My Antique Mirror Is A Portal To Another World - Chapter 691: Return Home
After traveling for almost an hour, Wu Ruizhan and his small team finally arrived outside the Great General’s mansion.
Seeing that no one was guarding the door, Chi Minghao said in a low voice, "General Wu, something is wrong."
Wu Ruizhan’s expression tensed as he nodded. "You guys wait out here. I will go in and take a look."
"Yes, General Wu."
Dismounting his warhorse, he walked to the closed door and tapped the lion-head decoration a few times.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Wu Ruizhan waited for a moment but didn’t hear anything from inside, so he tapped the lion-head decoration again.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
He waited for a while, but no one opened the door. Feeling uneasy, he pushed it slightly and found it unlocked. Holding his breath, he slowly pushed it wider.
Creak~!
Looking at the deserted front yard before him, Wu Ruizhan stepped past the threshold and entered.
As he walked toward the main hall, he scanned the surroundings. Noticing the thin layer of dust covering the path beneath his feet, his heart sank.
Speeding up, he called out, "Madam! Where are you?"
Wu Ruizhan called several more times, but his wife did not respond. Seeing that the main hall’s door was open, he quickly walked inside, only to be greeted by silence.
Scanning the spacious hall, his eyes flickered. "Wait... where is the jade ornament that was placed here? I remember Madam placed it when we were newly married and never moved it."
After noticing this detail, Wu Ruizhan quickly inspected the main hall. A few minutes later, he left and went straight to the main courtyard.
Along the way, he did not see anyone. Suppressing his anxiety, he hurried forward.
The moment he stepped past the moon gate of the main courtyard, Wu Ruizhan immediately noticed several missing items. Just as his anxiety rose again, a soft, gentle voice came from the side garden.
"Husband?"
The voice carried disbelief and hope.
Hearing this, Wu Ruizhan paused in his tracks and turned toward the sound. Seeing his wife standing on the stone path, his jaw clenched.
Without a word, he strode forward and pulled her into his arms. As he held her tightly, he let out a sigh of relief.
Sensing his slight trembling body, Madam Wu smiled, patted his back gently, and said, "Welcome back, Husband."
Hearing her gentle voice, Wu Ruizhan took a deep breath. After he calmed down, he whispered, "Madam, I missed you so much. Fortunately, you are safe."
Madam Wu chuckled softly. "I missed you, too, Husband."
Wu Ruizhan held her for a long time before reluctantly letting go. Looking at her slightly sunken cheeks and sickly complexion, a pang of pain rose in his heart.
Caressing her cheek, he said, "Madam, you have suffered."
Madam Wu shook her head. "It’s alright."
Now that he had found her, Wu Ruizhan asked, "Madam, where are the others? Why isn’t there a single servant here?"
Madam Wu smiled, though a hint of sadness lingered in her eyes. Holding his hands, she explained, "Husband, everyone fled after the assassination of the previous emperor. Right now, there is only me alone here."
Hearing this, Wu Ruizhan asked worriedly, "Madam, it must have been dangerous at that time. Why didn’t you leave the imperial capital city with the other clan members?"
Madam Wu looked at him lovingly, a trace of teasing in her voice. "If I left, how would you find me?"
Realizing the reason, Wu Ruizhan’s eyes reddened as he lowered his head. "I’m sorry. If I had returned earlier, you wouldn’t have suffered like this."
Knowing his temperament, Madam Wu reached out, touched his cheek, and said with a soft sigh, "Husband, it’s not your fault. Look at me—"
After Wu Ruizhan raised his eyes to look at her, Madam Wu smiled and added, "I’m fine, really. So, husband, don’t blame yourself."
Feeling fortunate to have married such a kind and understanding woman, Wu Ruizhan finally smiled. "Madam, you are so good to me."
Madam Wu chuckled. "Silly. If I’m not good to you, who should I be good to?"
After that, she looked past Wu Ruizhan’s shoulder but saw no one. Looking back at her husband, she curiously asked, "Did you come back alone?"
Hearing this, Wu Ruizhan suddenly remembered Feng Xiyan and the others, who were still waiting outside.
Slapping his forehead, he quickly said, "Madam, Great General Feng and the others are still waiting outside. I will go and bring them in. Could you prepare some drinking water for them?"
Madam Wu nodded. "Of course. Go ahead."
After kissing her cheek, Wu Ruizhan hurried out.
Watching his departing figure, Madam Wu shook her head helplessly before heading to the kitchen to boil water and brew tea.
Meanwhile, outside the main entrance, Bai Hanyun lifted the curtain and muttered, "There doesn’t seem to be anyone inside."
Hearing this, Feng Xiyan replied, "No, there is someone inside."
Bai Hanyun turned to him curiously. "You can sense someone from this far?"
Although Feng Xiyan couldn’t see her, he still turned toward her voice. "Mhm. It’s not difficult for a martial arts practitioner to sense someone’s aura from a distance. The stronger the internal energy, the farther the range."
Listening to his explanation, Bai Hanyun sighed regretfully. "If only I had practiced martial arts. I could fly like you and sense people’s aura. How cool would that be?"
Sensing her regretful tone, Feng Xiyan said, "If you want to learn, I can teach you."
At his words, Bai Hanyun immediately recalled the harsh training of the Feng Army and quickly replied, "No, no, no. Thank you, Feng Xiyan, but I can’t go through that hellish training. I’d rather stay as a weakling."
Feng Xiyan chuckled at her words. "Don’t worry. You have me. I will protect you with my life."
The moment he said that, Bai Hanyun froze. Coming back to her senses, she quickly covered his mouth. "Don’t say things like that. Why would I want your life? You should keep it for yourself."
