Chapter 1: The First Counter

The train was moving through Alkon City on a sunny afternoon.

The train was crowded with people sitting and standing.

People stood shoulder to shoulder, hands gripping the hanging straps as the carriage swayed. But there was something uncanny about the current situation.

Everyone was standing completely still, no one spoke loudly, complained or looked at others as one would expect in such a public place.

Everyone was just... there. Just like him.

One hand loosely held the overhead strap. His posture looked relaxed. Almost lazy. Like nothing around him really mattered.

If someone tried to describe him... they wouldn’t be able to. Not because he stood out. Because there was nothing to describe.

He had no presence and no face to begin with.

"...Yeah. I know how that sounds. Literally faceless."

He spoke casually like he was talking to someone right in front of him.

Or rather...

He was directly talking to us, breaking the 4th wall.

"Oh. You can hear me? Good."

"If you’re wondering who I am... or what I look like..."

"It’s not really important."

"I’m probably just... Mr. Nobody."

"On my way to work."

The train continued moving.

Like nothing had changed.

The train stopped at the station in Yongsan.

....

The doors opened with a soft mechanical sound.

People stepped in.

Among them...

A girl.

She rushed inside, slightly out of breath, holding a book tightly. Her eyes moved quickly, searching for space.

"Sorry... excuse me... side please..."

She moved too fast.

Her foot caught.

And then....she fell.

Thud!

The book slipped from her hand, sliding across the floor as her body hit the ground, making a dull sound. Not loud enough for anyone to react. So no one helped her.

Why would they? She was a stranger after all.

Except...him.

He saw.

"...Is no one going to help her?" The thought came quietly in his mind.

She pushed herself up slightly, brushing her hair back. Her eyes were clear as the sea and shiny as the stars. Alive in a way that didn’t match the rest of the train.

He kept staring.

Something felt... different about her.

His chest tightened. His heartbeat picked up.

"...What is this feeling....? Have I ever felt this before? Why are my cheeks warm...?"

Then....

Her voice cut through everything.

"How long are you going to stare?" the girl asked.

He froze because the girl was looking directly at him. Not through him. Not past him.

At him.

"Are you going to stand there... or are you going to help me?"

Even though she was a complete stranger, it felt as if they shared a natural bond somehow.

His mind went blank because no one was supposed to notice him.

No one ever did.

"...A hand would be nice, you know."

That was enough for his arm to move on its own to help her.

Without thinking much, she also grabbed his hand without any hesitation.

Her hand felt soft and warm.

He pulled her up.

She steadied herself, brushed off her clothes, then picked up her book.

"Thanks... Mister," she said, catching her breath. "Actually... it was my fault. I was in a hurry."

He didn’t respond. He was still processing what just happened.

Then she looked at him again with curiosity. "By the way... what’s your name, Mister?"

The question felt...a little strange for Nobody.

"My name...?Well...it’s not that important? But you can call me...Mr. Nobody."

"Mr. Nobody?" She blinked with confusion in her eyes. Then smiled slightly. "That’s a strange name you got, Mister"

She adjusted her grip on the book. "My name is Toma."

The name ’Toma’ stayed. It did not fade like other people around him.

That alone felt... abnormal.

....

!Ding

"We have arrived at the station."

The doors opened.

People moved again, flowing out like before.

Mr. Nobody adjusted the briefcase in his hand.

"...I have to go."

Toma blinked. "Oh..."

He stepped toward the door, then paused. "It was nice meeting you, Toma."

She smiled. A faint sadness was behind her smile.

"Bye bye.....Mr. Nobody."

The doors closed.

The train moved.

And she was gone.

....

The day passed like any other for him.

The office works following his usual routine.

But something felt...a little different.

Night came and the city shifted. The lights turned on with shadows stretching.

And somewhere in that darkness...Someone awakened.

A figure stood alone.

Not invisible anymore.

A pink bunny helmet covered his head, reflecting the city lights.

He looked almost ridiculous, like a circus joker.

But the presence behind it...Was not.

A red bike stood in front of him.

He placed one of his hand on it.

"...So this is it. My other side. My nightlife."

The world dimmed slightly.

Then....

The engine of the bike roared with great sound.

Vroom....Vroom....

He got on the bike.

And it shot forward.

Speed swallowed everything in his way.

The wind tore past him, dragging him away from that empty boring version of himself.

This time, he wasn’t being ignored. He wasn’t in the background anymore.

He was moving.

And that feeling...

"Where are you hiding?"

...Changed something.

"Come out, come out wherever you are, wrongdoers..."

The visor glowed faint red as if his eyes were glowing.

"Show yourselves."

[system window] New Targets Detected

The city stretched endlessly ahead.

The bike accelerated with more speed into the night.

Now Mr. Nobody...

Was no longer just nobody.

And this...

Was only the beginning.
