Chapter 2642: Chapter 881: Three-Day Miracle · Day One (Part 3)

The other soldiers of the hunting platoon were invigorated by the lieutenant’s outstanding performance, their spirits ignited with a fire that only made their subsequent hunts more ferocious.

But the Wolf People had already noticed the trouble this active hunting platoon was causing them. With their constant sniping, they prevented the perfect coordination of quality and quantity between the Wolf People and Gnolls, and now a Military Governor had been taken down, making it impossible for the Grand Marshal overseeing the battle from behind to tolerate any longer. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

Under its direct orders, a hundred-member unit of Dogheaded Engineers, led by a hunting elector, set out along the previous tunnel. Just as Mia locked onto the second Silver Jackal Barbarian vanguard, her outstanding hunting instincts alerted her to the danger, prompting Mia to immediately turn her gun around to aim behind.

In the previously dug tunnel by the Gnolls, more chaotic sounds erupted, accompanied by blood-colored arcs flickering, letting that tall and indifferent hunting elector leap out like a phantom.

As it charged out, it immediately saw the gun barrel pointed at it, and at less than fifteen meters away, the Cannibal Demon’s Hammer opened fire, the terrifying penetration of the Burning Gold Bullet hitting the elector’s chest.

Although it had a remote immunity granted by the Master of Hunting, this wasn’t complete immunity from long-range damage. The specially made sniping bullet didn’t kill it but sent it tumbling as if struck by a heavy punch to the chest.

"To arms!"

Mia shouted, and the hunters immediately picked up the Blood Vulture Claws, firing towards the rear, suppressing the continuous stream of Armed Gnolls charging out from the tunnel. The lieutenant was too pressed for time to reload and, after emptying the Blood Vulture Claw’s magazine, she grabbed a hunting rifle, affixed a bayonet, and strode forward, piercing right through the ugly gnoll’s skull in front of her.

But the explosives strapped to the latter’s claws and body had already been lit, and the burning fuse reached its end in the moment Mia’s pupils widened, a figure lunged from the side, knocking her away.

"Boom"

The violent explosion surged, devouring everything around it, followed by a series of blasts, the connected Gnolls self-detonating like a wall of fire sweeping across this high ground.

As Lieutenant Mia coughed, clutching her chest, crawling up, the hunting platoon’s position before her had fallen silent, and in front of her, the hunting elector who bore the brunt of the massive explosions was left with only one arm, but it was pulling its bone knife out of Papillon’s back.

Irritated by its severely burned face, it turned with the most horrific nightmare expression, eyeing Lieutenant Mia struggling to pull out the hunting knife.

On this smoky and death-ridden high ground, amidst the incessant screaming and killing sounds seemingly impossible to quiet down at the front, one person and one werewolf stared at each other.

They were probably the last alive here.

"Ack"

Also burned, Mia spat a mouthful of blood to the side, a fragment lodged in her chest making breathing difficult. She knew she was doomed, even if she killed the Wolf Person she wouldn’t survive.

But in her final moments, she did not choose to flee but reached out to grasp the insignia adorned with three blood-red gold stars on her chest. This item seemed to grant her strength, driving her to charge toward the hunting elector, who was also at the end of its strength but still grinned fiercely while advancing, yet was unexpectedly tackled by a figure from behind.

It was Norse!

He was in terrible shape, both legs blown off, his once handsome face covered in scars, but at this moment he gritted his teeth, lunged at the hunting elector’s back, harnessing its only remaining arm to allow Mia, rushing through the smoke, to thrust the sharp hunting knife into the Wolf Person’s heart, violently shredding and pulling it out, aiming for its second heart.

How to kill a Wolf Person, this was the first lesson for hunters after enlisting.

Even hunting electors cannot survive with both hearts destroyed, but this fierce figure still drove its grotesque bone knife into Lieutenant Mia’s waist and abdomen before death, achieving mutual destruction.

In the next second, the three collapsed synchronously, with Mia straining to crawl over to grasp Norse, who barely clung to his last breath.

"Ha, cough, cough, my first blood star... I... I’m close to catching up to you..."

Norse coughed blood, striving to smile as he told Mia:

"I am... the best... right?"

"You certainly are!"

Mia felt life steadily slipping away from her like a deflated balloon, dizziness overwhelming her. In her last moments, she said to Norse:

"We three are the best hunters, we didn’t disgrace the children of Fink Street..."

"Live, Mia."

Norse’s voice weakened as he said:

"They all say Transylvania has no future, but I don’t believe it... live! Look for me and Papillon..."

Mia could no longer respond, as the lieutenant had closed her eyes.

On this lifeless high ground, not a single person could stand, until a pair of giant blood wings unfurled through the haze, and Kudell, the People’s Guard, gazed solemnly at the battlefield, unable to help but marvel at the hunters’ fierceness upon seeing the hunting elector’s body.

Is this really something mortals can achieve?

No one responded to Kudell, the People’s Guard sighed, preparing to leave but the next second his vampiric senses revealed where that last trace of life stemmed from.

With a swoosh, Kudell virtually teleported beside Lieutenant Mia, observing the frail soldier on her path to the dead but still saved, the People’s Guard knew only one way to rescue her.

But that meant breaking the rule he set for himself.

Kudell hesitated briefly, he glanced at the slain hunting elector. Accomplishing such a miracle with a mortal body, weren’t these hunters worthy of him breaking that ridiculous rule?

He had been a vampire for a hundred years.

He was merely deceiving himself, this curse’s power can be used for good.

So he reached out, placing his hand on Mia’s severely burned forehead, employing vampiric secret technique, asking:

"Brave hunter, do you wish to embark on another life with the vampiric curse?"

"I... I want to live..."

The weak response conveyed intense resolve, Kudell’s fangs bared, asking before the initial embrace:

"Why? Is there something that compels you to forsake the soul’s purity to survive?"

"I want to see... I want to witness the future... the future led by Sir Murphy in Transylvania... I want to live... I promised them..."
