My Childhood Friend Turned Yandere in the Apocalypse
Chapter 118: Ch : New Family
The ghosts became much more cooperative after Rin assured them that he was there to assist them. They guided Rin on what he needed to do to appear as a proper gentleman.
Since Rin had been brought up as a wealthy young Master, he was already well-versed in manners and noble etiquette, so it did not take him long to adjust.
Not that it was all thanks to him. His current body’s instincts also helped in helping him adjust.
That evening, Rin dressed up sharply and entered the dining room with his head held high. Everyone immediately looked at him with expressions of annoyance or concern, wondering what he was doing here.
Rin paid the servants no attention and headed towards the table where his parents and siblings were sitting, but his path was blocked before he could sit down and enjoy the meal.
"Hey! Didn’t I inform you beforehand? You and your kind aren’t welcome here. Or maybe you are too dense to recall what I said? Want me to engrave it into your mind?"
The rude little shit bore a resemblance to Rin’s current body so it was easy to make the assumption that they shared the same bloodline. But since Rin did not have the memories of his current body, he could not recall who this person was.
The ghosts proved particularly helpful, and they whispered the answer to Rin.
"He’s your younger brother."
"He’s as vicious and cruel as any other noble. Get rid of him as well. Take him out for us."
The voices were getting louder and louder by the second. It felt a little overwhelming but Rin was used to having someone constantly talking in his ear already. So he managed to block the ghosts out and instead turn his attention to his ’younger brother’.
The said younger brother looked like he wanted to crush Rin beneath his feet. Since he was taller and had more muscle, the threat even felt real.
But Rin held his ground and looked at his ’younger brother’. Usually, people who were used to getting what they wanted easily got flustered when things did not go their way.
And things happened exactly as Rin predicted.
His younger brother faltered as soon as he noticed that he was not able to intimidate Rin and tried to throw hands against Rin. But Rin was a hunter with decent stats.
No matter how powerful an opponent was, as long as they did not have special powers, they were no match for even the weakest hunter.
The punch moved in slow motion and Rin grabbed his younger brother’s wrist before tightening his grip. A pained moan immediately followed his action.
"Hey, let go of me! I said...let go. How dare you touch me, you cursed thing? Father, do something."
The ’father,’ who had been silent until now, suddenly stood up and walked towards them. His presence felt intimidating and Rin had a feeling he was not dealing with a normal human.
Rin remained vigilant, waiting to see what their father would do next. But the older man struck Rin’s wrist lightly, causing him to let go of his younger brother’s wrist.
"I don’t have time for weaklings. Next time, don’t ask me to interfere in childish squabbles, or the result won’t be nice."
The head of the family walked back to his seat calmly and Rin noticed his younger brother shivering in fright. The younger brother looked at Rin with a puzzled expression, wondering why he was not showing any signs of fear.
"Hey loser, if Father turns against me because of you, then I will make sure you regret it for life. So keep out of my sight if you know what’s good for you."
The younger man threatened before he walked towards his seat and sat down. His servants immediately started sucking up to him and Rin ignored it to sit down as well.
His dedicated maid looked stricken. Her gaze shifted between him and his younger brother before she leaned over to speak to him.
"Young master, I know that your younger brother can get frustrated sometimes, but lashing out was not the right thing to do. You should apologize before it’s too late, otherwise I...no, we will be in trouble."
The maid was clearly more worried about herself compared to Rin, but he did not blame her. It was human nature to act out of self-preservation.
Unfortunately, that did little to excuse her behavior.
But the maid was unaware of her situation and continued to try and guilt Rin over his actions. Little did she know, she was being ignored by him.
Finally, the maid fell silent at his father’s booming voice.
"It’s nice to have the whole family present for dinner. When was the last time all of us were gathered here? Was it a year ago? Even Rin dressed himself properly, which is a divine gift in itself."
The last words were said sarcastically but Rin pretended he did not understand the tone behind them and simply smiled. However, the others’ scoffing at him being insulted did not escape his notice.
"Let’s not lower today’s mood with such negative talks. It must be God’s will to see things through. After all, why else would Rin gain consciousness today of all days? It must be because they approve of his match with his fiance."
His mother did not miss a beat when she spoke these words. No one contradicted the lady of the house and the food was quickly served.
Despite the colorful array arranged in front of Rin, it all looked bland and tasteless to him. Still, he reached for the plate nearest to him when a ghost warned him not to take that one because it had been poisoned.
Somehow, it did not surprise him that there was a poisoned dish at the dining table. But it did make him wonder if others knew about it or not.
"People of this house have been trained in poison resistance ever since they were young. So most dishes are mixed with a little bit of poison to maintain that resistance."
"But your weak body cannot take it. So be careful eating anything in this house."
"We cannot have you die before our revenge is complete."
The ghosts sounded concerned but it was not for Rin’s health. They were concerned because he was the only one who could take their revenge for them.
"Don’t worry. I have no intention of collapsing anytime soon. First, I need to see this house get destroyed and fulfill this body’s wish."
