Mr.Nobody: I am inside a webcomic?!
Chapter 76: Campfire In Banana Jungle
The remains of the Golem Gorilla King lay scattered across the battlefield. Broken stone covered the ground. The jungle was finally quiet.
Mayra looked around and released a relieved sigh. "I guess that’s it."
Ethius stretched his arms. "Yeah. We defeated the boss monster."
Julias nodded confidently. "Which means we’ll probably be teleported to the next stage soon."
Nobody shrugged. "Works for me."
Mayra smiled. "At least we survived."
Julias laughed. "Of course, we survived."
The goblin warrior flexed both arms. "I’ll protect everyone."
Ethius rolled his eyes. "There he goes again."
Julias grinned. "No seriously." He stood proudly. "I feel like I’m in my prime right now."
Nobody chuckled. "Good to hear, bro."
Minutes passed. Then more minutes passed. But nothing happened. No notifications nor teleportation.
The group slowly exchanged looks.
Ethius blinked. "...Shouldn’t something happen?"
Nobody looked around. "Usually something happens."
Mayra tilted her head. "Maybe the tutorial is giving us time to rest." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮
Julias nodded. "Honestly, after that gorilla fight, I’ll take it."
Nobody sat on a nearby rock. "Same."
Another few minutes passed. Still nothing.
Mayra eventually stood up. "Let’s find somewhere safer."
Ethius nodded. "Good idea."
The battlefield still looked like a disaster zone. Broken trees surrounded them. Large craters covered the area.
Nobody pointed deeper into the jungle. "Let’s move."
The group started walking. The sun slowly descended beyond the horizon. Orange light faded from the sky. Darkness gradually spread throughout the jungle. The atmosphere changed completely.
The Banana Jungle that had seemed vibrant during the day now felt mysterious and quiet. Leaves rustled occasionally. Unknown creatures moved somewhere far away.
Nobody looked upward. "...Night already."
Mayra nodded. "We should stop soon."
After another twenty minutes of walking, they reached a small clearing surrounded by massive banana trees.
The location seemed relatively safe.
Mayra smiled. "This should work."
Ethius immediately began gathering sticks. "Camp time."
Julias helped move larger branches.
Nobody sat down. "I support this plan."
A few minutes later....a small pile of wood had been assembled. Mayra pointed her staff. A tiny flame appeared.
FWOOOSH.
The campfire ignited. Warm orange light spread throughout the clearing.
The atmosphere immediately became more comfortable.
Nobody stretched his arms. "Ahhh...This feels nice."
Julias sat beside the fire. "Much better than fighting that giant gorilla."
Ethius nodded. "And much better than being smashed by giant rocks."
Mayra laughed softly.
The tension from the battle slowly faded.
For the first time since arriving in this strange world, they could simply sit and relax.
Then....
Nobody’s stomach growled.
GRRRRRRR.
Everyone turned toward him.
Nobody coughed awkwardly. "...That wasn’t me."
GRRRRRRRR.
His stomach immediately betrayed him again.
Ethius pointed. "It was absolutely you."
Mayra giggled. Julias laughed loudly.
Nobody sighed. "Fine. I’m starving." Then suddenly his eyes widened. "...Wait."
The others looked confused. "What?"
Nobody slapped his forehead. "Oh damn. How did I forget?"
Ethius raised an eyebrow. "Forget what?"
Nobody stood up. "The shop. The system shop."
Everyone blinked. "The what?"
Nobody ignored them. His system window appeared before him. He quickly opened the shop menu.
Rows of items appeared.
[1] Weapons.
[2] Potions.
[3] Skills
[4] Food.
[5] Miscellaneous supplies.
[6]Faces (of course, prices are more high now)
Nobody scrolled through them. Then he found exactly what he wanted.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
[Basic Sandwich]
Cost:
20 Points
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Nobody grinned. "Perfect." He immediately purchased four.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
[Purchase Complete]
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Blue particles appeared.
FWOOOOSH.
Four wrapped sandwiches materialized in his hands.
The others froze.
Nobody casually handed them out. "Food delivery."
Mayra, Ethius, Julias stared in surprise.
Nobody stared back. "...What?"
Ethius slowly accepted a sandwich. "I don’t think I’ll ever get used to that."
Mayra nodded. "Neither will I."
Julias examined the sandwich. "It literally appeared out of nowhere."
Nobody unwrapped his own. "That’s what makes it convenient."
Ethius took a bite. Then his eyes widened. "...Wait...This is actually good."
Nobody grinned proudly. "System-certified cuisine."
Mayra laughed. The mage took a bite as well. "It’s surprisingly delicious."
Julias immediately started eating his. "Whoever invented your power deserves an award."
Nobody chuckled. "Trust me. It’s not as amazing as it sounds."
Ethius pointed at him. "Not amazing? Dude...! You can summon food. You have teleportation skill. You have weird combat skills. You carry around healing items. You literally bought life-saving medicine earlier."
Mayra nodded. "Your abilities are incredibly versatile."
Julias agreed. "You seem capable of handling almost any situation."
Nobody looked at the campfire. The orange flames reflected across his faceless features. For a moment, he became quiet. Then he spoke. "Maybe."
The others listened.
Nobody stared into the fire. "Maybe it looks like that from the outside." He paused. "But honestly..." His grip tightened around the sandwich. "My enemies are becoming stronger every single day."
Nobody continued. "First there were orc and shadow wolves. Then giant centipedes. Then a floating brain monster. And now giant slime and gorilla." He laughed weakly. "Every stage feels impossible at first."
Mayra lowered her gaze.
Nobody continued. "I survive one stage. Then the next one is worse. And the one after that is even worse."
Ethius slowly nodded. "I get that."
Julias listened quietly.
Nobody looked toward the dark jungle. "Sometimes I feel like the tutorial keeps finding new ways to kill me."
The others laughed. But they could tell he wasn’t entirely joking.
Nobody leaned back against a tree. "I’ve learned something, though."
"What?" The others said.
Nobody looked at his new companions. "Fighting alone sucks."
Mayra smiled.
Ethius nodded. "Agreed."
Julias laughed. "Then it’s a good thing you’re not alone anymore."
The campfire crackled softly.
CRACK.
CRACK.
For a while, nobody spoke. The group simply enjoyed the rare moment of peace.
Then Ethius suddenly pointed at Nobody. "You know, I still don’t understand something."
Nobody looked up. "What?"
Ethius took another bite of his sandwich. "How exactly did a faceless guy become one of the strongest people I’ve met?"
Nobody nearly choked. "Excuse me?"
Mayra laughed. "He does have a point."
Julias nodded seriously. "Actually, I’ve been wondering the same thing."
Nobody looked around. "Why is everyone attacking me?"
Ethius grinned. "We’re not attacking. We’re just asking. Very different."
Nobody sighed. "Fine. What do you want to know?"
Julias leaned forward. "Were you always strong?"
Nobody immediately shook his head. "Nope. Not even close."
Ethius blinked. "Really?"
Nobody nodded. "When I first entered the tutorial, I was getting chased by monsters."
Mayra laughed. "That’s still happening."
"...Good point."
The group chuckled.
Nobody continued. "I am terrified most of the time."
Julias looked surprised. "You don’t look terrified."
Nobody immediately answered. "That’s because I don’t have a face."
The campfire erupted with laughter.
Even Ethius nearly dropped his sandwich. "Okay. That was a good one."
Nobody crossed his arms proudly. "I know."
Julias smiled. "But seriously. What keeps you moving forward?"
The question made Nobody pause.
The fire crackled. The jungle remained quiet.
For a few moments, he didn’t answer. Then...
"My world."
The others looked at him.
Nobody stared into the flames. "I have people waiting for me." His voice became softer. Friends. People I care about."
A memory flashed through his mind. A pastry shop, a girl smiling while holding a camera. It was Toma.
Nobody smiled faintly. "I want to go back."
Mayra nodded. "I understand."
Ethius looked toward the stars. "Same."
Julias smiled.
"Then let’s survive together."
Nobody looked at him.
The goblin warrior extended a fist. "No dying."
Ethius immediately added his fist. "No dying."
Mayra smiled and joined. "No dying."
Nobody stared at the three fists. Then laughed. "You guys are really making a death flag right now."
"JUST JOIN."
"Okay okay." Nobody bumped his fist against theirs.
"No dying."
