Chapter 227: A Threat?

Damian said nothing to the crying demons beneath him. He simply hovered silently in the skies while the kneeling creatures trembled below like sinners awaiting judgment.

Some were openly sobbing while others buried their faces against the dirt while their shoulders shook uncontrollably. The smell of fear saturated the battlefield.

Yet Damian did not find their reactions strange.

Honestly, it was no different from humans fearing death. They possessed the same desperation, helplessness and instinctive terror that surfaced when life stood inches away from ending.

His glowing violet eyes slowly drifted away from the demons and settled upon Corbin.

His brows narrowed slightly.

The priest had changed again.

The once vibrant purple hair Damian remembered was gone completely, replaced by snow white strands that danced lightly beneath the cold wind. Without the usual glasses covering his face, Damian could finally see the damage done to his eyes properly.

The pupils were gone. Only white remained and it looked like the eyes themselves had been burned hollow.

Yet despite that blindness, the way Corbin stared at him made one thing painfully obvious.

The man could still see and the hatred burning inside those empty white eyes was stronger than ever before.

Damian’s gaze shifted past him calmly. Everywhere he looked, holy power saturated the forest. Then his gaze froze as it fell on Linda.

She stood near other priests, gripping a silver spear tightly while staring upward at him with visibly shaken eyes. Behind her floated another angel.

A feminine one.

Long silver hair flowed behind it like moonlight while two radiant wings spread silently through the night sky. Its beauty looked almost unreal but it’s beauty was incomparable to Damian.

The disdain in its eyes when it looked at humans the same way nobles looked at insects crawling beneath their feet.

[Remember your strength is halved. Shall I recall your clone?]

Damian rolled his eyes faintly.

’Do I need my full strength to deal with these weaklings?’

[Fair point.]

The truth was Damian could feel everything his clone was experiencing despite the vast distance separating them.

The clone had spent the entire day with Clara. Even now they were still tangled together in bed. He could feel her happiness and honestly, Damian had no intention of ruining that beautiful moment over something as insignificant as this.

The forest remained trapped in heavy silence until Corbin finally spoke.

"I was a fool to even consider the possibility that you would be different from your demon counterparts."

His voice echoed coldly through the clearing. But beneath the coldness was amusement.

As usual, Corbin’s personality had completely shifted again. This was the priest Damian once fought beside against Duke Haborym. This was the fanatic and dangerous Corbin.

Damian stared at him silently for several seconds before slowly descending from the skies.

"Is this the part where I’m supposed to explain my intentions to you?" His voice was calm and cold..

He was like a God entertaining lesser beings as his feet never touched the ground. They hovered inches above the forest floor while his body drifted forward slowly with both hands placed behind his back and a thoughtful expression lingering across his face.

The pressure surrounding him intensified naturally with every inch he descended.

Buzz!

Several priests unconsciously tightened their grips around their weapons. Guardian angels spread their wings wider instinctively while holy power gathered around their bodies defensively.

Even Linda’s breathing became uneven. Because Damian looked completely different now.

Not just stronger, different in ways she couldn’t explain. There was something deeply unsettling about the way he carried himself.

Corbin frowned deeply but said nothing. Neither did the others.

For some reason, the moment Damian descended into the clearing, speaking suddenly felt difficult. The atmosphere itself had become oppressive.

"I’ll tell you how this will go."

Damian slowly turned around midair, his violet eyes scanning across every priest and angel surrounding the demons one after another.

"You will make way for my subordinates to pass or everyone here dies." His gaze slowly shifted toward Linda.

"That includes you, love."

Linda’s body stiffened visibly. Even the wind seemed to disappear from the forest. The priests stared at Damian with dark expressions while the demons behind him trembled violently with excitement but dared not make a sound.

The forest remained deathly silent after Damian’s declaration.

"Are you threatening me?" Corbin hissed.

The moment the words left his mouth, fierce golden flames exploded within his white eyes. The fire burned violently behind those empty pupils like divine torches igniting inside hollow sockets.

Holy pressure erupted outward from his body instantly.

Yet despite all this Damian did not react. He simply stared at Corbin calmly with the same detached expression. To Damian, this entire situation felt no different from watching a child bare its teeth at an adult.

The difference between them had already become too vast. The current Corbin was simply too weak to threaten him anymore.

"Don’t overestimate yourself."

Damian’s voice remained calm and indifferent.

"My words can only be considered a threat if there is a chance they may not happen. But in a situation where my words are certain then it is no longer a threat..."

The violet glow within his eyes intensified faintly as he slowly tilted his head while staring directly into Corbin’s burning eyes.

"It is a decree."

Damian calmly floated forward afterward until he stood directly before the kneeling demons, completely shielding them behind his body.

His four massive black wings spread wider slowly, covering part of the forest behind him like darkness swallowing the moonlight itself.

The contrast between him and the holy army before him looked surreal.

"So what will it be?"

Corbin’s face slowly twisted briefly but then broke into a vicious smile. The kind worn by fanatics moments before bloodshed begins.

The flames inside his white eyes intensified violently while holy power surged around the fiery blade in his hand.

"Let’s find out..."

The grin stretching across his face looked almost insane. Damian could only sigh at this human’s decision. He honestly didn’t want to kill Corbin and Linda.

It’s a pity it has to be done now.
