My Magical Girl System
Chapter 81: Crystal Flame Guardian
They pressed deeper into the black crystal cavern, the pulsing light growing stronger with each step. The walls narrowed, then opened into a vast chamber—a natural cathedral carved by no human hand.
At its center stood an altar.
It was ancient, hewn from obsidian, its surface etched with symbols that writhed and shifted when looked at directly. Floating above the altar, a flame danced—cold, blue, and utterly silent. It cast no heat, yet the air around it shimmered with barely contained power.
Sein stopped at the edge of the chamber, her gauntlets flaring brighter in response to the ambient mana. "This looks like a boss room," she said quietly, her green eyes scanning the shadows beyond the altar. "I’ve seen enough of these to recognize the setup."
System: Boss area detected. Threat level: B-rank. Defeat the guardian and claim the artifact. Bonus rewards: Affection Points and Mana Points upon successfully defeating the boss.
Sarah let out a long, weary sigh, her pink transformation flickering as she slumped her shoulders. "This is going to be another exhausting day, isn’t it?" she muttered, her voice dripping with resignation.
Lisa tightened her grip on her mint-green wand, her expression serious despite her nervousness. "We’ve come this far. Let’s just finish it."
Andrey drew his katana, the blade gleaming in the blue firelight. "Everyone, get into position. Sein, you’re our heaviest hitter. Sarah, watch for adds. Lisa, barriers and support. I’ll draw aggro."
Sein cracked her neck, stepping forward. "Yeah. A real fight."
The blue flame flickered.
Then it exploded.
The blue flame coalesced into a massive, hulking figure. Its body was a fusion of black crystal and molten fury—jagged obsidian shards jutted from its shoulders and spine, while veins of blue fire pulsed beneath its cracked, stone-like hide. Its eyes were hollow pits of cold flame, and when it opened its maw, rows of crystalline teeth glowed with the same eerie light.
[Crystal Flame Guardian].
The creature threw back its head and roared—ROOOAAAARRR! The shockwave rattled the crystal walls, sending shards raining down from the ceiling.
Sein winced, covering her ears for a moment before dropping her hands, her gauntlets blazing. "Damn, that’s loud! Sounds like it wants us to shut it up!"
She launched forward, her fist connecting with the boss’s leg. Crimson Impact! Flames erupted on impact, but the Crystal Flame barely budged. Its massive claw swept down—Sein dove aside, rolling back to her feet.
Andrey was already moving. He slid in front of the boss, katana raised, intercepting a second claw strike meant for Sarah. Damage Absorb flared bright red, the energy flooding into his chest. His boots scraped against the crystal floor, but he held. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
"Sarah! Now!" he shouted.
Sarah’s wand blazed. "Heartstorm Cataclysm!" A torrent of pink hearts slammed into the boss’s chest, staggering it. Lisa followed with Starlight Burst – chain mode, green stars ricocheting across its body, leaving glowing weak points.
The Crystal Flame roared again and slammed both fists into the ground. A wave of blue fire erupted outward—an area attack.
Lisa’s eyes widened. "Elysian Sanctuary!" A massive dome of mint-green light enveloped the party. The blue flames splashed against the barrier, sizzling but not penetrating. Inside the sanctuary, healing light washed over them, soothing their burns and restoring stamina.
Andrey’s Damage Absorb was full now—his chest glowed like a furnace. He drew his white-and-gold pistol and channeled Ki into the barrel, layering the stored energy over the bullet.
"Sein! Clear the way!" he yelled.
Sein threw a Crimson Supernova at the boss’s feet, staggering it further. The blast left a burning crater, and the Crystal Flame stumbled, its guard dropping for just a moment.
Andrey fired.
The Ki-infused, damage-absorbed bullet tore through the air, striking the boss directly in its chest right where Lisa’s chains had marked a weak point. The explosion was blinding, a shockwave of red-gold energy that cracked the obsidian floor and sent shards of crystal flying.
The Crystal Flame reeled back, blue ichor dripping from the wound. Its hollow eyes flared brighter.
System: Boss first phase cleared. Entering second phase. Threat level rising.
The boss reared up, its body shifting. Cracks spread across its form, and from within, molten blue fire poured out, reshaping it into something leaner, faster, more aggressive. Its claws elongated. Its movements became jerky, unpredictable.
The Crystal Flame opened its maw and unleashed a torrent of blue flame that swept across the chamber.
Lisa’s sanctuary flickered but held. "It’s even stronger now!" she cried.
Sein wiped soot from her cheek, grinning despite the blood. "Good. I was getting bored."
Andrey reloaded his pistol, eyes fixed on the enraged guardian. "Second phase. Everyone, stay sharp."
The Crystal Flame raised its clawed arms to the ceiling, and from the crystal above, molten blue fire rained down in a relentless shower. Droplets sizzled where they struck the ground, melting through stone and leaving glowing craters.
"Rainfire!" Lisa gasped, her wand shooting up. "Prismatic Fortress!" A multi-layered dome of mint-green light expanded around the party, catching the falling flames. Each impact cracked a layer, but Lisa poured mana into maintaining it, sweat beading on her forehead.
Sein tried to dash forward, but the Crystal Flame was faster now—its movements were jerky, unpredictable, a blur of shadow and blue fire. She swung at its leg, but it sidestepped and backhanded her across the chamber. She crashed into a crystal pillar, coughing.
"Damn it... it’s too fast!"
Sarah aimed her wand, firing Heartstorm Cataclysm at the boss’s chest. The pink hearts exploded against its molten hide, but the creature barely flinched. Its hollow eyes fixed on Lisa—the one maintaining the barrier.
It lunged.
Andrey was already moving. He slid between the boss and Lisa, katana raised to block. The Crystal Flame’s claws raked across his blade and into his shoulder. Damage Absorb flared—red, then white-hot—overloading. The stored energy burst out uncontrollably, sending Andrey flying backward. He hit the ground hard, blood blooming from his shoulder and chest.
"ANDREY!" Lisa screamed.
Andrey groaned, pushing himself up. His regeneration kicked in—the bleeding slowed, the wounds began to knit, but he was weak. His vision swam.
The Crystal Flame turned back toward Lisa, raising both claws for a killing blow.
Sein’s eyes blazed. "Ember’s Blessing!" A wave of warm, crimson-gold light washed over her body—and over Andrey and Lisa too. Healing flames licked at their wounds, restoring strength. "Refreshing Breeze!" Lisa added, her wand glowing mint-green as she channeled speed-enhancing energy directly into Sein.
Sein’s body hummed with power. "Now I can keep up."
She launched herself at the boss with precision. Her gauntleted fists struck its joints, its elbows, the cracks in its crystalline hide. Each hit staggered it, pushed it back.
"Keep it busy!" Sarah shouted. She raised her wand high, pink light gathering into a storm above her head. The chamber trembled. Crystal shards rattled.
The Crystal Flame sensed the buildup. It tried to turn toward Sarah, but Sein drove her fist into its knee, forcing it to stagger.
"Love’s... APOCALYPSE!"
The column of pink energy slammed down from the ceiling, engulfing the Crystal Flame Guardian. The creature roared, its molten body cracking under the pressure. Blue ichor sprayed. Crystalline shards exploded outward.
When the light faded, the Crystal Flame stood—barely. Its body was fractured, its blue flames flickering like a dying candle. But it still stood.
Andrey pushed himself to his feet, pistol in one hand, katana in the other. "Finish it."
Sein nodded. Sarah’s wand glowed one last time. Lisa reinforced her barrier.
