this afternoon’s matters."
"Tyson Law and Fiona Vaughn humiliated your mother. They’ve destroyed what you cared about most, so I will make what they care about most become a joke."
Since this weekend was Fiona Vaughn and Tyson Law’s engagement party, he wanted to see if the event would proceed as they wished!
Cecilia Vaughn paused for a moment.
"Did you ask Mona?"
She put the half-drunk bowl of ginger and brown sugar tea aside. Though its taste was sweet and refreshing, right now, she tasted nothing but bitterness.
Cecilia Vaughn’s eyes lowered slightly, a sigh escaping her lips, her almond eyes flickering with sadness.
"Fiona Vaughn and Tyson Law slandering my mother’s reputation is something I cannot tolerate. It’s just that I didn’t expect my grandfather, who always doted on me, to make me attend their engagement and explain the misunderstanding to the media."
Even a bowl of steaming ginger tea couldn’t wash away the chill she felt, like having a bucket of ice water poured over her, every time she recalled her grandfather’s resolute tone sacrificing her.
Adrian Law hadn’t expected such a detail; looking at the girl’s indifferent, sorrowful eyes, his heart ached for her uncontrollably.
"Be good, Cecilia. If you don’t want to go, then don’t. I’ll take care of the engagement party."
The man’s voice was icy and ruthless, showing his genuine anger.
Yet, Cecilia Vaughn, hearing this, very seriously shook her head.
"No, Adrian, I will go."
Seeing his surprise, she tightly clenched her fist, speaking slowly but firmly.
"If I don’t go, I would be betraying my late mother."
There were few people she cared about in this life, and this time Fiona Vaughn and Tyson Law had crossed her bottom line!
Adrian Law pressed his lips together, contemplated for a moment, then nodded slightly.
"Alright, whatever you decide, remember, I’ll always be by your side."
...
Adrian Law lowered his head and tenderly enveloped the girl in his embrace.
"Cecilia, let’s not think about these vexing matters anymore. Today, I’ve prepared a gift for you. Can you guess what it is?"
Like performing a magic trick, the man suddenly pulled away the silk cloth on the table to reveal a velvet box over a meter long underneath.
