My Ability Pool is Superior
Chapter 405 - 404: Return to the Shelter
The entrance of the civil defense project, outside the heavy rusted iron door, was surrounded by about twenty people.
"Boss, are you saying we’re going to raid the Underground City?"
Old Huang found it hard to believe and had to confirm once again.
Though he always said those guys holed up in the shelter were cowardly, traitors.
But the Speakers of these settlements were well aware that they absolutely couldn’t mess with the violent organs inside the shelters.
After all, under the Monan People’s control, they couldn’t even manufacture heavy weaponry themselves.
In such a sorry state, let alone breaking into the shelter to steal things, they couldn’t even open the iron door at the entrance.
Lv Bai waved his hand. He certainly didn’t expect these guys to deal with Cheng Zhiwu; he just brought them along because they had some muscle power.
"I’m not asking you to raid; you only need to be responsible for moving food."
After Lv Bai said this, he then created about a dozen clones and, using the same method he came with, lifted this heavy iron door weighing over a hundred tons.
Under his kind gaze, none of the people present dared to delay; they immediately lined up and entered the civil defense project in an orderly manner.
...
The clean, bright hallway was dominated by a silver color scheme, exuding a unique sci-fi vibe.
On one side of the hallway, there was a double-sided see-through window made of transparent glass material.
Inside was the control room of the tallest building in this Underground City.
Through this layer of glass, one could clearly see the control room was filled with numerous machine boxes, connected by intricately tangled cables to the data storage devices in the building’s underground levels.
Besides this, the most numerous inside the control room were, naturally, the exquisite screens, each displaying different images.
At first glance, it somewhat resembled a 1990s TV station, except the screen image’s clarity and texture were obviously much higher.
Xu Kun pushed up his glasses that almost slipped to the tip of his nose, turned and said to the man in a white lab coat next to him: "Engineer Li, want to grab a drink after the shift change?"
"Sure, since the alert’s been lifted, we ought to relax a bit."
The man called Engineer Li seemed to be fully focused on the data displayed on the screen, yet while maintaining his posture, he responded.
Another man of a rather plump physique suddenly raised his head: "You two aren’t inviting me for a drink, is that right?"
"Engineer Qian, come on, how could we? We’re just worried you haven’t finished your work."
Xu Kun first chuckled, then couldn’t help but sigh: "Talking about this gets me mad. You guys say that guy illegally broke in and used the Hermit Elevator, fine, but why drag me into it?"
"Didn’t Cheng Zhiwu’s side clear you afterward?" Engineer Li’s eyes still didn’t leave the screen.
"Yeah, they detected I was under some sort of thought-control Ability at the time, said there were no hazards, but you know our higher-ups’ character, right? Anyway, before Engineer Zheng is reassigned, my promotion is out of the question, and I probably won’t even get my year-end bonus."
Xu Kun felt increasingly aggrieved and wanted a drink even more.
It’s worth mentioning that although the trouble Lv Bai caused was unprecedented in the history of Shelter Number 9.
City Council there was more worried Lv Bai might go to the surface and do something impacting bilateral relations between humans and Monan People.
But the incident of Lv Bai taking the Hermit Elevator to the surface, the damage to the shelter was negligible.
The only thing needing reconstruction was a few isolation doors on the 404th floor.
Before the isolation doors were rebuilt, since a whole team of Cheng Zhiwu was guarding, other floors of the building were reopened shortly after a brief lockdown.
The internal staff continued as usual.
Engineer Qian raised his plump hand, patted Xu Kun’s shoulder, and comforted: "Tonight I’ll drink a few more with you."
Xu Kun was about to politely thank Engineer Qian’s kindness when the corner of his eye suddenly caught a glimpse of a new log popping up on the screen to his right.
After seeing the information in this work log, Xu Kun’s eyes widened sharply: "Damn, the Hermit Elevator’s starting up again? Are you kidding me?!"
Strictly speaking, it hadn’t been even three days since Lv Bai last illegally took the Hermit Elevator to leave the Underground City.
"Quick, Engineer Li, issue the alarm signal."
Engineer Qian subconsciously retracted his hand from Xu Kun’s shoulder, his voice slightly trembling: "Engineer Cai, are you still alright?"
Xu Kun was initially somewhat panicked, upon hearing this name, he didn’t care to panic anymore and his face turned sullen: "How many times do I have to say it, my surname is Xu."
The control room naturally wasn’t just the three engineers; with more people, panic spread easily. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Engineer Li had to bang the table to grab his colleagues’ attention with the noise.
"Why panic, calm down, don’t forget there’s a whole team of Cheng Zhiwu stationed on the 404th floor."
...
Shhh~
Following a hissing hydraulic valve sound.
The Hermit Elevator, which might not be used even once in a hundred years, had its doors reopened within three short days.
Fortunately, the inner space of the Hermit Elevator was large enough, with a rated seating capacity of a hundred; it could easily carry several hundred people by squeezing a bit.
The group filed in.
Lv Bai was doing alright, but to these surface humans still scavenging and building shacks, even such creations from hundreds of years ago awed them.
"Find your seat and remember to buckle up."
Lv Bai gave a reminder, then pressed the descent button on the console.
The elevator doors slowly closed, followed by a rapid descent.
Despite Lv Bai’s reminder, perhaps because of recent usage, the elevator’s operation this time was much smoother than last.
Facing such exaggerated descension speed, the Speakers in the elevator felt like they were on a drop tower ride, several burly men couldn’t help but exclaim out loud.
Compared to the elevator ascending, the descent took more time.
But no matter how much time it took, it would eventually end.
As the descent noticeably slowed, Lv Bai unfastened his seatbelt, stood up, and walked to the elevator door.
He didn’t know what awaited him after the doors opened, imagining it wouldn’t be too easy; after all, City Council couldn’t have no precautions.
Without turning back, he told the Speakers in the seats: "I’ve told you everything you need to know; as long as you’re cautious, you shouldn’t face any life-threatening danger."
Ding dong~
The elevator arrival bell rang.
Underground City reached.
As the elevator doors slowly opened, Lv Bai looked at the personnel already filling the hallway and couldn’t help but smile.
"I’ll say I’m just here to buy some stuff, do you believe me?"
