Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!
Chapter 947: I Don’t Like Being Lied To
"Miles, I’m sorry, please don’t blame me, okay?" Gwen clutched Miles Sterling’s sleeve, crying and pleading.
Miles Sterling felt that Gwen hadn’t done anything substantially wrong. Even if she lied to him out of selfishness, from his discharge until now, Gwen had genuinely been taking care of him attentively.
He wouldn’t pursue the matter, but he wouldn’t live with Gwen as a husband anymore.
"You should go back, don’t worry about me. I’ll move back later."
Gwen hesitated with a startled expression, clutching Miles Sterling’s sleeve unwilling to let go, "Miles, please don’t leave, alright? We indeed didn’t have a foundation of feelings when we got married. I just wanted our marriage to move into the right track sooner, that’s why I lied to you."
Miles Sterling shook Gwen’s hand free, looking at her coldly, "I don’t like being deceived."
"I’m sorry, Miles. I know I was wrong. I indeed made up some lies, but I am truly your wife. I sincerely like you and want to spend my future with you. Considering how well I’ve treated you during this time, could you give me a chance?"
Gwen indeed accompanied him and treated him well, which was a fact. Miles Sterling hadn’t fully understood what had happened in the past, so he wasn’t too harsh with Gwen.
He only said, "Let’s talk about us after I’ve regained my memory. I can’t trust someone who has deceived me. Before I recover my memory, if I live with you again, how many more lies will you weave?"
Gwen hurriedly said, "I won’t deceive you anymore, Miles, I promise, okay?"
"Let’s talk about it later." Miles Sterling, leaning on a cane, left alone. Gwen wanted to follow him, but Miles Sterling shouted at her, "Don’t follow me."
Gwen stopped, crying profusely, "Miles, I’ll be waiting for you at home..."
Listening to Gwen’s aggrieved sobs, Miles Sterling still felt somewhat guilty towards her.
After all, during this period, Gwen had genuinely cared for him, while he hadn’t done anything for her. Most of the time, it was Gwen accommodating him.
But remembering the lies Gwen told him, Miles Sterling felt that such punishment was necessary.
Miles Sterling suddenly returned to The Sterling early in the morning, surprising Wendy Jennings who was playing morning mahjong at home.
She finished her mahjong round and went upstairs to check on the situation.
"Son?"
She cautiously opened the door, only to find it was locked.
No matter how she called, Miles Sterling wouldn’t come out to open the door.
This situation made her feel like the old Miles Sterling had returned.
Could it be that he’s regained his memory?
Wendy hurried downstairs to call Gwen for a situation update, fearing Miles Sterling would remember Vanessa Sterling and revert to his old, carefree ways, spending his days sluggishly in bars.
After Gwen explained the situation to Wendy, she felt slightly relieved.
After some contemplation, she sent her mahjong friends away and immediately called for servants to thoroughly clean any traces Vanessa Sterling might have left behind.
The room Vanessa Sterling used to live in had long been turned into a storage room, but some of Vanessa Sterling’s things inevitably remained.
Wendy instructed the servants at home to perform a thorough cleanup, discarding all unwanted items.
This included torn children’s storybooks in the closet and neglected, dust-covered, and stained dolls abandoned in the corners.
She even went to great lengths to change some of the home’s layout, fearing Miles Sterling would remember events from his childhood with Vanessa Sterling upon returning.
